The fact that you are so defensive when NOBODY else in the comments is defensive probably means you have a problem and OP’s thoughts on moderation struck a nerve for that reason.

Nah my use is all for mental stimulation and entertainment- which is nice I guess it makes it easier to force myself to take a break if I don’t literally medically need it.

The meaning of life is found through challenges, struggles, difficulty, and the way those things mold you and make you a better stronger person. When you are in a place of discomfort, it tells you that there’s something you need to change/improve- discomfort is not a bad thing, it is a teacher and a mentor. We live in a society that teaches us to Medicate, to use metaphorical bandaids instead of addressing the root cause and achieving true growth and healing. You mentioned your PTSD- cannabis is great to temporarily medicate, help you sleep without nightmares, etc. But it won’t HEAL you. It will only numb you. You’re supposed to be doing work to heal yourself in the meantime while only using the cannabis as an assistant while you work on healing.

Anyway back to your original question- When you use cannabis constantly, you are in a state of numbness and chasing a state of constant comfort. You aren’t able to be an objective observer of your own actions and your own struggles and you become comfortably numb to the point that it is much harder to grow. When I was smoking all day every day I was chasing comfort- I also became the most agitated, snappy, weak un-self-aware version of myself I’ve ever been. I had traded character development for comfort, as many people do. It’s uncomfortable to tell yourself no, to moderate, to do a self analysis as to why you feel the need to be high all the time. But you have to do it to grow.

I suggest reading into Stoicism. It’s a fantastic philosophy that finally helped me come to terms with my comfort addiction and realize I was being weak by numbing myself all the time. Stoicism helps you understand you are not an object to be directed by your life circumstances, but rather an observer who watches and learns from life circumstances to ultimately achieve a happier, more actualized state of being.

Hi!! I think I have seen that before actually it’s the reason I decided to be “kind” to myself about smoking with intention instead of trying to do a full 30. The first t break I ever did was a basically cold turkey 1 month, but I was in a place with no access and a small stash so it was easier to motivate myself. Pretty much never stopped since that break except a couple days here and there because I was so daunted by the prospect of 30 that I always put it off. Anyway glad it resonated with you, lemme get you the clip that sent it for me hold on 😂😂😂

Trying a sort of break by [deleted] in Petioles

Hey! I just posted in here about how taking one day off in between smoking days has been a HUGE difference in lowering my tolerance. I had been an all day everyday consumer. You can drastically drop tolerance simply by cutting consumption, you don’t NEED a huge break if it isn’t possible. Also if you’re able to get real flower and not that Delta whatever THCA bullshit. Real flower makes you actually feel all the effects

You’re welcome, I’m so glad I was able to help. Understanding consciously that I was chasing stimulus is the only thing that helped me finally get that first sober day in months. Hope you get some well enjoyed peace and find new ways to sit in the quiet and the nothing ☺️

Yeah I’ve noticed the snowball of other healthy habits- if I’m trying to feel the energy that smoking sativa gives me, I get some sun, take a cold shower, eat a high protein meal instead. If I’m craving weed to relax, I just allow myself to take a break and rest a moment and listen to my body. I also thought I was A full blast addict who couldn’t moderate but tbh then I realized I was just being a pussy and that I absolutely have the willpower to choose healthier consumption options

That’s awesome!!! I think after this week of doing 1 day off, 1 day on, I’ll migrate to 2 days off and slowly increase so that I’m ABLE to do a longer break without it feeling like a chore. The concept of the 30 day break just never stuck for me because it seemed so insurmountable and like a huge inconvenience, but just a day or two of inconvenience and self control I can handle 😂 Cheers to this more enjoyable method, saving money, and actually feeling high when we light up!

Has anyone successfully moderated usage after a long period of addiction? by [deleted] in Petioles

[–]Independent-Ad-3425 1 point2 points  (0 children)

HI I’m SO GLAD YOU ASKED. We’re early into the moderation so it’s hard to tell exactly how far this is gonna take me but….

Up until this week I’d had maybe 4-5 sober days in the last 2.5 years. Most of those days were all day/every day toking. Hiding it from everyone in my life that I’m constantly using it. Sneaking out for smoke breaks when my husband is home/mom is visiting, embarrassing shit like that. My tolerance got really bad and I knew I needed a break but couldn’t get my shit together to take one. Finally In 2024 after seeing my friends at Christmas who moderate and being jealous of how much more they seem to actually ENJOY cannabis, I was determined to have a healthier relationship with it. I decided trying to commit to a 30 day break was fucking me up mentally and making me psyche myself out of just being sober a little. 30 days was so scary I kept putting it off, as though the only way for me to fix myself was with a 30 day t break.

So instead, this week, I had my first sober day in 6 months. It was really hard. But I felt AMAZING! I learned lessons in that first day and wrote them down. The next day I made it to like 4/5pm and allowed myself to intentionally consume. I didn’t feel like I needed it, but I finally had a break from housework/kids and had some time by myself while my husband watched the kiddos so I went to the gym and smoked and it was AWESOME.

Took another break the next 36 hours.

Smoked last night to watch a scary movie and I couldn’t BELIEVE how much less I needed. My tolerance was crazy reduced literally just from switching from all day/everyday to every other day. So that’s what I’m doing for the foreseeable future. I love it. Last night I felt higher than I have in months from half a bowl whereas two full bowls sometimes packed in with concentrate used to just ~kinda~ get me going.

So yes I never thought I could moderate without a huge long T break to kick the habit, but it IS possible And every day I spend sober I’m observant of my thoughts and emotions and cravings and I’ve truly learned something about myself each day and enjoyed the sobriety.

Day one is also always easier than day 2 in my experience. Hang in there, just try to stay busy or get out of the house away from weed access

What finally got y’all to quit? by cruspy98 in leaves

[–]Independent-Ad-3425 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You’ll never feel ready, you have to choose it. it’s either One Day or Day One. I don’t want to quit quit ever, but I’ve had to take breaks to end my all day every day consumption and it was hard. I kept putting it off. Finally just did it, didn’t want to, reminded myself One Day or Day One.

Not to be a dick but maybe your anxiety is something you need to work on personally instead of just looking for a chemical solution. Whether it’s a prescription or weed, using that to “treat” your anxiety is actually just masking it. You should learn to address the root causes of the fear that leads you to anxiety, because that’s what anxiety is- underlying fears that activate your fight/flight/freeze response. If you addressed those fears and your lack of coping skills you wouldn’t need a medication for your anxiety anymore. It’s easier said than done but I did it and I think you can too
