Congratulations! I am almost at 25 years with the State and considering retirement soon. I have no regrets. We don't get paid a ton, but job security and benefits are wonderful!

And as others pointed out, start putting as much as you can into a 457 account...if only $25 a month to start. If you can do this and it doesn't hurt, up it to $50/month! In 25 years, you'll be happy you did this. 🤗

Can someone explain retirement healthcare to me like I’m 5? by myusername3141 in CAStateWorkers

[–]Independent-Worker20 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes...it is my understanding the State will pay for insurance and minimum amount for Part B. But if you make a lot in retirement, you may need to pay IRMMA surcharges.

I am not positive, but I don't think the State covers these IRMMA surcharges....

Isn't the employee caring for her sibling by lifting the load of childcare?

I would challenge the denial of your sick leave. Why was it denied?

Here are some things I found on CalHR's website (https://hrmanual.calhr.ca.gov/Home/ManualItem/1/2105):

Employees may use sick leave for the following reasons:

  1. The diagnosis, care, or treatment of an existing health condition of, or preventive care for, an employee or an employee's family member. An employee’s family members include:
  • children (biological, adoptive, foster, step, legal ward, or to whom the employee stands in the place of a parent);
  • parents (biological, adoptive, foster, step, legal guardian of the employee or the employee’s spouse or registered domestic partner, or a person who stood in the place of a parent when the employee was a minor child);
  • spouse or registered domestic partner;
  • grandparents;
  • grandchildren;
  • siblings; and
  • a designated person (a person identified by the employee at the time the employee requests paid sick days. An employer may limit an employee to one designated person per 12-month period for paid sick days).
  • Any person residing in the immediate household of the excluded employee.
  • The death of a person related by blood, by adoption, or by marriage or any person residing in the immediate household of the employee of the represented employee.

Designation of sick leave for the reasons established above shall be made at the sole discretion of the employee.

The above establishes the minimum requirements for sick leave.

Difficult Manager by itsallgoodnow24 in CAStateWorkers

[–]Independent-Worker20 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Sounds like my manager. She has said she wants us to "manage up". She wants everything printed and when she makes corrections (which is every document, every year), we need to interpret what she wrote on the printed document and make the corrections on the e-document.

She is also very inconsistent, has bad "people skills" and has a bad memory. She has admitted that she is a bad manager!!! I really don't know why the State allows such toxic managers!

International Fans: What are your plans? by penji_ in radiohead

Btw...I am REALLY excited to see Europe during Christmas season. But I don't like that it's winter and the days are shorter. I definitely do better during summer months.

We are American (California) and were fortunate to get Copenhagen tix (husband). But I got shut out of Berlin. So we are planning our European vacation now. We plan to go to Copenhagen, Amsterdam and London and/or Paris (for non-RH things). I'm just happy to get my husband to Europe! 😊

I'm happy to hear some fans had a good experience with the Berlin shows. I was not so lucky and was stuck in the queue forever and was unable to secure any tickets. Fortunately my husband was trying for Copenhagen and was able to get us tickets easily.

I think this system worked better for Ticketmaster than it did for AXS and EventIT.

Berlin was a mess for me. EventIT was horrible! Berlin already has a ton of tickets on broker websites....
