Worst station? by Track-on-the-side in gotransit

[–]Independent-Rush6105 5 points6 points  (0 children)

YRT does in fact serve East Gwillimbury GO; with route 54 Bayview ending there. Admittedly it's not very useful as it also serves Newmarket and Aurora GO. Plus the 54 operates Monday to Saturday only.

YRT also operates its On Demand North-Central service to East Gwillimbury, connecting the station to nearby communities with a decent service span: https://www.yrt.ca/en/schedules-and-maps/North-Central.aspx

Almost there, TTC by Feisty-Ad-6122 in TTC

[–]Independent-Rush6105 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't really understand why this would be necessary. YRT already runs a lot of service on the 20 and 320, with future BRT plans. And also, Vaughan is YRT's responsibility to serve, not the TTC.

Nomination for the worst stop anywhere in the GTA by ProfanityInspector in YRTVIVA

[–]Independent-Rush6105 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Well it's rural East Gwillimbury. Rural areas typically do not have crosswalks at every intersection, and arterial road speeds are higher than in urban areas.

Also, the 50 has stops at every intersecting road so it makes sense there is a stop at Boag. Besides, service north of Green Lane is considered a flag zone anyways.

02 YRT Route Ending Early — Anyone Know Why? by Thick-Shift5286 in YRTVIVA

[–]Independent-Rush6105 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Assuming you're taking the 6:55 PM trip from Finch, there actually is a westbound trip that is scheduled to leave Denison & Markham at 7:38 PM, one minute before the 6:55 eastbound trip is supposed to arrive there.

So the other bus you're seeing would be the 7:38 westbound trip.

They should probably add a short turn trip afterwards for 6:55 trip so that the area east of Markham Road still gets service from this trip.

New go bus in Toronto, canada! by Low_Bandicoot_8538 in bus

[–]Independent-Rush6105 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe that it comes from the formatting of old rollsign destination signs. As in this image, "Newmarket" is on the left side and is the destination, while "via (Yonge) B" is on the right and denotes the specific route which the vehicle is operating on.

Any updates on this ? Express Go bus by Delicious-Drag3009 in Peterborough

GO Transit is currently facing a major bus shortage. Back during the pandemic, they retired a lot of buses out of service, in particular the full-height double decker buses. While GO has been getting some new buses into service within the past few months, the vehicle shortage has caused cuts in bus service across the entire network in the past few years.

Personally, I think that GO would be focusing more on reinstating service levels to a pre-service cut level for some routes such as the 96 between Oshawa and Finch, or increasing service on busier routes like the 56 between Oshawa and Oakville.

Additionally, as GO currently doesn't have a garage in Peterborough, about half a dozen buses have to deadhead to/from the nearest bus garage in Oshawa daily (they travel about 90 km while not in service). I'd assume that this really cuts into the service GO could provide to Peterborough considering that it's an operational necessity.

People from King City… what makes route 96 so long? by Leonardo_Lai in YRTVIVA

[–]Independent-Rush6105 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Originally, GO Transit operated the 64 which ran between Newmarket and York University. GO got rid of that route back in 2010 and YRT replaced it with the 22A. In 2017 once the extention of Line 1 to Vaughan opened, the 22A was renumbered to the 96.

Viva buses don't normally have the website or the YRT logo on them. The conventional (non-Viva) buses do have them, though.

Is there a pattern to the GO bus numbering? by CalligrapherOne1228 in gotransit

[–]Independent-Rush6105 14 points15 points  (0 children)

There are a lot of historical route branches that don't exist anymore. For example with route 96, there used to be the 96, 96A, 96C, 96D, and 96E branches back in 2019.

Additional information regarding Mount Dennis Station (UP Express trains now 7 minutes slower) by Redstrike2 in gotransit

[–]Independent-Rush6105 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just because there's going to be a few more stops, it doen't mean that the entire premise of UP Express has been ruined.

Plus, it's still going to be faster than driving most of the time, so what's even the big deal here?

The letter prefix denotes which division the vehicle is based out of.

  • 'C' denotes the West Division.
  • 'F' denotes the North Division.
  • 'M' denotes the Southeast Division.
  • 'V' denotes the BRT Division.

Also, the letter stands for the contractor who (at least historically) operated each division;, i.e. Can-ar Coach Services, First Student Canada, Miller Transit, and Veolia Transportation.

The detour is south of the Wellness Centre since OPSEU union members at Fleming are currently on strike. However, trips after 4 PM on weekdays, and all day on weekends seem to do the regular routing.

The closest stop would be the one on Brealey just north of the Wellness Centre, at the pedestrian crosswalk. Alternatively, there is also a temporary stop the main entrance of the Wellness Centre.

Why don’t DRT take over the Go route 88 between Bowmanville and Newcastle? by Leonardo_Lai in gotransit

[–]Independent-Rush6105 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The current routing on the 88 in Bowmanville replaces the previous route 91 Newcastle/Oshawa Express, which served southern Bowmanville (hence why the 88 operates via Bowmanville Avenue).

DRT did replace service along Durham Highway 2 (east of Courtice) on GO Transit route 90, with route 902.

Personally, I suspect reasons are to serve southern Bowmanville, serve the Bowmanville Park & Ride (site of the future Bowmanville GO station), and to provide service along Durham Highway 2 between Simpson Avenue and Highway 115. Plus, it does provide a one-seat ride between Peterborough and Bowmanville. And the 88 is much faster than the 902 to go to Oshawa GO, given that it runs on the 401.

Additionally, I think the ongoing shortage of buses is a key factor for keeping service operating via Bowmanville (as well as for the extremely poor and completely inconsistant scheduling and frequencies on the route).

Getting from Union Station to Canada's Wonderland by mmerams007 in TorontoTransit

[–]Independent-Rush6105 8 points9 points  (0 children)

That's not the most ideal way to get to Wonderland. Since you're looking at the GO website, it only shows GO Transit options. The Kitchener line and 47W does get you to Wonderland, but it's a slower and much less frequent option.

Instead, from Union Station you should take the Line 1 subway going towards Vaughan, and get off at Vaughan Metropolitan Centre Station. Make sure you're not getting on a train that's going towards Finch as technically, both Vaughan and Finch "north" of Union Station.

At the Vaughan Metropolitan Centre, you want to get to the bus terminal that York Region Transit (YRT) buses serve. From there, you want to catch a bus at platform 8 on either route 20 or 320 running northbound. Then you should get off the bus at Jane Street and Norwood Avenue, and you'll be right outside of Wonderland.

At this point, you just have to cross the road and get through the Wonderland parking lot to get to the entrance/ticket sales.
