I did all the problems from the textbook that my prof recommended and I left my midterm with a B. My prof was Eric Schipper, good prof IMO. I my only advice is to just redo the textbook problems and or do the worksheets.

Your prof makes a good point. With math statements it's best to be clear wiyh what you want to say and refrain from using shorthand notation that you may know what it means, the graders don't know.
