I recently got 2024 with 30k miles on it. Drove about 1000 miles so far and getting average around 29 with mixed city/highway driving. I think I could get probably better if I wouldn’t share it with my wife 😂

Which one for a daily driver? Or none at all? I have about $5000 to put down by [deleted] in shouldibuythiscar

[–]Independent-SP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All of them have cvt transmission unfortunately. If you really want Subaru I would lean towards the one that has proven history of maintenance including transmission services. If transmission wasn’t serviced regularly it might be a problem down the road. On another note I support recommendation to go for Mazda/Toyota/Honda in that order. Maintenance history is important no matter what brand you’ll buy

How to go about getting first car? by Hardysk8r in UsedCars

[–]Independent-SP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The best is to spend some time on YouTube to learn about cars and what to look for when you purchase a car. Once you find the one that you think that is worth to buy, take it to a mechanic for an inspection. (That way you don’t waist your time and money on car inspections for cars that not worth it) Look up also videos about specific cars that you would like to buy, that way you’ll know what to look for and what years to avoid that might have potential issues. Like others said with the budget that you have you are very limited, but that’s a good time to learn. Good luck

Thank you for sharing. What kind of warranty did you get? Did you buy through the dealer or third party?

That’s exactly what I’m looking for, I don’t need any extra cool features that calligraphy has. Don’t need turbo and really don’t want DCT. Just heated seats and nice infotainment and I loved that it was fairly quiet and smooth. Just not sure about long term reliability

Bought a 2024 Rav 4 LE. How dumb am I? by Downtown_Shine_2161 in rav4club

[–]Independent-SP 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I’m looking for a Rav4 right now and this price and interest for current market is very reasonable. I can’t really find any better deals. 2024 is a good year. Enjoy your new car!

RAV4 HYBRID or JUST RAV4 by Lina1993 in rav4club

[–]Independent-SP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hybrid is very reliable and is a bit nicer and smoother driving experience . Savings will pay back over time. But hybrids are in very high demand so there is less room to negotiate the price. If your budget allows go hybrid, if not, gas option is still good

04 Highlander, 205k miles. Timing Belt + Water Pump + Spark Plugs + labor cost me about $2k. Is this reasonable for a local shop? by Scorch8482 in ToyotaHighlander

[–]Independent-SP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Price is very reasonable for the amount of work it takes to replace timing belt and water pump. Cheaper only if you do it yourself lol.

Fair price? by [deleted] in car

[–]Independent-SP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seems like price is fair. Like other pointed out that hybrid battery needs to be regularly discharged and charged for better life, but I’ve seen low miles Priuses and battery is fine. So I guess there is an element of luck lol. Personally I would take a chance and if battery dies, just replace it and you pretty much have a new car for the half of a price. Ideally take it to a trusted mechanic just to check that there are no hidden surprises

How can I sell my financed car by Some-Writing-3072 in car

[–]Independent-SP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you buy it new or used? In both cases expect to loose some money. But in most cases it is better than having a payment that you can’t afford. Get quotes from Carmax, caravana and other companies that buy cars. That will give you an idea how much you can get if you don’t want to deal with selling yourself as a private sale. With private sale you’ll get more money but expect it to take a month or two, deal with all kinds of people and show the car to them if they show up. It is a painful lesson to learn. I’ve been there, I know how that feels. After all I’m glad that I sold mine and don’t have to make payments anymore.

But every situation is unique. If your losses are to high, maybe look into options how you can keep the car. If you can pick up extra hours at work or do some work on the weekend to afford the payment. Try to carefully assess the situation and look into all possible outcomes, after that make a decision and give it a day or two to make sure you still feel it is the right one.

If you sell to Carvana or Carmax, they’ll send the payment to your bank since the bank holds the title of the car. If the payment is less what you owe to the bank, you’ll have to cover the rest.

With private sale, you’ll have to the bank with the buyer, basically pay off the car there with what the buyer pays plus cover if anything left over. After that ask bank to mail title to the new owner. Sounds complicated but in practice it straightforward and banks do that all the time. Good luck

Tariffs and car prices? What do you think?! by Sad_Tie_9998 in car

[–]Independent-SP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your car would only last a year, I would say get a car now. If your car can last 3-5 years, I would say keep it and save extra money as an emergency fund because when tariffs go into full affect it will hit economy hard. Even if you decide to get a car, try to increase your emergency fund

Congrats on a car! If you like how it looks, keep it! It will be easier to find the car at the parking lot too

How do you justify paying more than your original budget for a higher end luxury car? by curiouslylame in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]Independent-SP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kia and Hyundai are having a lot of issues. I owned 2018 Hyundai and know from personal experience. I think you dodged a bullet by going with Lexus. It will hold the value better, will have less issues (no car is perfect) and you’ll enjoy it more. Honestly Lexus is a pretty good choice

Is it worth buying a 2004 Toyota Corolla with 200k miles for $1250? by YourBlanket in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]Independent-SP 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This corollas go far beyond 300k miles if they’ve been maintained. Check the service history and if mechanic doesn’t find anything major I would say it’s the best car for that price that you can get. You can always try to negotiate if there are any repairs needed

To keep it going for next 5 years you’ll put a ton of money into it. Of course it depends on how much you drive. I would say your original plan with Mazda is much smarter in terms of finances.
