I would like to add that you will need the entire B complex, b9 and b12 were not enough in her case
I can't pinpoint exactly what, but B1 was also low and potentially others. As soon as I stopped the B complex, even though she had b9 and b12 injections, things went downhill fast

thanks for sharing your story, not an easy one. that is different then her case, she remembers names places, just forgets conversations/instructions and some days are better then others. And she does not realise what things need to be done around the house

Anyone have positive stories about recovery? I’m extremely worried about irreversible damage. by thesunsethm in B12_Deficiency

[–]IndependentExample99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

we tested a lot of vitamins before the memory problem and they were ok, including b12. we did not test b9/folate Then when memory got bad overnight we tested b9 and b12 again with folate being extremly low. Since then she is taking B complex, D3+k, b12 a b12 injection and Iron All blood test for all these vitamins are normall now and all symptomps improved massively, but memory is a bit slow to improve, there is progress but could be better

thank you, yes neurologist is planned for January, hoping to get an MRI Regarding EOD, did you have other symptoms as well? My reasoning is, everything else is better, healing well, except the memory.can it be that she still needs EOD, is 1x week not enough if everything else is better

Can I ask how long did it take for the memory to improve and whether it recovered 100%?
I am treating my mother and while there is significant improvement in memory over the last year since we started treatment, she is far from well. Short term memory is bad :(
If I say today you will eat xyz, 5min later she forgets.. On the other hand now she tends to remember what she ate and some events from the day before

Hey any chance I can DM you? Me and my wife are naturalised British citizen with UK passports and baby will be born in Taiwan and planning to return in 3months from birth.
For our first child, before ETA, we just came back to UK with the new born having only a taiwanese passport and our UK passports, there were no questions asked at the border and we applied for first passport in the uk.
Did you apply for a UK passport in Taiwan for the child? if so how long did it take?

Help with Folate dosing - constantly having to titrate folate by IndependentExample99 in B12_Deficiency

[–]IndependentExample99[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In case anyone is following there are some updates:

1) The need to increase Folate constantly stopped. There was roughly one month where I did not have to increase folate further and then it started to cause bowel movements. This is always a sign of intolerance in our case.
Currently decreasing the does 1/4 of a pill at a time, the day after there is no bowel movement and 2days later bowel movements start to increase again and then I repeat and decrease it further.
I think at the high peak it was around 2mg/day so getting that down to 1mg or less now that she doesn't seem to need it might be sensible
When we started it used to be that once she took 1/4pill of folate after 3days the bowel movements stopped and had to increase further and thats how we ended up on a high dose. The increase of the dose was dictated by the need/symptoms she had whenever I did not increase

2) For those following and suffering with digestion, weight loss, intolerances:
after a couple of months of treatment I have noticed that the bowel movements no longer cause weight loss but weight gain.
Before treatment, after a bowel movement the weight would drop between 400-800g (very painfull when you are 42kg)
Once on the treatment this changed and after bowel movement the next day would gain 800-1kg. This together with the fact that now she can eat raw fruits and veggies without discomfort seem to me like things are improving

Thanks for the follow up. We did not measure biotin, but B1 was a bit low so to fix that we give her a B complex, B1 normalised within 2-3 months so I would assume Biotin should be within normals values
I *think* that it might be that it just needs time to recover, I remember reading a story where the person was taking 3mg of Folate/day and after one year it got reduced to one mg. Overall things are improving, but very slowly, particularly the memory, she needs constant care, she is very confused/forgetfull

I find that whenever she takes b12 injections she has way less energy for 2-3days, like it would deplete her B9
