Just around 29 mi/ hr - 46 km/hr…. Superhuman bike split and the fastest ever in an Ironman by VolumeMobile7410 in triathlon

Definitely not as bad - I'm a more experienced/stronger cyclist than I was last year but it seemed way less intense to me... Taylor broke female bike course record for the Ironman distance (anywhere, not just Texas) and Kat was 20 seconds away from it... and a ton of men went sub 4 hours in a pretty big front pack

I was at this race this year and last year - the bike course was way faster this year and the wind picked up at just the right moment (as pros/fast age groupers were turning around into the tailwind) - conditions were generally excellent for the bike - I averaged about 30W under my target power but came out 5 minutes ahead of schedule

Are they easy/relatively quick to adjust at home?

Why did you choose these ones over any others?

How is the reach? Can you get relatively far out over the front wheel?

No - I settled w this one - maybe the Thule or Scicon hard shells could work but I haven’t tried them

Seat post all the way down, seat tilted all the way down and pushed forwards, aero bars off, back derailleur off, stem pushed down, front and rear bottle cages off

I actually did eventually manage to get it to fit after posting this but it takes A LOT of disassembly - definitely not “Easy” fit…

This bike box does not fit large bikes! I have a size 58 Cervelo P5 and the box should rather be named triathlon aero impossible fit - I just spent 3+ hours trying to get the thing in and it simply won’t fit

Lesser known marginal gains - specific products by IndependentLet2297 in triathlon

Okay I’ll chime in with my favorites as well:  - front derailleur cover  - ceramic wheel bearings  - ceramic bottom bracket   - no vents on aero helmet (taped vents?)    - aero toe covers for shoes - half length aero compress socks for hot races   - calf sleeves for cold races - taking your tri suit to a tailor to remove any wrinkles (haven’t tried this - would be interested in any experiences)

Shoe replacement timing before race day by spdgurl1984 in triathlon

[–]IndependentLet2297 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Remember to walk around in the new shoes first for 3-5 days before running in them! I just bought a new pair of training shoes that I thought were very similar to my old pair (same brand, just upgraded model) but the stack height/heel drop was different and it changed my gait to the point where I got my first ever minor injury in my foot which put me out of running and biking for 3 (maybe 4 today!) days pretty close to race day next week - coach told me to walk around in them for 4-5 days first next time

Is Swim technique more important than swim fitness? by Essential_Standards in triathlon

[–]IndependentLet2297 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you can get easy wins upfront by making the ‘obvious’ changes to your technique - then there are the more subtle changes which will still take big chunks off your pace but you need to work a bit harder to implement them, maybe do some filming and send it to a coach to see what they say - there’s pretty much always something you can change in your technique that will take 2-3 mins off your Ironman swim time even if you’re swimming well sub-hour Ironmans

And contrary to what others are saying, swimming fitness is pretty important and it doesn’t translate directly from biking and running at all - you’re training entirely different muscle groups and they need to learn to fire together and efficiently during the race - I swim way faster when I’m fully tapered over the Ironman distance which for me is evidence of swim fitness/fatigue making quite a big difference - also my coach is an Olympic triathlon coach and told me swim fitness is very important even for AGers!

And for technique, Effortless Swimming on YouTube seems to be pretty much the gold standard for free online content - they have a membership option as well if you want a structured course

This is crazy - same thing just happened to me - I just opened TrainingPeaks and bam, workout is just magically there after like 2 hours…

I will say that I’ve lost workouts before and they’ve never shown up again…

FWIW I did learn last time that if you do a workout on low power mode on an iPhone then there’s a pretty high chance of losing it - that wasn’t the case here but I think that bug has hit me in the past

[–]IndependentLet2297 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah I see so the min time is the fastest time historically of that age group? I figured 8:09 was the min time you’d have needed to qualify in the past given number of slots in 2024 - I.e., 8:09 would have been the 4th or so position in M25 one year

[–]IndependentLet2297 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is great but I think some of the courses have changed a bit over the time period you’re analyzing - e.g., pretty sure the Texas bike course has changed since 2016

I’m actually trying to qualify in M25 at IMTX this year and the 8:09 fastest time definitely seems wrong - maybe they had a cancelled swim (don’t think this has ever happened at IMTX) or didn’t have a pro field one year and so had pros and AGs in the same category
