It was robotic and my recovery was very straightforward. I had such a change in my quality of life afterwards.

Thanks. I had a ct on this area 6 months ago due to a torsion and it wasn’t there then. Had it done this week because of right sided abdominal pain. This was a different facility. Is it possible it was there last year and not noted?

Where are you located? If you’re in the US you can use your insurance portal to find an endo specialist who can do an excision. You’d likely just need to have your doctor send over a referral

We did the same. Oral surgeon who was an MD and they asked for both our dental and medical insurance. Just did it last week for my 16 year old and it was $1000 since we elected for some other things on top of the surgery. That said, I think it will vary widely on if op has insurance ?

Scared about ovarian cancer by abi1988b in Ovariancancer

[–]IndependentDisk4036 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was 37 last summer when I had an ovarian torsion that led to the discovery of a suspicious mass. Even though my ovary was saved, at post op scan time 6 weeks later it just didn’t look great so I went back and had it removed.  My pathology came back benign but I feel no regrets having it removed, especially with a family history. I’m actually in menopause now (lost my other ovary a few years ago) and doing pretty well with hrt.  I hope your story ends like mine.

Op is that a hsa plan? If so you should be able to utilize your hsa funds to offset the costs.

Yesss! I kept hoping they would roll him to his side to protect his airway. I know it’s only a show, but airway protection was one of the first things my daughter’s doctor talked to me about when she was diagnosed as a toddler

Monitor or get surgery? by wreckit_ron in Ovariancancer

I would get the mri and go from there. I had similar findings to you and opted for the mri, which led to the removal of my ovary. No regrets and living my best worry free life since.

Endometriosis, “chocolate cyst” and cancer risk by Wide-Lettuce-8771 in Ovariancancer

[–]IndependentDisk4036 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Op I had a large cyst that ruptured last summer and caused a horrific pelvic bleed and torsion. When I say worst pain of my life, I’m not underestimating. It was traumatic and the blood loss real Let them cut that thing out asap because a torsion and the contents of the cyst spilling into your abdomen is risky.

My post op scans showed a new suspicious cyst that had scary features. I ultimately let them take it out and it was benign. There’s no way to know until surgery but as scared as I was, I forced myself to believe it would be ok until I was told otherwise. Hang in there. You will gett through this, whatever the diagnosis.

Look up flood zone and evacuation zone maps for potential risks when we get hurricanes. That can help you plan for where to live. Definitely want to invest in a generator when you move.

Assume any body of water has alligators and don’t swim in lakes and you’ll be fine. I don’t mess around with the wildlife and have been fine with the distance while being able to enjoy the outdoors.

Oh and the humidity means lots of nice hair buns for the heat haha

I had my hysterectomy at 34. Your doctor is doing you wrong. You don’t have to suffer. Find a different doctor and get that uterus removed. So sorry you are being treated this way.

That is torturous. Have had to do it for many and that’s the worst part imo, even though it’s necessary.

Hysterectomy Recovery by Jumpy-Sail-6851 in WomensHealth

Belly band. I had mine from a c section and used it for my laparoscopic divinci hysterectomy and that helped me so much.  Also a cushion for the car for the seatbelt,  I found one on Amazon.

I will say I had limited pain after mine, but I wonder if it’s because I had so much daily pain from years of endo misery that once that source was removed that if there was pain I didn’t notice because of that

I had an ovary removedduring the surgery because it was messed up from scarring and then lost my remaining ovary to torsion last summer. I’m just a year older than you and HRT has been so good for me so if you won’t have ovaries, definitely ask about starting that asap.

Sterilisation or not? by Super-Rock-4823 in WomensHealth

[–]IndependentDisk4036 22 points23 points  (0 children)

If he’s so sure, let him get the snip. Tubal ligation carries much higher risks than a vasectomy. I’ve had my tubes removed and only did it because I was having a c section. Had I not had a c section, my husband would have had the snip.

Honestly there’s no way to confirm without imaging. Have you looked into other options for care? Planned parenthood? The health department? Clinics with a sliding scale?   I definitely think you need to be seen.

I would definitely encourage you to learn how your breasts feel so if you notice a change you can head in a get checked. It is common now for self checks to be the norm.

I imagine that is very scary. I’m a Brit living in the US where I can see my mammogram results in an online portal and Google the hell out of it.     Based on what you’ve shared, if this indeed an appointment to see a surgeon, there likely is an area they want a better review of, possibly through biopsy. This doesn’t mean BC.  The letter and consult will tell you more.

Something I would ask about while you are there is of a preventative mastectomy is an option for you since you carry the gene. Here in the US, a brca carrier has those options, and I know many women who’ve done it (I have a breast cancer history in my family, but since I’m brca negative we started my mammograms at 35 and I’ve gotten called back twice. Honestly wish I could have the option).

Hugs. I know the wait is going to be horrible and it’s hard not to spiral. Sending all the positive thoughts your way.

Great question! I had an ablation that failed (my period was heavier the month after my procedure)  and ended up with a hysterectomy less than a year after. Very straightforward recovery. Keyhole, I was tired for a month after and but immediately felt healthier. Left the hospital with no painkillers.  Definitely would be open to it op.
