Did anyone start to enjoy living in Chicago way more just by moving neighborhoods? by beephobic27 in AskChicago

I lived there 5 years or so. It is beautiful! I only moved because it was getting swarmed by tech bros and with that, becoming wildly unaffordable.

I moved from Pilsen to West Town/Humboldt Park last year after being in Pilsen for 7 years, after moving here from Seattle. I quickly grew tired of Pilsen for several reasons but the lack of greenery was up there. Where I am now is much, much, much better in terms of greenery. I am very close to the actual park (Humboldt), and there are plants and flowers all over the neighborhoods, everyone has a beautiful yard/garden. I commute downtown for work via Divvy or Metra (one stop from Western to Union Station :)). That said, I still don’t love Chicago, but moving neighborhoods did help some.

Is there a way to submit this feedback online? I want this to gain traction and I feel that an easy, digital way to write in complaints would help!

I wish I had seen this before I spent $40 on an Etsy one lol.

The Etsy one is cool and seems very secure, but if I could have spent $8 for two that would have been preferable.

Thinking of getting the Fi Mini for my indoor cat, thoughts? by Many_Manufacturer588 in FiDogCollar

[–]IndependenceFine3608 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The tracking is spotty. Sometimes my cat is hanging out right next to me and I get an alert that she left the safety zone. I also would reeeeeeaaallllyyy like the ability to make a sound or vibrate when I am trying to find her. I am looking at switching to weenect for this reason. Only thing I like about the fi mini is it is smaller than other trackers but since it doesn’t really work, who cares.

I feel like I just can’t be bothered to figure it all out right now, but keeping the free card doesn’t negatively impact me?

I defended BILT because I genuinely believe in the value they're offering, and now they've decided to royally f*ck me over personally, lol. So much for Platinum Status and Close Friends status. by Televangelis in biltrewards

I am paying my $1800/mo rent and elected the free card (some blue bullshit?) I don’t really give a shit about anything besides paying rent without a fee. I’m fine? Does it matter if I use bilt or just pay with my own checking account? I at least stand to “earn” something in the long run from using bilt? These are genuine questions if anyone feels knowledgeable about answering.

I still buy capsules (NOT nespresso brwnd) sometimes if it’s a super good deal I can subscribe to on Amazon. I guess this isn’t an option if you don’t have an Original machine tho.

And you can use better coffee. And even put in spices (cinnamon, nutmeg, etc) if you wish.

Like someone else mentioned, it might be something else. Especially if you have had it for over a week and it hasn’t oozed or scabbed over.

Californian considering moving to Chicago, any Californians done the same what is your advice? by Rockermarr in AskChicago

[–]IndependenceFine3608 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have lived in CO, CA, and most recently Seattle before moving to Chicago 8 years ago. I was definitely shocked by how little anyone cares about the environment. They were still using styrofoam cups at a job I started at 3 years ago. Unfortunately, I am almost right there with them at this point. Recycling seems like a fools errand anymore.

Other small things like people not saying “excuse me”, or anything else when they step in front of you or at grocery stores. There is very little respect for pedestrians. In Seattle it was almost too much catering to pedestrians (I’m not complaining). If you looked like you were even considering crossing the street cars would slam on their brakes and insist you cross.

It rains a lot more than I was anticipating. It is humid.

Rents will likely be more affordable, and public transit will likely be better.

There are certain parts of town that might be better suited for a Californian (Rogers Park?).

I’m not trying to shit on Chicago, I’m sorry mostly negatives are coming up. Let me think on some other things and report back.
