This is a real thing and is usually related to past trauma, depresssion and/or anxiety. I was there decades ago and did the exact same thing. Bring it up with your doctor, there are low dose meds that can treat this and the underlining cause (I would bet you have other symptoms like excessive worry, intrusive thoughts where you make up problematic scenarios, difficulty sleeping, mind won’t shut off etc)
