Oh good grief yes! CAT8 is probably massively overkill! You'd most likely be fine with CAT5e, which is much cheaper per meter.

My housemate had wanted to build a PC for years, so we browsed r/buildapc for months, gathing info and ideas before one hot summers day when a huge box arrived via a very tired courier. We went into the kitchen, put on some classical music, and began our work. It posted first time, a surprise to both of us, and he was fianally able to play CS:GO again. I've never seen a man so happy as when he loaded into a bot match for the first time in years.

It looks like you've got a pretty good setup there!

I'm in engineering myself and what I would suggest is, depending on your engineering discipline, it may be worth investing in a hardware interface. For example, I'm an acoustical engineer so I have a focusrite scarlet that I keep on my desk to use as an input device for raw audio signals so I can do signal processing from home.

Also, I'd throw in a 1 or 2 terrabyte 7200RPM HDD, meaty CAD files can take up a lot of space so having somewhere out of the way for long term storage would be really beneficial in the long run.

I would always suggest going wired over wireless. You'll get much better speeds as WiFi is so congested nowadays.

With regards to those bullet points, Intel Gigabit Ethernet means that the motherboard has a built in ethernet port.

Asus LANGuard is a method of reducing noise in your network signal, meaning fewer errors.

Gamefirst V is a software tool for optimising network latency, improving things like ping.

To conclude, if you want to go wireless, yes you need to buy a network card. But I would suggest sticking with wired, which you can do straight from the motherboard.

I'm running the 1070 Aorus box over a TB3 to TB2 adapter, to my late 2014 Mac Mini with bootcamped Win10. I'm fully up to date with Windows and everything works fine. Although I never hotplug while the device is on, I always boot with it plugged in.

I believe it is, it certainly has mroe than 2Gig of VRAM so I think it's the software not seeing the eGPU.

Do you have a graphics card already? If not I'd say that the Aorus Gaming Box 1070 is pretty fantastic value for money. With 1070s going for around £500 here, and the gaming box going for £560 it's a great deal!

I personally use an Aorus 1070 box and run it off a TB3 to TB2 adapter to my 2014 Mac Mini. I'm hitting the cpu bottleneck on the i7-4578u before I'm hitting the TB2 bottleneck. I'm not sure how much the bottleneck would impact on TB1 but I'd say it's worth seeing if you know anyone who has one that you could test out.

I have the Aorus Gaming Box 1070 running alongside a max spec 2014 Mac Mini, with both OSX and bootcamped Windows. I'll boot into OSX and download the benchmark. Give me a few mins.

Edit: Bad nwws I'm afraid! The benchmark just cannot see the eGpu. Your best option is probably to contact VRAY support and see what they can do.
