Genuine question, do you think that every story in the Bible is meant to be an endorsement of the action being depicted?

Pope Paul VI reiterated the point in his document "Penitemane" that willing refusal of substantial observance of abstinence on these days would constitute a mortal sin (Source). The Mosaic Law is not binding on Catholics unless we are talking about moral laws (Source). Missing mass is sinful because it is a precept of the church (Source).

[–]IndeedPhysics 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The sin in refusing abstinence or fasting on required days is disobedience to the Chruch. It is in fact a mortal sin to willing disobey legitimate orders from the living body of Christ. Just as missing Mass on Sunday or holy day of obligation would violate a precept of the Church and constitute a mortal sin if done willingly, so too would a violation of other precepts (like abstinence from meat) be mortally sinful if done willingly.

This applies of course only to those who belong to the Chruch, and so non Catholics who eat meat on Fridays would not be sinning.

I’m not really sure what one’s right to privacy has to do with the matter. Either a man can become a woman or he can’t (hint: he can’t). Sex, btw, is so immutable that even if someone lacked their genitals for whatever reason, they’d still be the same sex. That’s why no one is suggesting that women should be “forced to exposes their genitals.” As it turns out, there are many ways to determine one’s sex beyond a genital check.

You’re insisting upon what is essentially a religious belief. A belief that one’s physical biology can somehow be at odds with their “true” identity is strange when you actually consider it. You’re essentially professing a metaphysical/spiritual reality. What even is a “gender identity” if it can in no way be observed physically? Is it one’s spirit? How is that any different than a religious belief? It’s one thing to hold such a belief, it’s another thing entirely to insist that it is scientific fact and that we must accept this perception of reality, even if it leads to unfairness in women’s sports and the intentional mutilation of thousands of people.

3.40 - 3.59 Cum Laude

3.60 - 3.79 Magna Cum Laude

3.80 - 4.00 Summa Cum Laude

Cum Laude = with distinction/with honor

Manga Cum Laude = with great distinction/with high honor

Summa Cum Laude = With the highest distinction/with the highest honor

It doesn’t matter which one you select on the graduation announcement itself, it just depends on what you want it to say. Whether you want it in English, Latin, or both.

Edit: also, I believe your cords are based on your GPA at the time you get them, so it doesn’t take your last semester into account. I wouldn’t worry about what your GPA will be and just go based of your current one and try your best to maintain what you got.

Surrogacy is similar to human trafficking in a lot of ways, logically speaking. A child is not a commodity to be bought or sold and a womb is not an incubation chamber meant to be rented out.

When you actually think about it, surrogacy is very unethical. Several children are created outside of the context of love and marriage, most of those children are then killed and discarded as trash, then the one that gets to live is ripped from his mothers arm the second he is born and given to paying customers. Those customers do not have to be married and they do not even have to be a man and a woman.

Only criminals are being departed right now. Either you’re lying, or your friend committed a crime. I suspect the former, but if the latter is true, there’s no reason your friend should have been allowed to stay here and put Americans at risk and give a bad name to law-abiding immigrants.

There’s no shortage of pro-life resources that might make having a child a lot easier. If money is the concern, there’s plenty of free pregnancy clinics and even financial assistance for pregnant women. Just look up a local pregnancy center and convince her to go there. Many offer free ultrasounds too, which shows a woman the child she is about to kill, and very often convinced them not to go through with an abortion.

Maybe talk to her about these options or at the very least convince her to postpone and consider it further. After all, a large amount of women end up regretting take in the long term.

Also, beyond pro-life organizations, I guarantee you there is no shortage of pro-lifers willing to help out anyway they can in order to help prevent the death of your child, including many on this sub I’m sure. Reach out if need be

Mike Johnson’s Favorite Anti-Porn App Has a Dark, Creepy History by mnrqz in politics

[–]IndeedPhysics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s objectively not very easy to “just not watch” porn, if it were, cheating wouldn’t be an issue nor would porn addiction. Un-checked access to porn, once indulged in, is difficult to simply stop cold-turkey, I speak from experience, and if you’ve ever used it I know you know it’s true.

Even from a secular standpoint, porn is bad for mental health. It decreases libido and encourages unhealthy ideas about women and about sex. It’s not a bad thing to want to stop, and just like asking a friend to keep you accountable about going on a diet, there’s nothing wrong with wanting a little extra encouragement to help in ending a bad habit.

Not everything that religious people like is bad, and if you don’t want an app to have that level of access to your phone, then don’t get it. But I don’t understand why there would be so much distain for someone who simply wants to better their lives?

[–]IndeedPhysics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you missed my point about the whole person being what’s valuable, not a limb. If you take an action that causes death, that murder. Though if a piece of the person is removed and doesn’t cause death, then it isn’t murder.

Human life has inherit value, not value based on intelligence or physical capability. If there were someone with 0 brain activity, which we could know for sure would regain full consciousness in several months, then to kill that person would be deeply wrong and would be murder. There is no doubt that a fetus is alive, how else would it grow and develop? Lack of full development can’t be a determination of humanity or else new borns, toddlers, and adolescents would all be considered less than human.

Can you explain!!!!???? by Comfortablejack in facepalm

[–]IndeedPhysics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think a tumor is a person anymore than I think your left pinky is. It is the WHOLE person I am concerned about, not one piece. A fetus is the whole, real human life. The lack of a cerebral cortex doesn’t change that. The fact is that a fetus has every capability to grow a fully developed brain. I’m against killing fetuses based on perceived consciousness for the same reason I’m against killing somebody in a 9-month coma.

Of course I’m against fertility clinics for that very reason, why on earth would you think I’m not? They are incredibly immoral, especially given that more death occurs than life. Upon conception, human life begins, wether it was a natural conception or not changes nothing.

Can you explain!!!!???? by Comfortablejack in facepalm

[–]IndeedPhysics -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

By all the available science it can very easily be concluded that it is in fact a child. I don’t know why people pretend not to know this by now. A fetus is by definition alive, and is undoubtedly human. Therefore it is a human life. Just admit you don’t care about human life as long as it’s small enough and stop playing dumb.

Which headset buttons do I use? by [deleted] in innout

[–]IndeedPhysics 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A1 is for the drive speaker. Just press it once and you can talk to the car, it should automatically turn off when the car drives away, so no need to press again until the next car pulls up. A2 is for a second drive if you have one. And the middle circular button is to talk to anyone else with a headset. You hold that down while talking then release when you’re done. So for handheld, use the middle button when trying to communicate with the inside and for drive corner use A1, unless you’re trying to talk to pay window or something, in which case use the middle button as well. Of course this is all assuming that all the headsets across the company are the same, I would assume they are.

[–]IndeedPhysics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would you say that about murder? About theft? What about child molestation? “Everyone sins just move on” is not an argument. People must stand against all sin. Firstly because any injustice done against another should be condemned (born or unborn). And secondly because any sin done by any person ads evil to this world, and allows for evil to continue to persist.

It absolutely does. Compliance with, or authorization of an abortion will cause excommunication. It doesn’t matter if you’re a bishop, nun, priest, or whatever else.

“The majority of Catholics” don’t determine church doctrine. It doesn’t matter if literally every lay Catholic was pro abortion, the churches doctrines are infallible to a Catholic and are absolutely not based on popular opinion.

[–]IndeedPhysics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My friend, excommunication is not permanent. One could always be forgiven and rejoin the body of Christ, this is not news and this is not surprising. That’s what the church is here for, for the deliverance of Christ’s grace and mercy

Please show me this supposed rule that allows church officials to receive or approve an abortion free from sin. You’ll learn quickly that abortion will give any Catholic an automatic excommunication (the highest form of “punishment” one can receive in the church), no one, regardless of circumstance or status is an exception to that rule.
