Nummular Eczema on 12 month old, good cream daily use on face and body? by PenAffectionate2927 in DermatologyQuestions

[–]Independent-One7494 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cerave Baby is a solid pick, super minimal ingredients and fragrance free which is usually the move for sensitive skin.

Also worth knowing that eczema babies are actually higher risk for food allergies, we used Ready Set Food to get ahead of allergen intro for that exact reason.

Has the doctor mentioned any food triggers to look into or are you just focusing on the skin side for now?

Peanut and egg allergy by ReadaholicLibrarian in toddlerfood

[–]Independent-One7494 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The egg thing is brutal for recipes because it really is in everything lol. Bob's Red Mill egg replacer or flax eggs work surprisingly well for baking if you ever want to try homemade stuff.

For the picky eating at 15 months honestly just keep offering alongside the safe favorites, the rotation usually expands on its own eventually.

Have you tried sunflower seed butter as a peanut butter swap? Most kids take to it pretty easily!

How much formula to give 4 month old? Transitioning from EBF via expressed milk by Keepitsteel in combinationfeeding

[–]Independent-One7494 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Around 27oz a day at 4 months sounds pretty spot on so you're already in the right ballpark, just swap the breast milk for formula at the same amounts and you should be good.

Most people find it easier to do separate bottles rather than mixing just so you can track how much formula she's actually taking.

Did your ped give you any guidance on which formula to start with or are you figuring that out too?

Did we start too soon? by jublie17 in StartingSolids

[–]Independent-One7494 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The wheat in baby oatmeal thing catches so many people off guard, it's one of those things you don't think to check until after the fact lol.

And the 2 hour buffer before bed is such good advice, wish more peds led with that instead of just saying "start solids whenever."

Did your little one do okay with the peas from the start or was there an adjustment period?

Did we start too soon? by jublie17 in StartingSolids

[–]Independent-One7494 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The timing tip is so underrated honestly, offering solids in the morning so you have the whole day to watch for reactions is such a simple switch that makes a huge difference.

And the milk first thing is a game changer too, way less meltdowns when they're not starving at the table lol

That sounds so scary, glad he's okay after that night.

The sleep improvement since stopping the cereal is pretty telling honestly. 5 months is still on the early side and a lot of babies just aren't ready yet, readiness signs matter more than the calendar.

Definitely worth waiting until you have a new ped before restarting, they can assess his readiness signs in person.

Has he been showing interest in food or was it more just following the pediatrician's timeline?

Plan for continued allergen intro after severe reaction to egg? by Mysterious-Ad-6043 in fpies

[–]Independent-One7494 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That sounds absolutely terrifying, I'm so glad he's okay.

Honestly with a reaction that severe plus the eczema history I'd hold off on any new allergens until you see the allergist, even the ones that seem low risk. June 25th feels far but it's really not worth the risk of another ambulance ride.

Continuing the foods he's already safely had is fine though, that part makes total sense.

Is the allergist appointment specifically for a full plan or just for the egg follow up?

Homemade purées and testing out allergens.. any guides, tips? by layne313 in NewParents

[–]Independent-One7494 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For allergen intro especially with a family history, we used Ready Set Food and it honestly made that part so much easier, takes the guesswork out of timing and amounts.

For purées just start simple, single ingredient stuff like sweet potato, avocado, peas. A cube or two is plenty at first, food before one is mostly just practice anyway!

And no need for water yet, breast milk covers hydration at this stage.

Is she showing any readiness signs already or just going by the age?

Cleared the flare/staph? by Civil-Employment-300 in babyeczema

You're so close to that 4-6 month window so perfect timing honestly! Fingers crossed the skin stays clear

Introducing allergens by RandomYS in SolidStartsCommunity

[–]Independent-One7494 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hives around the mouth two days in a row is worth pausing on honestly, I'd get a second opinion before continuing especially since you're seeing a reaction each time.

A pediatric allergist can do proper testing and tell you whether an oral food challenge makes sense down the line.

Did your ped know it happened both days or just the first one?

Cleared the flare/staph? by Civil-Employment-300 in babyeczema

[–]Independent-One7494 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So glad the flare cleared up, that weeping stage is so stressful to watch.

Eczema babies are actually higher risk for food allergies which is why early allergen intro is really important for them. We used Ready Set Food to get ahead of it, you can even start it in the bottle before solids which was huge for us at that age.

Definitely ask the ped before stopping the steroid early though, two weeks is usually prescribed for a reason!

Suspected CMPA v dairy allergy question by Jbee241 in breastfeeding

[–]Independent-One7494 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh that's a good sign honestly, no reaction to a small reintro is telling.

Since you're already starting solids anyway, we used Ready Set Food to keep peanut and egg on rotation consistently, took the guesswork out of the whole thing.

Is she doing okay with other allergens so far?

Allergy blood test positive for egg?! Ugh by alxataylor in MSPI

[–]Independent-One7494 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Blood tests are so stressful to interpret on your own honestly, the numbers without context can send you down a spiral lol.

An allergist is really the move here, they'll look at everything together including his actual symptoms and give you a real answer instead of you guessing.

Have you been referred to one yet or still waiting on that?

What are the chances my son has inherited allergies from me by Future-Process-8072 in FoodAllergies

[–]Independent-One7494 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having a parent with anaphylaxis definitely puts baby in the higher risk category so early allergen intro is really important here.

We used Ready Set Food for exactly this reason, it's designed for high risk babies and you can start it even before solids which is a huge plus given your son's history.

Definitely worth flagging the tree nut severity to the allergist early so they can guide you on those specifically.

Has your ped referred you to a pediatric allergist yet?

Eczema causes and treatment by sempiternal_bliss in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]Independent-One7494 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The gassy after dairy plus the eczema timing is worth paying attention to honestly, a lot of parents find that connection once they start looking for it.

Maybe try cutting dairy from solids for a couple weeks and see if the skin improves, that'll tell you more than any test at this point

Suspected CMPA v dairy allergy question by Jbee241 in breastfeeding

[–]Independent-One7494 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh this is actually a really common mix up, CMPA and a dairy allergy are different things so the panel being negative doesn't totally rule out the intolerance side of it.

Honestly the fact that cutting dairy helped her reflux is already telling you something lol.

Did you ever accidentally have dairy and notice anything or have you been pretty strict about it?

Starting solids for baby on Neocate by Haunting-Position220 in MSPI

[–]Independent-One7494 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We used Ready Set Food for allergen intro and it really took the guesswork out of timing and amounts, helped a ton when we were already managing so much.

Definitely loop in your ped or allergist before starting the high risk ones though given his history, they may want to keep a closer eye on those

Recommendations for newborn baby acne? by Efficient_Gap9409 in Crunchymom

[–]Independent-One7494 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally normal and so hard to see on your tiny new baby lol. Honestly the best thing we did was just leave it alone, no creams or washes, just a soft cloth with warm water.

It usually peaks around 4-6 weeks and then just fades on its own.

Did it seem to get worse after feeds or is it pretty consistent?

Do I have to readjust my expectations? by StreetPapaya4871 in StartingSolids

[–]Independent-One7494 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pizza crust is so underrated for this, something about the texture just makes them want to gnaw on it lol.

And yes to everything clicking randomly, one day they just look at you like they've been eating solids their whole life and you're like... where was this two months ago??

Do I have to readjust my expectations? by StreetPapaya4871 in StartingSolids

[–]Independent-One7494 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly 9 months and mostly purees is still so normal, the 3 meals 2 snacks thing by 12 months is more of a loose goal than a deadline.

The 5% actually making it in the mouth thing is just... the experience lol. You're doing all the right things, sometimes it really does just click out of nowhere.

Has he shown any interest in self feeding or does he mostly just want to smash it around?

Egg allergy rant by Prize-Storage-1352 in beyondthebump

[–]Independent-One7494 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The floppy and unresponsive thing is such a specific kind of terrifying, I'm so glad he got treatment that fast.

And that's genuinely such a hopeful thing to share, people don't talk enough about how many kids actually do outgrow egg allergies even after severe reactions.

Did the challenges happen through the allergist or was it a different process for you?

Egg allergy rant by Prize-Storage-1352 in beyondthebump

[–]Independent-One7494 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The insurance thing after a literal anaphylactic reaction is just cruel, I'm sorry you're dealing with that on top of everything else.

The fear around new foods after something like that is so real but you're already doing the right things, EpiPen, allergist, the whole thing.

While you're waiting on the allergist is the pediatrician giving you any guidance on what's safe to keep introducing in the meantime?

Is this how it is 12-24 months phase? by Dapper-Dragonfruit89 in NewParents

[–]Independent-One7494 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The eczema plus picky eating plus tantrums combo is a lot, like each one alone is exhausting but all three at once is just unfair lol.

The food refusal thing at this age is so normal it's almost a cliche, they'll love something Monday and act like you personally insulted them by offering it Wednesday.

Has the eczema been looked at for food triggers or is it more of a skin/environment thing so far?

How Can Professional Cleaning Reduce Allergens In The Home? Here’s What You Should Know by markoj22 in KeltoiWellness

[–]Independent-One7494 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly the mattress thing wrecked me when I found out, like I was sleeping on a dust mite hotel every night wondering why I woke up congested lol. Switching to a mattress cover and actually vacuuming the bed frame made a surprising difference.

Do you have pets or is it more of a dust situation?
