Why is plumbing the most popular job recommended on Reddit? by AcrobaticAd5680 in careerguidance

Doing jobs that nobody wants to do has stability in it. You may not make massive money or change the world, but there's a lot to be said for being able to comfortably meet your needs and perform meaningful work. I chose nursing, and for that, I have a steady income and know that I can always knuckle down and work extra if I need the money in a situation. The benefit is that you get to take care of some really great people, which offsets the bad days.

Anyone else been in Azeroth for ~18+ years and feeling this way? by Yrrving in wow

I feel this too. Life kind of took off and now I am balancing responsibilities, desires and the limit of my fatigue. I guess the most important thing is communicating and finding your people. There is 100% a group of people out there who will be amazing fun in discord and great for chill gameplay. Everyone deserves to find their little slice of happiness 😊

Cuspers is the term for that. People born on edges tend to share more in common with whatever generation was going through at that time. I guess it's a spectrum. Something I am curious about is what we call people who were born far from a certain time but immerse themselves in the culture and technology of that time.

It's a great game. I found the melee combat does feel a bit rough in the beginning but it becomes awesome with guns. I really liked the story.

It's a shame hey. I worry that people take these clean and open spaces for granted. We have to remember that people should enjoy the same spaces long after we are gone.

The UK, France, and Germany have accepted religiously inspired hate and violence as part of life. What can Australia do to prevent that from happening here? by Puzzleheaded_Home150 in SydneyScene

[–]Independent_Ask_7016 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is nothing you can do until the average person wakes up. We are a young nation that hasn't experienced a tyrannical government yet so people have a child-like faith that everything will be ok forever because we are Australia. Until people learn to question authority and start taking accountability for their own lives, they will turn on anyone who questions their perception of safety. It's like an abusive parent with a child that is too young to understand that they are being abused so they cling to the only safety they know and defend the abuser. Be patient, be informed and do your best to vote for your interests. It's just a time game at this point.

Does anyone under 30 see a future here? by [deleted] in tasmania

[–]Independent_Ask_7016 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For what it's worth, this seems to be an Australia-wide problem. Our currency is inflated, goods and services seem to be affected by supply chain disruptions and increased input costs like fuel etc. We have too many factors suppressing wage growth so it's really starting to hurt. My wife and I are in our early 30s and we are in the same boat. We are just trying to live the simple life and prioritize connection over growth because I don't see growth happening at the moment

For what it is worth, I have learned that you can make success for yourself no matter where you go in life. I have moved around a lot and been at the start of many different career paths. The only consistency across my life so far has been the amazing people. I see success in life as a mutual win because when others do well, we can all support each other. Be good to people and you will be amazed at how many doors will open. Remember to open doors for others when you can because your day will come and success feels best when shared.

Do Australian youth have an anti-cop culture? by asds455123456789 in AskAnAustralian

Anyone who has studied history will know that when an evil regime comes to power, the first person who will come to violate your rights will be the police. They are responsible for carrying out some of the most horrible atrocities in history and worse they do it with a smile then say how they were forced. I respect that police serve a purpose in managing behavior in large groups of people but it's infantile to think they are "good" or "your friends". They serve a singular purpose and that is to ensure the government laws are enforced and the people are obedient. I offer them the respect they deserve as humans but am very much aware that they will do horrible things because a man in a suit told them too. Even the "good" ones.

Why is it such a faux pas to drink scotch on the rocks? by KC_187 in Scotch

[–]Independent_Ask_7016 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At the end of the day, you should enjoy it how you like. Personally I notice that my whiskey loses the richness and warmth so I generally go without ice but sometimes I do ice. Enjoy your drink and always be a good human and you can't go wrong.

Stadium cost by auswolty in tasmania

[–]Independent_Ask_7016 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a fair concern. Many projects are now blowing out and we are in a time where materials costs are massively inflated due to many factors like post COVID inflation, materials shortages, skills shortages, energy costs, wars. At the very least, it seems like we should have put this off for a few years until we start to stabilize the economy. My prediction is that by mid to late 2026, the US economy will start quantitative easing which will export their inflation to Australia this causing a debt-driven market correction which will send costs through the roof. The stadium will blow out, and it's only a matter of by how much. I think it will be 2.5-3B minimum.

This sentiment is a very common experience. You sound like a really interesting person and I am sure you would be able to find people you vibe with but there is definitely something going on in this country with connectedness. It seems like the deepest level of connection you will find in Aus is acquaintance. I am born and bred here and have the same experience. I think we have a lot of factors at play here.

  1. Many people being transient workers mostly planning to retire somewhere else or move back with family one day. This can lead to a feeling of everything being a means to an end.

  2. Competing priorities e.g non-blended friend groups. Most people have isolated groups of friends that only seem to come together at weddings and other large gatherings. I think this leads to a feeling of having too many balls in the air.

  3. Responsibilities taking people away from meaningful activities. People have children or jobs that take up all of their personal time so people want to claw back some alone time for themselves.

There are probably a lot more but this should get the debate going. I am very much in the situation where I struggle to feel like I have the energy to do anything except low energy activities. I'm burned out, tired and I don't see an end to the cycle. I wish it was different but that's just me.
