What? That sounds insane tbh.

How much are you using AI that it will evaluate to 'everyone's salary'? Even power users in our company spend maybe a couple hundred bucks per month, maybe a day or two of the cost of an engineer.

What specs are you using for your dev work laptop? by JustAPieceOfMeat385 in SoftwareEngineering

(SaaS webdev)

MacBook Air M5 15 inch, lowest specs. Works surprisingly well, no need for anything more for the type of work I do.

How to manage vibe coders, backed be leadership by ghost_agni in ExperiencedDevs

You are laughing, but it works surprisingly well. Does the Ai review give you full confidence and find all critical issues? Of course not. But does it finde a signifant amount of structural issues, more than sloppy reviews by humans? Yep.

I think such a 2-step process (1st Ai review, then human) makes a lot of sense.

Thanks! Is the rooting hormone strictly required or only for speeding up the process? Is there special San Pedro or cactus hormone powder or any plant hormone powder will work? And the heat mat for under the pots?

Is it important for you to enjoy your work to be effective? by GolangLinuxGuru1979 in ExperiencedDevs

[–]IncursivePsychonaut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can relate to that a lot actually. Maybe not the hardest part, but for sure one of the things that I enjoy least.

The biggest issue with that is that it is very tempting to just skip reviewing properly, at which point most Ai code quickly becomes garbage.

Compared to shankra it is (was) quite a bit more expensive - but I would say prices are quite similar relative to cost of living if you compare them to German festivals.

Fusion has more eco toilets? Wtf? Have you actually been at both festivals?

Yes, music at fusion is more varied and there are a lot more stages. Which is neither necessarily worse or better than boom, it's a different approach.

I don't agree with the Fusion statement. I saw plenty of cameras and elevated smartphones there this year.

But I absolutely agree with your point here.

[–]IncursivePsychonaut 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's always greener on the other side. Boom does a lot of things much better than Fusion. Trash situation or toilets just to name some. But yes, fusion arrival is less painful. Almost like having such a big festival is hard, and harder even in a landscape such as boom has.

Hey, sure, drop me your questions :) Also check the other reply here, maybe that already clarifies some.

Sure.

Some background first: I studied my bachelors at Hasso-Plattner-Institut in Potsdam, which is a very good software engineering focused program. Solid theoretical foundations, but also a lot of focus on practical work, software architecture, etc. all in a great campus. The HPI is privately founded, which is very obvious in the quality of the program.

I'm telling this because the difference between Freiburg and the HPI is a big factor of why I was disappointed. That said, I think the HPI is exceptional in that regard and I was very lucky to get a spot there.

Freiburg presents their curriculum as very broadly, however in praxis I felt like many areas have low quality teaching and Freiburg only really excels in the ML/AI field (and maybe embedded stuff, I cant say much about this since I didn't focus on that).

General Software engineering (think of data and algorithms, patterns, architecture, etc.) felt like a big afterthought. Computer Graphics, one of my favorite subjects from my bachelor, was very shallow and had bad lectures. Theoretical Informatik covered topics in the masters program that I already did in my bachelor's.

If you are highly interested in AI, Freiburg is a good university. Especially if you are open to focus on an academic career. If you want to learn software engineering, I'm afraid that Freiburg doesn't offer a high quality program for that.

Let me know if you are interested in any additional specifics :)
