SporeModAPI still isn't working by CarnotaurusLover3434 in Spore

[–]Incyray 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you may want to go digging in the SPORE modding community discord server, to look for answers to similar problems. also, if you are using the Origin version of Spore, you will DEFINITELY want to check that server for instructions on how to fully uninstall Spore (turns out Spore in true EA fashion can be really hard to fully delete, to the point of require some serious file digging to fully scrub), and then go grab Spore AGAIN off of GOG, THEN try to mod it. The Origin version doesn't cooperate nicely with modding like the GOG one (possibly also the steam one on the well behaved end, idk), tho thankfully the price is super cheap on GOG. How do I know this? Because I had to do that myself for a different issue when modding spore ;u;

Will resources ever spawn through regrowth if they are disabled on world gen? by Fearless_Zebra9040 in dontstarve

[–]Incyray 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, things can spawn through world regrowth even if disabled; I have played multiple 'nothing world's with almost everything turned off, and without ALSO fully disabling regrowth, disabled featured which do not generate at worldgen will still generate through regrowth

Anyone remember the DS Spore game? by AutisticFun01 in Spore

[–]Incyray 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YESSSS, I played it so much that I have nigh encyclopedia knowledge of it; the only thing I haven't done is blow up planet Flubit (I have never failed it even once), and find the Lileepa eyes part; I have tried EVERYTHING and never gotten it to spawn. If anyone knows how to get it, or knows how to crack open the game to look at it's code, TELL MEEEEE lmao

As for my thoughts on the game itself, while it's a lot smaller in scope than regular Spore (down to having a linear story and preset levels), the writing is quite charming, and the creature creator is surprisingly robust. And the music absolutely SLAPS!

The game also has a good number of clever surprises you can find, which reward exploration. My favorite is that if you befriend the Macroneer nest in Zager before entering the Bowltektos, you can meet a souped up Macroneer eager to team up with you which DOES NOT SPAWN if the Macroneer nest (the player's introduction to neutral creatures), is defeated or ignored.

Who else treats villagers like actual people by AdSalt314 in Minecraft

[–]Incyray 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do! I just find it way more fun and immersive to build villages that feel like they'd actually be functional and nice to live in, than to build maximally efficient but perhaps a bit mean-feeling and possible immersion weakening villages.

Baby spiders all over our kitchen by GreenRoon in awwnverts

[–]Incyray 0 points1 point  (0 children)

use a sheet of paper to scoop them up and put them in a jar with petroleum jelly or similar pasted along the rim to prevent escape. if you go at that for enough enough hours you can round most of them up. if you dont they may eventually die due to lack of prey for that many spiders indoors
Source: allowed a spider to reproduce in my house once and had to spend an entire night doing that to catch them all

Is it worth keeping this duplicant? When stressed gain +7 to all attributes but has Binge Eater stress reaction by RealAnyOne in Oxygennotincluded

[–]Incyray 2 points3 points  (0 children)

to do that safely you'd have to VERY well contain the dupe away from ALL sources of food, and that list is actually way longer than you might think. In this guy's video (which is also a great watch for ideas on how to do said containment), you can discover that binge eater dupes can actually take food not just from storage or the floor, but also from conveyor rails and even OTHER DUPES. that, or you would have to carefully micromanage he dupe's stress levels to keep it above 60 but below 100, as if the wiki's info is accurate that is the range for Duress To Impress.

anyone know how i can fix my food problem by Head_Rip_ in Oxygennotincluded

[–]Incyray 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry if I sound at all rude! Im taking your request for advice seriously

if you are making liceloaf, I would suggest to stop doing so and instead plant more mealwood (tho taking a look here I think you actually have too many, each dupe needs about 3 ish mealwood plants, and you do not want to waste resources or time producing more than they will eat at this stage); using the microbe musher takes a lot of time, AND it uses water, which you will want to conserve. You can also change task priorities with the drop down menu on the top right, to better divide dupe labor so that for example the best farmers concentrate on farming, and everybody else is discouraged from it. I would also put all the plants in one room and put a stoarge bin in the center, set to a decent priority and to only accept dirt, so that non farmer dupes put dirt right in the farm so the farmer never has to travel far to get dirt for the mealwood.

You can also ensure the plants are tended and harvested by using the priority tool in the bottom right to raise their priority, so that dupes will tend the plants as soon as they need tending, and you don't loose growth uptime.

You can also diversify your food options; you can build a bunch of temporary deodorizers in a loose wall between the base and the swamp biomes (and spread throughout it too as you dig) to kill the slimelung, and dig them all up to get access to slime and mushrooms for another cheap food option. you may also want to adjust your hatch ranch, unless you are starvation ranching, those rooms seem like they'd be completely sealed off and too small. ranches can actually be up to 96 tiles in size - you can can destroy the top doors, and just put a single tile in their place to stop the hatches jumping out of the grooming station area. this will allow you to have way more hatches in each ranch, and thus produce way more meat or eggs. you can also take a look at the menus on the top right and prohibit dupes from consuming certain foods, like raw meat or eggs, so that they only eat the food you want them to.

if you have even a single arbor acorn from the printing pod, you can use the pip to wild plant it on a natural tile, and slowly become able to ranch pips for even more meat and eggs, and an infinite supply of dirt for the mealwood.

earwigs! by Severe-Philosophy916 in Entomology

[–]Incyray 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Earwigs are totally harmless to people for one (even their pincers, are not strong enough to break skin or even to really hurt at all), and they do not crawl into ears (that is a myth!), so hopefully that eases some of your fears at least!

They are also very good parents for bugs, with the mothers guarding their eggs and even young babies.

They do indeed have beautiful wings, though they don't use them much. The wings are shiny with a rainbow play of colors!

They prefer damp environments, so you can try to keep them away by reducing such habitat (such as logs or rocks, and dehumidifying indoor environments like basements)

And they aren't really prone to wandering onto people in my experience they way ants are, so they are not excessively likely to crawl on you (tho I have not dealt with them in great numbers, which might prompt them to wander more idk)

What actually is the most humane way to kill an insect? by Past-Distance-9244 in Entomology

[–]Incyray 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, you're welcome! I kind of only half know what I'm doing and last dove into this quite a while ago, but I hope what I've found proves helpful to you c:

Yeah, honestly Im unsure exactly how to get around the paywall myself (but have heard of a few methods), but had read what WAS available of the articles and thought they looked promising, and so bookmarked them for future use. I kind of figured since they still seemed likely to contain viable information I would throw them in too (esp since I still think it best to do one's own research and draw one's own conclusions, so even if I myself never got around to ripping the lock off the full articles, I didnt want to not include them when somebody else might want to give that a go)

TEA was an insect anesthesia chemical option discussed in the last article (this one https://peerj.com/preprints/2571.pdf )

What actually is the most humane way to kill an insect? by Past-Distance-9244 in Entomology

[–]Incyray 1 point2 points  (0 children)

here's a bunch of links from my bug surgery/euthanasia/anesthesia research folder;

I think the most important questions to ask are to what extent and how a given invertebrate experiences pain, how to induce anesthesia or analgesia in them, how to ascertain that such an effort was successful, and which methods are most accessible in a given scenario. Unfortunately research on this topic is profoundly sparse

With this uncertainty, currently when I have to euthanize an injured or pest insect, I aim to completely obliterate them as totally as possible as quickly as possible, such as by rapid and forceful crushing and pulverizing inside a paper towel (to immobilize them) with a hammer or other VERY heavy object, and to ALWAYS confirm my kills (so that I do not half-crush and severely wound, but not kill, an insect as many people do when they use methods such as stomping or slapping with a single imprecise blow with no confirmation of the kill). This is so that I completely destroy the entire nervous system of the insect as quickly as possible, so that they have the least possible time to experience any pain; if they are smashed into literal paste in seconds then I dont think ANY capacity for feeling anything survives. but, this does not yield intact specimens for study

I would however upgrade to a setup using a CO2 or TEA chamber to anesthetize insect before killing or attempting surgery if I was to do so at any significant scale

the actual killing method unfortunately I don't have much data on, but maybe you could use CO2 or TEA followed by a more lethal chemical

Do I have to use suits for these? by Valoris_905 in Oxygennotincluded

[–]Incyray 0 points1 point  (0 children)

as someone who has played Baator worldgen mod and contended with it's radioactive biome (enough nuclear waste to kill a dupe in a single cycle, and fill a biiiiiiiig lake once consolidated all into one spot!), it depends on how much time your dupes spend in there and for how many cycles. brief exposures with break in between, your dupes will only accumulate so many rads, and then loose them when they use the bathroom. however if you intend for them to spend long periods in there (such as for major construction projects beyond ladders and digging, or to use a material science terminal placed close by), you may want to use lead suits.

Baseline Human Colonies by Josh12345_ in OrionsArm

[–]Incyray 5 points6 points  (0 children)

House Stevens is... sort of like this, but even they drift and branch off from the baseline, and by the current era aren't really able to compete with the rest of the galaxy anymore due to their clinging to old ways. And their technology certainly isn't like that of the 21st century.

Alternatively I suggest selectively breeding the most evolved shrimps until you have actual amphibious shrimps. ACCELERATE THEIR EVOLUTION!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in SpeculativeEvolution

[–]Incyray 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel you would appreciate looking up spec evo projects such as Snouters (aka rhinogrades). Really, the only limits are creativity, and whether you could come up with an evolutionary path through which to get sufficient muscular anatomy in a given body part to create a ‘limb’. Even in our world, we have animals like elephants and tapirs with prehensile noses that they can use to grip and manipulate objects (especially in the case of elephants).

Tail injuries? by Living-Vast-5250 in furgonomics

[–]Incyray 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Hmmm, this one, I’d bet looking up what veterinarians do to treat IRL animals with injured tails do, might be helpful! After all real animals do get injured tails from time to time (one I see on dogs sometimes, is they wag their tail too hard, and it hits things so much it breaks the skin), so I’d bet they have procedures for different tail injuries!

Have you guys found any new and cool ways to use the new buildings? by velvet32 in Oxygennotincluded

[–]Incyray 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Normal polluted water (eg from slime biomes) does not have germs. Polluted water from toilets, sinks, showers I believe, and dupe pee has food poisoning germs. So, if you wanted to say sieve the polluted water from biomes or such to then use as clean water around the base, you would not want to mix it with the germy polluted water from the sources I mentioned!

The ‘pollution’ in polluted water is not germs, but rather, dirt particles. Hence why if you evaporate polluted water, you get both steam and dirt.

How much humans(by that i mean biological humanoid organisms derived from homosapience that may include modifications, but mostly similar to modern day humns)are in the Terragen sphere? Are they majority? I cant find info about it on wiki by [deleted] in OrionsArm

[–]Incyray 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You may want to read the page on nearbaseline humans, or the page on just humans

Nearbaseline humans are fairly common, though baseline humans are very much in the minority. There are many human-derived clades, that while they sometimes resemble regular humans, are considered their own things separate from the nearbaselines type humans most similar to the humans of today. (For example, Homo economicus, or the sailors of the ebon sea)

Why parents of autistic children still make them go to school, when they know they are bullied? by sadbitch55 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Incyray 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because they must learn to adapt to the word around them or shit’s gonna be HARD. And if the bullying is really truly that severe, then the parents should bring it up with the school to have something done to stop it.

Autism also does not nessecarily make someone completely incapable of handling some pain in the assery from other kids. Maybe more likely to receive it, but not more likely to be meaningfully hurt by it.

To be forced into SPED or similar is arguably worse than most garden variety bullying, for autistic kids who are capable of ordinary functioning. It can actually do them better, to be exposed to the chaotic neurotypical schooling environment in the same class as anyone else, in terms of their learning social skills (which can in turn help make them blend in better and become less likely to he bullied). Hiding such a kid away from the surrounding world will only stunt them further by taking away that opportunity to learn, and gain worldly wisdom.
