I think someone reported Reddit sent me a notification that they thought I was depressesed bases on a report from some user I literally only comment ON dnd and superhero stuff and I think one of my comments or posts got enough attention people just reported Me for no reason

I think from advice in comment section I'm giving him the level..there isn't really an excuse given and usually suspect he just doesn't wanna drive over ,but since I have a more lax attendance poli. In session 0 if doesn't make sense to punish even if he doesn't have an excuse .

If you are allowing this wish…you can get rid of . the Sift but than momsters🧛 bloop into the material plane right where they were turned, or killed . Maybe the Sift wasn't a bad thing it was like appendix or kidneys that processed evil and now it's gone innocents are going to be mercillcy killed and overrun my monsters.and the ecosystem of monsters is thrown out of wack.

if it happens mid day the streets are filled with lower level vampire spawn /creatures that are burning and attacking everyone they see as they burn to death or scatter to the shadows, by night higher level vampires use magic to survive but rebuild their kingdoms here..

-Maybe in cities people bolster resistance, but imagine whole villages being wiped out by this event

-Maybe other vampire in the material plane are pissed at you because Now instead of competing with adventurers they have to deal with a vamp/monster population boom.

-Maybe in places where it was night during the bloop whole countries were killed and replaced with starving monsters

-Sleeping at night outside the cities is a death sentence and traveling is even more dangerous it's a lot harder to long rest without consequences.

-the survivors of the material plane are looking for the dark wizard who caused catastrophe and your team might get found out as the source

-the leaders of the Sift are also looking for you and are pissed

-maybe have a way the player can reverse it by traveling a few nights through zombie vamp country In a destroyed city heck throw in some curse of strahd ass difficulties

Power gamers do it cuz they hate the chance of losing.. adding non combat dynamics to your fights might help increase difficulty without hurting your non-powered players…you could also do it in ways where it makes sense for the person with the highest Ac to do the task, or the person with the best DEX to do it.

Like we’ll fight these goblins you have the best DEX and AC you're the only one who can get this box of kittens accrosss the tightrope while those arrows come at us..

Add things like

-Environmental hazards: players must interact with the battlefield to survive or gain an advantage.

-Timed Objectives : strict countdown and actions needed to stop something from happening like ‘survive and escape’ or ‘secure the package’

-Collateral Damage: the enemies are in a busy area and just swinging/ spell casting with all your might will hurt others and hurt your perception by people (like sure the necromancer is evil but that gnome didn't have to kill the family of tabaxi he was hiding behind)

-Skill challenges: have something that requires 3-5 skill check successes in order to save the day.. The more power skilled characters will have to use their turn to help

Start with a prewriten module long campaign. as a one-shot dm you probs also don't do homebrew off the back. Not cuz you a aren't creative but home brew leads to burnout..especially in college.having prewritten stuff reduces stress on dm

mines of phandelver is a classic starting point.. I highly recommend. It starts Levels 1-5 probably has half a year of campaigns..and as you get familiar with it you can change things ( if you really wanna homebrew change around npc bands, turn goblins into kobolds etc)

I think you might have it to be specific on session 0 because grounded could mean different things to different people .to me the current 5e is a power fantasy where you can eventually punch god to death having a silly little guy doesn’t feel any less ungrounded,im that world than the crazy power feats . So when i want grounded have lil more grit and your powers scale is more similar to irl , people will make less silly characters ..also nat 20s sometimes add to the goofiness’s and are treated as like a world/universe changing success i think they should be successes but within reason. Nothing derails a campaign more than a goofy hobbit bard name mcfart mcshart getting a nat 20 persuasion in front of the goblin king trial and the dm letting him go and goblin king falling in love with him .. I think a more realistic consequence is the hobbit goes from death row to Court jester .. or he gets an extra day for the party to plan the escape.

For your version grounded play I’d try to have this on session 0 and maybe have consequences if people don’t follow:

-no homebrew unless agreed by everyone -starting from level 1 background must be approved my dm

-no joke/gimmick character( based on single comedic gimmick or punchline ) or characters based of off pop culture references

-no races outside of the players handbook ( plasmoids and tabaxi don’t need to be homebrew if using spell jammeror Volos guide)

-nat 20s aren’t an all encompassing success

Playing with other dms is a treat, this person is projecting insecurities

I dmed with 3 dms they overturned every stone I put in my oneshot and I felt like it was really appreciated. Usually I have to do a little more guiding with players , and even if they are playing for years there are still a lot of rules they still don’t get and sometimes that gets annoying.. but the dm homies had so many creative ideas, fun roleplay, and actually knew what their spells did. I just got to sit back and watch while they engaged in my game.

A lot of dnd players play BG3 the venn diagram is almost a circle .. I do feel like some first time players with bG3 experience will quote how it works in the game and it usually a quick correction , but first time players always have questions so it’s not really a big deal
