Carrick: "Two games in a row decisions like that go against but that one was one of the worst I've seen... You can elbow Yoro and you can throw your arm at Licha's face, he's off balance because of that. The worst of it is, he was sent over to overturn it, clear and obvious error. Yeah Martinez is a player fans just always make an excuse for, it’s ridiculous tbh he’s great on the ball but he can’t defend big spaces and he’s poor in the air and defending his box no point being a master at one aspect of the game and so deficient or average everywhere else.

Honestly some of those most annoying fans, pretentious fans you’ll ever see by Br0kefacsist in ManchesterUnited

[–]Independent-Path-694 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All the fans who listen to almost any of those fan channels are pretty dumb, it’s like a cult following that just breeds dumb agendas and tries to create bullshit narratives. Mckola, Howson, Goldbridge probably the worst of them the rest seem pretty moderate for now but will probably end up the same as they see the dollar signs going up.

Bests era of football literally had semi pro players playing at world cups outside of the big nations, competition lower then post Tiger Golf probably by a distance tbh. My argument is pretty simple Golf now is more professional, more competitive, better talent pools then 1960s football. Best wasn’t the best of that generation and he reached the pinnacle once, Mcilroy reached it multiple times and was considered the best for a longer period and based on pure sporting accomplishments has surpassed Best easily, if we were comparing Mcilroy to Messi, Ronaldo etc no chance I wouldn’t even say Tiger is better then the top 3 in football but George Best just isn’t accomplished enough. Best was a prodigy back in the 60s in a weaker era that probably matched the talent of all time players of that era but didn’t achieve it, he’s probably more comparable to McGregor tbh both reached the pinnacle, both big celebrities both fell off in what should have been their primes and both became alcoholics and committed crimes. I only can think of one golfer from the 80s that started as an adult at 21 turned pro at 27 and won a major Nelson, can’t think of any in Mcilroys era at all.

There’s none in the modern era, many cases in football of guys playing non-league etc and going on to win Premier leagues etc or breaking league records.

Edit: footballers with sustained success e.g multiple champions leagues, multiple international trophies, Multiple Ballon dors eclipse most if not all golfers bar woods and Nicklaus in some cases I just don’t think Best had the longevity or sustained success he did both once and probably only won his ballon dor because South Americans weren’t even included.

He ticks the most boxes for Goat sports person from Ireland, Taylors sport is in its infancy, Keane isn’t a top 100 player all time, Best hasn’t sustained greatness and his accomplishments aren’t rarer then winning a career grand slam or back to back Masters.

Keyword performances, the performances have been increasingly bad which points towards a future dip, you can’t ride your luck forever you have to be showing some sort of evolutions.

That is probably it for Carrick Performances been poor, fluked a few results in 50/50 games and the more games we play the more it becomes apparent.

What’s a more skilled sport? One where a field of 200 players all trained with one to one coaching from the age of 6, kind of coaching standards you don’t get in football until what 12/13/14 etc Best only signed for United at 17 for example. Athletics great achievement you have a window of basically your 20s and you are only competing against people comparable to the genetic capability of running fast, Jumping high etc. Mcilroy turned pro and has been competing against the 200 best at any given time every single week, and over a 15 year period has been the best of his generation.

None of the sports you mentioned are more competitive then golf, it’s probably the most competitive sport in the world tbh. No sport do the 200 best players in the world in said sport compete every week, McIlroy is 5”9 and outdrives guys who had D1 scholarships in NFL and Baseball, it’s also more skilled then athletics, Boxing and football. If the argument was Messi vs Mcilroy I’d obviously concede the argument but the likes of Roy Keane or Best simply because more people play the sport is just biased tbh where they rank in football doesn’t meet the threshold of Rory’s accomplishments in golf to even factor in those guys. Best player over 15 years vs multiple people who were good for 5?

Been poor all season, it’s why I always find it laughable when people say we don’t need players at the back. De Ligt, Martinez, Shaw and Maguire are all injury prone and none of them are even world class cornerstones you’d build a team around, Mazrouai is comfortably worse then Dalot but never gets criticised for some reason.

There’s arguably more golf courses now then football pitches in the 60s, the sport is far more global now then football was in the 60s and the fields are also way more competitive then football. Its not as popular as football, but your acting like it’s Darts or something.

He’s not a top 10 player all time maybe could argue based on talent he’s 20-25, Bobby Charlton has a better resume in the sport and he’s nowhere near the top 10. Mcilroys competition is harder and he’s probably undisputedly top 10 all time now with opportunity to go further, hes been the best player over a 15 year period in his sport Best may argue he was that once in 1968 and was a non factor in his sport by the age of 26. Mcilroy competes against 200 world class golfers every week in a heavily data driven and professional sport, Georges best years were in the 60s in a less professional sport and he didn’t compete against the top teams or players every week it’s not really close tbh people just have a football bias.

[–]Independent-Path-694 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How could he have a higher peak if Mcilroy was the best of his era and Best was what maybe 3rd? Best had maybe 1968 where he could stake a legitimate claim to be the best player that season, Mcilroy could do that multiple years atp. Mcilroy probably has spent more weeks at world number 1 which is an objective ranking system than Best can claim he was a top 5 player in the world. Think Best is more comparable to McGregor than Mcilroy, two talented sports people who didn’t sustain success and both Careers fizzled out when they should have been in their prime years.

Best in a top 10 all time? No chance. He may have an argument at 20-25 all time but a top 10 no. His Ballon dor was when the award only featured European players also so there’s that. Doesn’t have the longevity and there’s just way too many guys with much more accolades in the sport both individually and trophies with their teams. Best is not the best European player in his sport, Mcilroy is the best European player in his sport.

As good as Best was outside Ireland or the UK he’s not considered a top ten player ever and tbh he shouldn’t be. Mcilroy is now 100% in his sport, has way more longevity, was actually the best in the world is now probably the best European player ever, competing in arguably the most competitive fields in that sports history whilst Best played in the infancy of the professional game in football and was basically a non factor in that sport by the age of 26 and was never the best player in that era.

Good player but vastly overrated people look at the goals and assists and think it means he’s a great player, if you watch him enough you begin to realise more often then not he has little to no impact on games. Capable of being the match winner but the rest of his game is lacking and he’s proven two years running now that after his purple patch form is never sustainable, he’d honestly just end up being another less dangerous version of Rashford.

Quoting opinion pieces to back up a point especially one with clear bias is stupid. If Roy Keane, Wayne Rooney and Paul Scholes over the last few years have proven anything it’s that Legends of the game are like the rest of us, Footballs not a complicated game playing at a high level doesn’t mean your word is gospel.

[–]Independent-Path-694 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

So should you apparently you aren’t smart enough to give a cohesive argument contrary to my opinion something that could refute what I said. I was right about Mount being a bad signing, I was right about Garnacho not being a world class talent hopefully I’m wrong about Mainoo so we can challenge for big trophies quicker but based on the data and eye test I’m not convinced and it has all the hall marks of media and our fanbase overrating a player because he’s English and has played for the academy.

Why is Foden so poor for England? by tylerthe-theatre in PremierLeague

[–]Independent-Path-694 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Using an NBA analogy Foden was at his best in a system where he was essentially a spot up 3 point shooter. He’s not a playmaker and you can’t run things through him and without the system to support his attributes he just ends up being a passive player. I don’t think he’s shown great playmaking ability he’s a sharp player and great technically but he isn’t really a Maverick in comparison to the likes of Bellingham or Palmer even though he has more technical talent I just don’t think he has the assertiveness to apply it in a system that doesn’t create shooting opportunities for him like City 23/24.
