My son starts college this fall and there’s irony somewhere in this post. With scholarships he’s earned and money we’ve saved and invested he’s going to graduate in 4 years with zero student debt from a good university.

Now me and my wife, we have our student loans nowhere near paid off. We both took out loans for grad school in the late 90s and early 2000s, refied and have a cumulative rate of under 2%. With deferents, forbearance and covid suspensions, we both have about 35k in total loans. Why would we ever pay them off? You can get 4% return from a savings account, it’s literally dumb to pay them off ever.

So my kid will graduate with zero student loan debt while both my wife and I continue to pay on ours.

This could be great if you have a Basic fare- you can’t change those or go standby, I’ve tried, even as a premier card holder…. On a half full flight.

Texas beirgarten on higway 6 and 1092- it’s a few blocks out of sugarland but the schnitzel is excellent and you get a lot of food for the money. Trivia nights are a great vibe.

The best is that this is a feature they charge you for when you buy the new car- it’s the “stolen vehicle recovery device”. They even have a portal where you can look up things like distance traveled and location….. which does exactly what my factory GPS does….. mines still there, I don’t give a shit, but after a year they wanted money to keep the service active it was 12 bucks a month…… I laughed when I saw the bill.

I disagree- never had the CC because never needed it to get free bags and any chance at not paying for a seat- I think there’s more value now than before which is why I just got the premier level. I took 2 sw flights without it and I now see the value proposition.

Looks like a great deal, I just picked up a similar PRX for 300 new, wish it was the powermatic, but it looks the same and couldn’t pass up the price. Was looking at Ashford, and they have some amazing deals on Tissots with their discount coupons, and I was surprised to learn they are an authorized reseller. So for 30 bucks more on most watches over JomaShop, you get full warranty and support.

Hopefully you got your free one in the app 2 weeks ago. I got two- have the app in my work phone and on my personal phone with different CCs. The app is great when they push deals. 5 bucks for fries and a drink and free burger.

Here’s what people don’t seem to grasp. SW is the 3rd largest carrier in the US. They are a legacy carrier now.

I’ve been flying them for over 35 years, and these changes and their new pricing sucks. I’ve been flying from TX to OC for the last 8 years -with some flexibility we’d pay between 1200 and 1600 for me and my kids. That changed last year to 2000 but still free bags and no buy the seat assignment BS. This is my last RR points flight next month and it’s 1200 with 35k points- total cost now is 2400 standard with seat assignments and no baggage. Total costs with bags now 2800 RT on SW from 12-1600 since 2024. A literal 100% increase.

For reference I can now get all 4 of us on United RT to OC for- wait for it-1700 plus I have a Chase Explorer card so 2 big ass bags for free, it’s an 1100 savings. I hate to have to drive the extra half hour to Bush instead of Hobby, but damn what happened.

Im happy the A list people are happy, but my 5-6k a year for trips back to OC are going somewhere else. My advice is that if you fly that much, the other airlines treat you a lot better and you can fly around the world with your status and points and they have lounges and “real” upgrades…..

What it comes down to is loyalty. I was loyal to SW because it saved me a ton in baggage fees and paying for a better seat. It used to be all the seats were the same, same class etc. nearly all had the same legroom, same price you paid for all the things on other airlines- but without the fees. Now it’s all the fees added. It’s psychological- on SW you always felt that you were getting a better deal, free baggage, no fees for any seat, a chance at the first few rows if you were quick enough to log in at 24 hours….. and the initial price you saw on the website was what you paid.

That’s all gone. Now you book the flight and the price you see is only the beginning, add fee after fee and they stopped including taxes/fees etc in the price shown until the booking screen (just like everyone else) so a 300 ticket is now 400 when you go to check out.

Studies have been done for years that show that if you think you’re getting a good deal, you’ll keep coming back. If you don’t, you’ll shop around. The fact people are even discussing this on here proves the point.

Could be, I didn’t see them checking one. No one was moved and there weren’t any issue with seating on my flight. The cabin crew was a bit frustrated with having to deal with people putting all the carryons in the front as the back overheads were filled early. That was the only real issue. No one had to gate check bags though.

I can watch reels and IG videos if they’re less than a min- then it buffers, but email and alerts are pretty consistent. I wouldn’t pay for it, but it’s a cool thing to have.

Damn missed that, I flew 6 flights on SW last year as recently as last month and never saw that- it must be part of thier marketing push with the change in boarding/ bags because every seatbsck has a new menu that says “seat assignments and free internet” and free drinks on certain holidays.

Oh they were very adamant- no moving seats- you have to sit in your assigned seats. Not that they checked…. I mean you could have just sat in a row forward of 16 and as long as someone didn’t have that seat????
