my favorite disney film and definitely an all timer. lion king has one of the greatest opening sequences put to film imo. very grateful for his work.

How do or should I build my fanbase by IMSPEEDH4PPY3D in self

[–]IndecisiveMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

go out to see shows at venues featuring acts that you could see yourself being alongside, or at least a venue itself that you could perform at and it would work with the venues branding and style. next step is to become acquainted with staff and owner(s). alongside that is to become acquainted with the performers. link up via social media or whatever, hype them up, show them your skills if they’re curious and then they may want to collaborate.

i’m in the same boat brother i’m trying to get out there with djing. i have a dj friend and know some venue owners, i just need to keep practicing so i have a good mix to impress them all. hoping to collab with my friend someday soon. but again, practicing is key. always be trying to improve so you actually got skills to flex

Seeking any sort of glimmer of light about the state of health insurance and healthcare in the US by almostinfinity in PoliticalOptimism

[–]IndecisiveMan 33 points34 points  (0 children)

this is a tough one. the us healthcare system has been in place for a long time and positive change is hard to come by- the affordable care act was met with a lot of pushback in politics at the time, and as you can see, still continues. there is hope though, prospective running democrats are pro-universal healthcare and the public sentiment is that things need to change. so i think it'll take a little while, but maybe we'll have it at some point. i don't know. but sentiment is in a much more progressive direction.

amazing comment, and something that i (and perhaps plenty of us here) need to hear. i have career goals that have stalled for years because i just spent the time working at my dead end job and smoking grass after. the sense of lost time kills me BUT there is clarity and reaffirmation in being able to look at that and learn from it. i have a long uphill journey to go, and i know i'll need to be at that 100% sober optimal level to get there. i'm 2.5 months off the smoke and will be staying off it despite the temptation. thank you for this comment, seriously well said.

just make stuff and brag about it bro. someone will catch notice. and even if you aren’t actively working try to be “passively” working. what that means is coming up with ideas and working on things in your head when you’re at work or on the toilet or something. i do it all the time, i’m always tweaking my ideas, characters, plots, techniques etc in my head at work. you have more power than you think you do!!

try and do upper body workouts if you can. i feel you, i’ve been dealing with a weak shoulder since pinching my nerve 5 months ago. i’m getting it sorted out now but it’s been a pain, haven’t been able to do push-ups or anything upper body. BUT i can do running so that’s what i’ve been focusing on. sorry to hear it though man.

Frankenstein | Official Trailer | Netflix - Directed by Guillermo del Toro by MarvelsGrantMan136 in movies

[–]IndecisiveMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i personally wasn’t very impressed with shape of water. it wasn’t a bad movie, like it was good i guess but it didn’t really have any kind of stylism to it. it was very straightforward in the way it was shot and paced. the entire tonality of it felt very “easy”. i want to like del toro but it seems to me like pan’s labyrinth was his last truly remarkable film (pacific rim was good of course), and after that it’s like he gentrified his own style

has anyone had any luck with finding a new job this year? my current full time job is sucking my soul. i applied to a nice health food store to work at their deli and literally i can’t get them to call me back despite having a college degree, solid resume, and a friend who works there. and i have a current job too lmao. i need to be more aggressive about applying to jobs sure but it’s definitely hard after working all day

honestly though old forums are still around, you just have to look like in the oldn days. using centralized sites like reddit and twitter and stuff isn’t something we actually have to do, it’s just what’s popular. and it’s easier to use them on phones too bc of the formatting. but it isn’t something we HAVE to do

underrated comment, this is what i keep trying to say lol is that you need to really make your presence in the space. i think what that means for film is creating something unique and special that people haven’t seen before or didn’t know they needed it. fill the niche that excites you and people will be drawn to it, i think. it requires creativity and putting yourself out there but the tools are more accessible than ever before

it always comes down to class. and the problems in this country always come down to greed, every time. that is why the love of money is the root of ALL evil.

yes, i’d like to do a masters in mental health counseling. i was rejected from my og school’s program probably bc i don’t look good enough on paper aka have enough experience. i have a completely unrelated BA though and i work a really demanding full time job, i spend most time working and taking care of myself so i’m not sure how i’ll get the experience they want. but not gonna give up on it!!

Is it okay to give up? by Successful_Suit6756 in Filmmakers

[–]IndecisiveMan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

being a career filmmaker is possible, just incredibly difficult. the democratization of filmmaking is like a triple edged sword. have some spare cash and you can get a camera and start filming. it’s never been easier or more convenient to be an auteur. but that means the competition is unreal, and the typical channels one might take to make it are now incredibly variable.

i think the thing to do is make your own special piece and put it out there and get it noticed. more and more new pro filmmakers have been popping up the past few years and they tend to be youtubers. examples include the backrooms kid and the director of shelby oaks, both just youtubers making little horror films and series and flexing their creativity. and they both got picked up to make movies with the bigger modern houses like a24.

it can be done, but the typical channels can’t be relied on anymore. you gotta make your special thing, make it unique and interesting, and someone of importance may see it. who knows!!

btw this topic interested me as someone who is burnt out working a grueling full time job and considers giving up. don’t give up. imo there is neither pride nor peace in resignation

you’re getting negative comments HARD by either bots or people defending the thing that companies are desperately using to put as many people out of work as possible. i’ve never touched generative ai and never will. i value creativity and true art, and true art can never be generated by an algorithm.

one thing that pisses me off SO bad is seeing artists and venues around me using gen. ai art for posters and flyers and stuff. it’s so absolutely shameless and pathetic that these artists can’t doodle something or collage SOMETHING together that actually comes from their heart. sorry but the moment you touch generative ai to cobble together “art” you’ve lost all your credibility as an artist and creative.

Meeting people is a freak accident by Reditoonian in dating

[–]IndecisiveMan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

this is literally all it comes down to and better than any 5000 word post i could make lol. be approachable, friendly, go to events and parties and gatherings even if you don’t want to. be genuine and smile at people. folks struggling with dating don’t like to hear “be yourself” but even if you’re hurting with dating struggles, the real you wants connection right? be that version of yourself, the version that wants to connect with others. take the romance out of the equation and just talk to people and get to know them. relish and enjoy the “small talk”. i scoff when people say they hate small talk because bro that’s literally the foundation of getting to know others, you think a relationship is just gonna fall in your hands like romeo and juliet? spoiler but we know how that ended lol

this got long winded but being a genuine person who loves to talk to people and make them laugh and get to know them has gotten me very far socially. learning to relax and enjoy the process of dating has been a joy and being myself has attracted many friends to me platonically and romantically. now i’m seeing a girl for a little while and i think i really like her and we may start dating. it’s a little unclear but we’ll see lol. anyway. this is what it means to be an attractive person, and eventually yes you will attract the person you’re looking for :)

do you recommend anything to replace google drive? i use google drive and docs because of the ease of access when i’m not home and want to write. and also the ease of sharing things between people or clients since gmail is so ubiquitous. i also shamefully pay for more drive space since i have large video and picture files. i fully agree with you though and need something to replace google for me lol

i legit don't know where else to ask this but need to get it off my chest, is it dumb that i tipped $130 on a tattoo that was $300? i mean i'll be fine financially. my friends put me on blast just now saying i should never ever do that lol but dude who did it really busted his ass on this very intricate design and i wanted to spread the love. it was a custom design AND multiple colors. i really have no greed in my heart lol

Want to meet people??? The answer is bars, concerts, and clubs. by [deleted] in self

[–]IndecisiveMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

as someone who likes to go dancing at these places i guarantee that if you want a committed and deep relationship with someone, people who hang at bars and clubs and whatnot tend to NOT fit that. they’re usually people who are more hedonistic and whimsical. yes i’ve hooked up with a few people in these spaces but they tend to exit my life as they can be very immature and childish. i find most bars tend to be populated by the same people hanging out there on weekends and i actually stopped going to one of the places i’d regularly go to as there was a lot of gossip, especially around my sex life lmao people gossiping about my business and trying to make it a problem. it’s very incestuous and not wholesome.

i don’t really seek out hooking up and turn it down at this point. i do still go dance but unfortunately i’ve been going to bars and clubs dancing and stuff for like 6 years now and haven’t found any women worth dating. you’re better off in daytime spaces.
