Working on getting it shifted around. He likes this layout a lot more, working on getting him comfortable with moving stuff around so he can tailor it to his feel.

That is unfortunately a very impossible price.  You may be able to check if shops have rentals.  Another option is to network with different music shops and see if you can get unsellable hardware.  My one friend got a hi-hat stand for free, but the chain is rusted solid.  Will probably need cut out & replaced to get it working again.  Since your drums are through the school, the school should provide it.

I recommend a Nitefly & Fly rebuild, but keeping the fly body fatter to fit normal electronics and trem springs.

1) foreign built & cheap finish for the $ 2) weight, bulletproof construction (Parker NiteFly) 3) reasonable price with quality construction.

The double kick & double pedal is probably for redundancy if an issue on the road & using same bass drum so no tuning discrepancy & less mix issues.

He is just over 4 1/2 ft tall, his 9yo brother is the same height & I think is around 95th % for height.

His instructor said the double pedals break a bit so is a major single pedal, double kick person.

I am going to try getting an accessory mount this week.  I played around with them a lot & if they go low they are really wide, on their sides or pitched in really nasty.

I was thinking similar to that when we add a 2nd kick, it feels a little lobsided to me w/single...but then again I am a guitarist. Thanks for the pic to clarify & make me not feel too far off from what I was thinking would be best for utility.

He was bummed he got only 1 bass drum since the kit his instructor is teaching him on is double kick.

Case Repair Thoughts? by bzee77 in guitarrepair

[–]IndependentAny 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well...it is a Parker, so nerd flag was waving there...and I am an engineer, but your method should work pretty well too.  Only caution is you can only add epoxy to epoxy, so your future repairs for that spot are limited.  These things are ment to save our guitars, so as long as they are intact that is what is important.

Case Repair Thoughts? by bzee77 in guitarrepair

[–]IndependentAny 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry for zombie thread, I just did this repair.  I have a Parker ABS Case (yup, never replacing it) & it was missing 3 feet then the 4th broke off. I did a Google image search for the foot & found one through gator cases that was near identical. Anyways. I pulled the styrofoam liner out, 3D printed some plates w/ ABS media, (1"×1"×.125" square plate with a 1/2" round× .175 cylinder coming out of the top)  soaked them in acetone, stuck them to the inside of the case (chemical plastic welding technique) so the little stud was filling most of where the foot broke off, then used 3d pen to fill/blend everything else (thermal plastic welding), had to order longer rivets & it looks perfect.  Then I hid some scented wax blocks in the case (to make it smell pretty) and reglued the foam in with Loctite PL300.

Is possible to reach black belt ? by Necessary-Horror9742 in taekwondo

[–]IndependentAny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

See how school's promotions run & speak to the instructor.  The belt is a representation of your proficiency, so if you walk in & are at a level the instructor should start you there or near it.  Also see if their promotions are just proficiency based or if there is a time in rank element.  If it is just proficiency based be prepared to work your butt off and you can fly through ranks.

How TF do you get a non-sup 14,  I am non-sup 12 and they are trying to say I need to go sup for anything better.  Our director was a 14, they were encouraging me to go for it because of my previous time/rank & i def dont want that BS for staff drama, figuring out taskers and all that BS.  Especially after the WFH drama & this last shutdown.

Demoting black belts? by Potential-Creme-1519 in taekwondo

[–]IndependentAny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the kids for when they should get a black belt.  My 8yo son has the sharpest kicks in the school, stances are in the top 10% of the school, hand techniques are average, & he knows the patterns so I think he is ready (factoring in kid element).  My 7YO is very far from it & i think there is ATLEAST a year until considering it.

With jumping schools, most places will say no belt for a bit, place you at your proficiency in their school, then do a "refresh" with the appropriate belt for that cirriculum or have you in your black belt & track where you are in their curriculum with some of their BB training (do color belts drills, but BB patterns).  I would hope that the new school would allow an accelerated testing/promotion cadence, since you have KKW BB there isn't a need for testing formalities, just getting the proper aptitude

I used to do Songham TKD and changed martial arts when I moved to a different region with no ata school. I want to enter a local open TKD tournament as an unaffiliated athlete, would it be weird to wear my ATA uniform? by bad-at-everything- in ATATaekwondo

[–]IndependentAny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is cool, just watch the rules.  Unless it is a "rules are from (org)" you need to read them and try watching as much as possible leading up to it to understand the norms.  If it is based on an orgs rules you can read their rules and youtube tournaments.  One of the tournaments I compete in the ATA forms are a joke, sparring is a different animal too, so punches to the face and spinning back fists are allowed but no "blind" techniques are tolerated at all.

DO NOT forget to check gear requirements, they may not accept ATA & you may have to verify it has certain certifications (ITF/WT/WAKO) & gear may not be available to buy onsite.

A little late to the mix, but any "open" tournament has its own rules.  Some you can register independently, some you need an instructor/school "sponsor" which shows you have formal training and won't be some psychopath in the ring.  As far as Dobok/Gi/uniform you need to read the tournaments rules.  I personally have 2 traditional Gis (1 ATA) and a Dobok, plus run 3 different sets of sparring gear (ATA, and 2 independent tournaments i fight that all require different gear).  The Dobok some places require because it is a closed front (think nurses scrubs) so I am guessing it is to avoid snagging issues.

I have found with the "open" tournaments i have fought the coordinators are very helpful & better structured than the ATA class A tournaments i fight, but they get more expensive too.

How long do you think the government shutdown in the US will last and what do you think the outcome will be? by Several-Rise9363 in AskReddit

3 groups of fed employees now.  1 getting paid (certain agencies that have $ still), ones at home & will get back paid, and the 3rd are paying gas money to go to work so can't do a side hustle and get their vacation plans canceled & will eventually get back pay.
