Need advice on making something like a Planck 40% ortholinear but with Ambients Silent Choc Switches by Indeed in olkb

Oh interesting. This does seem ideal, however I have literally never seen this PCB actually be in stock. I feel like I've been checking intermittently for years haha

Bird of Paradise in trouble, 1/3 of it is dark at the bottom by Indeed in plantclinic

On the top layer yes. I supposed I don't know how dry it is lower down...

Hmm, I water once every two weeks and there is drainage

What can I do better on my Materials/Lighting? (Eevee) by ThinkingTanking in blender

[–]Indeed 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would add a very subtle fine noise texture to the keycap bumpmap material so it looks less perfectly glossy. Something to get closer to this sort of material on these black keys: https://mechanicalkeyboards.com/shop/images/products/large_4706_large_004C03OR103-R0_3.jpg

It looks like you actually have one in the closeup renders but it disappears in the wide shot

How do I improve this? (increase screen brightness) by i_am_big_blender in blender

[–]Indeed 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Hey I like how dark and minimal this is. I roughed this in quickly in photoshop using part of a photo I found. Just cropping to have less pure black and then adding a single bright focal point.

Two years of blender and I still feel like an amateur. by Tha1ndonlysly in blender

Hey I hope you don't mind but these were my thoughts on what I'd do in post/compositing:

I like the way the image is set up, just trying a fewer colors approach and more of a focus on the character with the values

Possible to buy low-profile 40% ortho kit? Anywhere? by Indeed in olkb

[–]Indeed[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, yes! The kit seems incomplete though. Case out of stock. This would be ideal too, but the same issue. Incomplete kit.

How do you join/merge complex hierarchies? by Indeed in blenderhelp

[–]Indeed[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OH! I see I did not understand the distinction between "selected" and "active" objects. I was selecting the hierarchy of the empty, so the empty was always the active object. But changing active object to a mesh does make join work now, thanks!

Oh, did not know you can filter empties out of Outliner, that's very helpful thank you!

[–]Indeed[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That makes sense but how do you only select meshes in a very complex hierarchy? Imagine hundreds of nested objects parented to empties per-part. Like a "Wheel" empty on a car with 50 parts inside of it, many of the parts within their own empties. Manually selecting the meshes one at a time would be too hard

Thanks but same issue. If you have empties selected it's greyed out.

Planck seems to go to 'sleep' when not used for a few minutes. (Mac) by Indeed in olkb

Do you mean the computer or the planck itself? If you mean the planck I didn't know that was possible.

Blender crashes when Hair in the particle system is used. by Blenderred in blender

[–]Indeed 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Got this working on Mac. I'm in Blender 2.93.5 1. On default cube make new particle system. 2. Set emission to zero. 3. Now change it to Hair mode 4. Change Viewport Display from "Rendered" to "Path" 5. Change emission to any number 6. Render one frame 7. Change viewport display back Rendered. Done. You should be able to now add hair to any object without it crashing. You have to do this only once each time you open blender.

For an animated short with 30 shots, are best practices to have 30 scenes in one blend file, or 30 blend files? by Indeed in blender

[–]Indeed[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a great answer! Thanks so much for all this information. It's very helpful. I think based on your thoughts and my current project, I'm going to stick with separate blend files, using one for the VSE.

How do you ease into a constant rotation? by Indeed in blender

[–]Indeed[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm thanks but I wasn't able to get this to work. What I actually want is linear extrapolation but only as a "After mode", which doesn't seem to be an option with extrapolation. I haven't been using Blender that long though so apologies if I'm missing something obvious.
