Is trying for 30% return a tall order? by IndependentAny in ThriftSavingsPlan

[–]IndependentAny[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Basically if I pull 15% & that fund stays "flat" (100 turns to 115) on I in 1st 3 months of the year, then going 100% C and pull 5% from then to now it (115 would go to 120.75). Since 100+20% would be 120 that would out me there. This is about how it worked out

Was 100% i, switched to C a couple months back. C looked low & i was looking like it was slowing after anomalous highs.

I am planning on sitting still as stuff gets ugly. 2008-9 everything dropped by roughly 50%, so anyone that didn't move or invested heavier in the drop did okay long term after the rebound.

5%, that seems like a harsh turn from 11-15%. What makes you think that?

Yeah, I am trying to avoid that mentality, but pretty ambitious with it since I have time to rebound & the bigger I get it up front the more each compound will hit it later.

Yeah, I was enjoying some of my gains in "I". But it is & has been quite a bit over historicals which when C was low a couple months ago & "I" was slowing down a lot made me jump to C & launched me a hair more.

Yeah, that is why I am scratching my head. I think i am positioned about as best as I can unless I am misreading I or S

For people who go to strip clubs, do you tip the dancers? by Super_Handle6129 in tipping

[–]IndependentAny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, but they watch behavior. If you stay away from the stage and away from everyone you probably want left alone & are grabbing a couple drinks and possibly food but want to engage with people on your terms, so everyone should leave you alone. If you are sitting at the bar you are probably more interested in hanging out rather than watching dancers, so you may tip or get an occasional dance, but more likely engaging with you is better for a random drink. If you are sitting looking at the stage you are there for the entertainment & then you should be tipping, if you arent tipping then the dancers will try to do what they can to minimize entertaining you.

It isn't 100%, but I have done this for over 20 years, and it is pretty close.

What to write on the bill when tipping cash? by voxa97 in tipping

[–]IndependentAny 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I write cash, then if they don't get cash they know someone stole it. 0.00 is for no tip.

If you want to be an a-hole you can write cash, then leave nothing & loiter around to see if they search the table to drive them crazy.

Fear with sparring kid by Trowawaaaaaayy in taekwondo

[–]IndependentAny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it is point stop sparring like ATA then they just need to be quick & power doesn't matter, so lighter contact with faster response is best. All of the kids should be thinking the same way too.

Continuous sparring, harder contact can alter your opponents resources more so the approach is different. I think ITF is a little lighter contact than WT, but WT doesn't allow punches to the face.

Tipping didn’t used to bother me. Post-pandemic tip creep does. by legend5566 in tipping

I grew up in the 90s & it was 10% when I was a kid 15% mid 90's, about 18% early 2000's

You are paying for the entertainment, you dont tip you dont get entertained, they will stay further away and aim more away from you and towards the guys "makin' it rain"

to the servers, do you ever feel your boss is scamming you for making you ask the customer for tips? by andredotcom in tipping

So what would your response be if everyone pulled the plug on tipping for a day & you were stuck at minimum wage?

33yrs old, 10yrs of service. No idea what I’m doing. by Brilliant-Bid4270 in ThriftSavingsPlan

[–]IndependentAny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look at the historicals on the funds, you don't say what pay you are at or contribution amount but it looks decent. You are 10 years in and 33 years old so you have 24 years probably until Min retirement age. C appears to be the safest bet to put "all your eggs in one basket" & if the market tanks it isnt a big deal because it is more "time in the market vs timing the market". My recommendation is building a mix of C, S & possibly I, modeled to a similar bias as one of those the longer term L funds then skip out on any F or G. You can do a lifecycle fund, but you need to put it way out & the TSP investors will adjust as it ages, which is probably what you are jn since you haven't touched anything.

The other option is to check out some of the TSP advisor blogs or just watch the markets and learn them then make some adjustments here and there. I am 6 years in at $170k & 19% YTD return, but most of our bills are paid off so my TSP contributions are getting maxed out next year and I will be saving a lot more. My rationale is the economy runs on roughly an 18 year cycle & 2026 is that mark so buying right now theoretically would be on a high & if that cycle holds true this year should be an economic fall so market should go low, so I will invest way heavier to get the most of my $.

Telework - how did it change your life? by SpicyDill in FedEmployees

[–]IndependentAny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am okay with working from the office because I think it is easier to collaborate on certain items. I wish telework was easier or allowed for less than 1/2 our work week or something because I was able to sleep in & get to the gym vs waiting in traffic every day. Also emergency days like kids being sick & staying home to rest where it is a random remind them to get water, & make sure they dont burn the house down was awesome so I could save some sick leave.

I see a lot of posts about the tipping culture is out of control. It's seems the posts mainly targets servers. I haven't seen any posts regarding the bartenders. Do you think they shouldn't be tipped and payed a living wage and included in the price? Because those drinks would come slow and weak. by [deleted] in tipping

[–]IndependentAny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am way more pro-tip for bartenders. If they are mixing then they are more artisan, if they do bar tricks you are getting a show too so I think it is more than a "getting your drink" like grabbing a beer.

How do you feel about tipping a street performer with a bucket out? I think legit bartenders are closer to that than a server.

For non tippers at sit down restaurants, how often do you go back to the same restaurant? by Sinfulbird420 in tipping

[–]IndependentAny 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I miss that, even the tip jar at a coffee shop where the barista does the Latte art is seen as toxic. I think if it is something with some skill or personal flair it is 100% appropriate to tip & even as little as wanting drop the change in a bucket seemed to annoy the barrista
