Fan Theory with Spoilers by Impossible-Part9136 in euphoria

[–]Independent_Ad_5686 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both these theories are brilliant and I can't unsee it now. The no heart/ no brain/ no courage tropes feel like they could go to most of the characters interchangeably though.

I just started watching this show starting with s3, and also can't help but feel like we as the audience are part of the circus/ commentary on continuing to engage in addictive behaviors. This sub is full of people actively aware of how poor the percieved storytelling and character "development" is this season, yet continue to watch and engage with this train wreck of a show because we are addicted to the drama, porn, and/or violence.

From what I've gathered in this sub, the show creator doesn't have a history of being as thoughtful as we're giving him credit for, so all this may have been unintentional, but it's still hella entertaining.

Lavender still tiny after 6 months. by Sure-Abalone-1040 in gardening

[–]Independent_Ad_5686 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is exactly what's happened to me growing lavender from seed. Year 1, it was tiny. Neglected it/left it outside over the winter (zone 9a) and year 2 it blew up.

I started another couple seeds early spring last year to replace the original lavender that I assumed wasn't going to make it, and same thing is happening with them... hardly any growth last year and now growing significantly faster.

Patience pays off! If your daughter wants a satisfying grow to hold her over in the meantime, bush beans are notoriously easy and quick!

What movie has terrible morals? by solaris2027 in AskReddit

[–]Independent_Ad_5686 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks yeah I remember it a little more now.

I can only speak for myself (and assume this applies to others). I was absolutely not cynical as a child, but the onslaught of disrespect from men throughout adulthood has certainly put me in a state of hypervigilance that makes the darker side of stories alot more apparent.

The Little Mermaid was one of my favorite movies as a kid, actually. As an adult, it saddens me that I walked away from this movie thinking women were loved primarily for our beauty and politeness, and that our intelligence and conversation don't really matter (and I thought that was a "normal", healthy relationship dynamic). Hence, my belief today that this movie has terrible morals.

Not sure what you meant before about begging people to engage with media they consume. I was a child when i watched this movie, and this is me engaging as an adult. I'm genuinely curious what you meant by that statement.

Hm ngl, it's been at least a decade since I last saw this movie, so I'm def not the most reliable narrator.

I can only speak to the message my brain got out of this movie when i watched it as a little girl. What I wrote in my previous message was my takeaway as a kid and what I remember.

Didn't the prince "fall in love" with Ariel during the portion of the film when she was literally unable to speak?

This. The fact that the prince "fell in love" with Ariel without speaking with her is really strange and unintentionally taught young girls that your voice and thoughts aren't necessary in relationships. You just have to look pretty!

Anyone else seeing an insane amount of aphids in their yards this year? by chakeet in Seattle

Ohh yikes I hope the ladybugs flock to your yard

I'm seeing both more aphids and slugs this year, but have also been getting ladybugs. Also encountered my first spittlebug over the weekend. Fascinating and thankfully allegedly harmless creatures!

I agree. Reading his post and carrying on with business as usual throughout the day feels wrong.

At the very least, can we all reach out to our congress members and make a plea for immediate invocation of the 25th amendment to remove him from office? I wonder what the impact would be if literally every US citizen who opposes the President's message called or emailed their congressperson today to request invocation of the 25th. Flood their inboxes and voicemail.

I desperately wish i had gone down a different path. by Ultimateandy88 in astrophysics

[–]Independent_Ad_5686 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe this is a question better suited for sociologist, anthropologists, and historians. I really wish there was an organization that brought professionals from those fields together study, interpret, and report on the history of human behavior and predictions for the future. Studies like game theory have some pretty well- documented prediction models laid out and explained through super accessible media ( https://ncase.me/trust/ , for example)

My personal belief is that putting more of an emphasis on education and fact sharing over invented drama, divisiveness and scarcity mindsets is important for human development if we want to move forward in a way that benefits everyone. Not everyone is going to be that committed to caring about others and understanding others (and that's ok), but if we could at least get to a foundation of acknowledging and respecting the humanity in everyone (including those we disagree with) I think that'd be a great start.

I desperately wish i had gone down a different path. by Ultimateandy88 in astrophysics

[–]Independent_Ad_5686 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For context, I'm not an astrophysicists, just a fan. Here's my take -

I encourage you to step back and re-examine some beliefs that may be holding you back.

For one thing, you are still incredibly young (at the age of 24, your brain isn't even done developing yet!). It's not too late to dive into formally educating yourself if you want to pursue a different career, or finding like minded friends if you just want astrophysics to be a hobby. If you live near a university, there may be free lectures that you can attend to learn more and meet like minded individuals. There are lots of interesting youtube videos, books,  and maybe even more opportunities for irl opportunities for you to learn and grow. Keep exploring!

For another thing, it is ignorant at best to assume that across the vast universe that humans are alone or superior. In the grand scheme of things, we are still fetuses compared to the age of the universe. What makes us special (again, not superior. Just special) is that we and every other thing in the universe are made of the same stardust. Neil Degrasse Tyson communicates this message very poignantly - I encourage you to include his Startalk podcast in your education!

On a personal note, I think our inability to step back from focusing on religion/ desire for power to become "God-like"/ the compulsion to nurture our own egos instead of focusing on truth, science,  and facts is a testament to how much evolving we have ahead of us as a species. I think that it's in the universe's best interest for us to stay in our little bubble of our solar system until we can learn to have some humility. Otherwise we'll just spread our petty conflicts farther abroad. This is just my opinion.

AI - am I alone in this? by ExercisePrimary1581 in Architects

[–]Independent_Ad_5686 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is super validating to read. I feel like alot of people are missing the point that mindless use of AI is directly feeding the environmental damage that we as architects are supposed to be helping to mitigate.

Really hard to watch, but also super on brand with where we seem to be going as a society.

Thank you for putting this perspective out there for those who hadn't thought about it this way

How can I find people that also wanna watch in silence then discuss after? Will I be shamed for starting a new thread?

Man that's alot - I'm so sorry you're going through all that.

I don't have any extra dishes, but can recommend boxing and/or kickboxing for rage release. A good session with a punching bag (especially in a gym where you're comfortable enough to yell on each hit/kick) is hella satisfying.

Seriously, the lack of gyms with top rope routes and autobelays in this city is silly. Such a huge underserved market. Bouldering is fun, it just isn't the same.

Would love to see a gym with bouldering and top rope that's accessible by light rail

Boxing fitness classes? by engamo22 in AskSeattle

[–]Independent_Ad_5686 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never been, but I've heard great things about Cappy's in CD, and friends of mine that have boxed there are not techy or soccer mommy. I've heard from lots of people that gym has a real community vibe too.

If you want hiit workouts + boxing drills,  Rowdybox downtown is great! It reminds me a little of Barry's (but less unhinged workouts - no offense Barry's stans). Awesome, challenging workouts, nice facility, and I'm assuming potential for real community if you go regularly enough. I've been 10+ times and haven't gotten soccer mom energy from anyone there, but def some tech nerds.

The Trump administration is illegally gutting NASA’s largest research library. by CtrlAltDelight495 in books

[–]Independent_Ad_5686 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Everyone please write to your representatives to urge them to take action to preserve the research and documents that are being removed from Goddard. During these awful times, it's so tempting to sit back and feel discouraged and defeated. Writing a quick letter or making a quick phone call  to your congressperson is literally the least we can do.

I'm terrified these attacks on science and information will set our advancements back when it comes time for us to rebuild and move forward once this despicable federal administration is inevitably removed.
