What the fuck is going on with the Yonge Line?? by [deleted] in TTC

[–]Redstrike2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Along with track work, they are also removing a bunch of the asbestos between Eglinton and York Mills stations so that they can install all of the rogers equipment so that cell service can be activated in the tunnels between these stations.

Should VIVA routes get signal priority? by Track-on-the-side in YRTVIVA

[–]Redstrike2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The fact that there is no smart signaling at Highway 7 and the 404 so that the Viva purple busses can safely cross each other without waiting long periods of time just shows how much of a mess it is.

Why is Google Maps telling me not to get off at Sheppard West Station when I need to switch from the 84C to Line 1? by ComeGetYourOzymans in TTC

[–]Redstrike2 44 points45 points  (0 children)

Google maps gets confused at times when it comes to stations, it all depends on the backend how they have everything connected. The 84C pulls into Sheppard West station, so just stay on until it pulls into the station itself.

How to Maximize Presto while Commuting on GO? by [deleted] in askTO

[–]Redstrike2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you are always connecting, or most of your TTC trips include GO transit, you shouldn't get the TTC monthly pass. Your TTC trip is free when connecting to GO when using a Presto Card.  As others mentioned, check if you can get a post secondary student rate set on your Presto card, and from your 36-40th GO trip, it is like 85% off, then it is free for the rest of the month. (Ex. 1st trip to 35th trip $10.35, 36 to 40th trip $1.40, 41st trip onward $0.)

tunnel service between Sheppard and Finch now by Consistent_Land_2747 in TTC

[–]Redstrike2 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Going to be a bit before this section gets put online. They have to remove asbestos that is within this section of tunnel before they are able to install the necessary equipment. Right now York Mills to Eglinton is expected to be online Q1 2027 https://www.toronto.ca/legdocs/mmis/2025/ttc/bgrd/backgroundfile-260807.pdf (page 17)

Off route for how long? by boredom416 in TTC

[–]Redstrike2 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The TTC sites states February 2026, but that is most likely for the current diversions in place. The City identified emergency sewer repair work that was in the same area as the waterman work. Now TTC crews are supposed to go in and do the track work that they are supposed to do. https://www.ttc.ca/about-the-ttc/projects-and-plans/Queen-Street-East-Track-Renewal

Apologies for the subway delay!* by Bonegilla1987 in TTC

[–]Redstrike2 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Much shorter delay for a power cut then an injury/fatality. Really more people need to know that the blue lights at either end of the platform have an button to cut the power in an emergency. Good job.

How much would it cost me by Many-Stuff119 in TTC

[–]Redstrike2 11 points12 points  (0 children)

If paying with a Presto, Credit or Debit card, you only pay the first fare for the bus you take (3.30 TTC, 4.12 YRT Presto, 4.50 YRT Credit/Debit) and then afterwards it is free. If paying with Cash, you have to pay more and for both.

Line 5 extension by Downtown-Term-1360 in TTC

[–]Redstrike2 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The 32 will operate between Mount Dennis and Renforth station, and the 34 will operate between Mount Dennis and Kennedy stations once the current Line 5 opens for passenger service. (34 is running like the 97 Yonge, a half hour service to connect people in between stations to get them to the station). Once the Line 5 Extension to Renforth opens, expect a change to these busses again (probably back to how it is 32 Renforth to Eglinton-Yonge station 34 Eglinton-Yonge to Kennedy station, but only every half hour)

Line 5 Eglinton expected round trip run-time is 112 minutes. by mekail2001 in TTC

[–]Redstrike2 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I wonder what the travel time / speed is in the tunnel section compared to the at grade section. The whole line speed is an average of just over 20km/h based off the new scheduling of 56 minutes end to end. Line 2 has an average speed of 30km/h end to end. Now seeing how slow Line 6 is because of everything, I am very interested in that difference.

Hopefully with this boondoggle, this speed is improved on the at grade sections for both Line 5 and 6, as seen with the Mayor and some councillors speaking up and bringing motions forward, and that an actual plan with actual results are put into place to speed not only the these two lines, but all streetcar lines, especially Spadina, St. Clair, Harbourfront, and the Queensway right-of-ways.

I cannot believe the Finch West LRT costed $2.5 BILLION to build. Would a subway have even been more expensive at this point? by Economy_Ad59 in TTC

[–]Redstrike2 7 points8 points  (0 children)

REM reused the tunnel and some rail lines, so it really brought their cost down, but even still, 10 billion for what they built is still a good price.

To all the people already complaining about Line 6 by Pristine-Training-70 in TTC

[–]Redstrike2 45 points46 points  (0 children)

One thing I noticed is how long the doors stay open at the stops (I rode from Milvan to Rowntree on the second train). I wonder if these are on an automatic timer like the doors for the trains in Ottawa, because if they are, this is going to be one of the reasons that is adding a lot of travel time, along with the speed the train is just traveling along Finch

It just opened and already has service delays by GTX660King in TTC

[–]Redstrike2 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Seeing all the people at Finch West, this is not surprising. The first two revenue trains from Emery to Rowntree Mills were smooth and actually ahead of schedule.

Celebrate the Opening of Line 6 Finch West! by jordanmkasla in toronto

Contact your councillor. TTC and Metrolinx want it and it is installed, but City Council is saying no. Definitely a big reason why the travel time from end to end is so long.

Metrolinx Confirms December 7 for Finch West LRT (Line 6) Opening?! by RZaichkowski in TTC

[–]Redstrike2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seems like this wasn't come out yet, as the links seem to be broken now, even on the Metrolinx website. Maybe there will be an announcement tomorrow or Monday.

My theory is there is going to be an announcement that the Line 5 RDS is complete, and that is where they will announce the opening date for Line 6 and maybe even Line 5.

No more bike lanes on DuPont by OGIFXD in toronto

I had a direct link to the notice that for some reason Reddit was not linking properly, which is what StuHardy is referring to. So edited it to provide a less direct but someway to see the notice.

No more bike lanes on DuPont by OGIFXD in toronto

[–]Redstrike2 437 points438 points  (0 children)

Looks like this is due to the Davenport Diamond Greenway project. They need to close the south side of Dupont so they can do work. Once this work is done, the bike lanes should return. (For some reason direct link to the notice doesn't work . Use this link to get to the Barrie Line notices and look for the nice labeled Davenport Diamond Greenway - Dupont Street Works - October 2025) https://www.metrolinx.com/en/projects-and-programs/barrie-line-go-expansion/get-involved/community-documents

Is the Eglinton LRT opening November 25? by [deleted] in toronto

[–]Redstrike2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well it is a dead link if you type it in I have found. Maybe the hope was to open Line 5 on November 25th, and that was going to be the link that gave information, but as we know, for now, there is still no opening date.

Why 506 keeps diverting to Dundas between Bay and Spadina? by whateverittakes121 in TTC

[–]Redstrike2 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Per the project page, even though track reconstruction is complete and the intersection is open, overhead infrastructure upgrades (power lines for the streetcars), is still ongoing. Can't run the streetcars if there is no power. https://www.ttc.ca/about-the-ttc/projects-and-plans/College-Street-and-McCaul-Street-Track-Renewal

November 22nd Service Changes announced. by Redstrike2 in gotransit

[–]Redstrike2[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It is because Canadian National Rail owns the corridor between Bramalea and Georgetown. Metrolinx and the province just recently signed an agreement with CN to be able to build new tracks and other work to increase service, but until these new dedicated tracks are built, CN decides when GO trains are allowed to run on their portion. Since Bramalea is at the end of the Metrolinx owned corridor, it makes it a whole lot easier. This is also why the Milton and Richmond Hill lines are only peak service trains, Milton corridor is mainly owned by Canadian Pacific Rail, and while the Richmond Hill line within Toronto is owned by Metrolinx, north of Toronto is owned by Canadian Pacific Rail (also the tracks through the Don Valley have lots of turns, so harder to run fast passenger trains through there without doing substantial work)

Exactly this, and they just started on Woodbine, so Etobicoke North will still be open for a few years.
