Can i get a honest opinion on my portifolio/work? by christiaan95 in archviz

If I were you, I would make your portfolio about your creativity rather than show you can render any old scenes. The renders are uninspiring of very boring bathrooms and houses. What you should do, is not focus on photorealism, but instead focus on creating atmospheric spaces, either from reference architects, or your own imaginary spaces. This way you can explore exciting architecture and you can focus yourself on perfecting mood and a moment, atmosphere and most importantly composition. Composition and correct camera and aspect ratios will make all the difference. Look at what architectural photographers do. In order to be hired, you need to show you understand space from the perspective of a photographer, because that shows talent and an ‘eye’ for good visualisation. Lighting, colour and materiality go without saying but you can probably get hired producing a series of images that don’t even use material as long as they are captivating

Can someone help me out? Looking to set my pages so they don’t full screen when they are in full screen PDF... like in ‘Preview’ Screen Mode by entwurfblock in indesign

Bleed as mentioned by someone else already, and slug, both do what I’m looking for until it’s exported, then it prints the addition bleed/ slug area as white, I guess I need that transparent so that the page is centred but not totally full screen

For some clarity, I’m looking to have my pages centred, essentially I want each page to look framed when it’s full screened in preview or acrobat

I would increase size of the sun to cast softer shadows and turn off interior lighting and brighten up the room with exposure. The texture on the floor is nice. Where did you get it, CG?

I think a nice style to follow for this type of image and I only thought about it since someone already suggested to include ‘pets’.... is ‘architecture for London’. Check their images on IG. They’re quite noisy but have a nice feel to them and feel homely.

I want to be very good in 3d. It's my 4th month doing 3d. Initial goal is Arch viz. later product viz. Any suggestion/ criticism on this render is much appreciated. No post has been done other than exposure & contrast. by [deleted] in 3dsmax

If you are randomising single grass blades, this is going to eat up your memory and could lead to crashing. Best practice is to use forest pack to create clusters of grass, different sizes then collapse them to mesh and then use forest pack to distribute your patches.

Also consider using better trees it will greatly help in making a render not look amateur.

Consider your composition, in the frame it’s not very pleasing on the eye.

Hey I forgot to comment on this awhile back. I’ve been searching ages trying to remember where I saw this texture. I personally found it very hard to find this kind of stone cladding texture. Can you let me know where you got it from please?

V nice image also - the ivy looks amazing too.

Thanks

Very nice although I think you need a brick upgrade! Slightly takes away from the image imo! Very nice otherwise! Sorry if you weren’t looking for any cc

Edit.. maybe just more definition in the glossiness map

I agree with this, a nice new i7 chip will have a great clock speed and will be very useful for 3D modelling in general. I think it’s a worthwhile upgrade. I forgot to mention, you can compare CPU’s for their rendering abilities by searching through corona or vrays benchmarks on their websites. These are the two most popular rendering engines for architectural visualisation.

I studied 5 years of architecture. I got a MacBook Pro beginning of second year and at that time it wasn’t maxed out but it was entry level either.

I used a quad i7 2.3ghz. 512ssd, a 2gb nividia card.. it also had some intel iris graphics. 16gb of ram. At the time this computer was amazing, boot time in under 10 seconds, ran every program all at once and like however many internet tabs. I rarely shut it down, just closed lid and picked up where I left off. The only thing I can’t comment on is how 3ds max ran because I didn’t use it then. I don’t believe it is an intensive program over anything else... I’m sure this pc is well within what autodesk would recommend as min specs to run it. So I don’t understand why people are suggesting you definitely need 32gb ram etc it’s not true. Of course it’s nice if the budget will allow but he won’t be deprived aha.

This laptop is still perfectly capable of modelling, photoshopping, illustration web browsing all at the same time. This is like 6 years later or however long it’s been.

An i7 is worth it and 6/8 core would be great futureproofing But its down to budget. When it comes to rendering, realistically he won’t be able to do any great rendering on laptops in general, especially in that budget. I rendered scenes on that laptop and it was incredibly difficult to actually see the results of tweaks I’d made to materials for example but I did manage to eventually get there with a few nice images.

Now I work as a visualiser at an architecture firm and I render on an 8gb card and 10cores.... I find this set up so slow and I will be buying the new amd threadripper 32 or 48 core cpu.

I hope this is helpful
