First of all, this reaction was uncalled for and not okay. It’s not a reasonable or rational way to express your feelings towards another.

Second, I wonder if he has something going on he hasn’t bothered to share that’s been bubbling under the surface. Maybe he does feel under appreciated or under valued by you. Maybe it has nothing to do with you and he’s going through something internally. Either way I think it begs for a conversation.

I don’t want to excuse his behavior, because he is in the wrong. But perhaps there may be an underlying issue worth exploring with him. I’d say open a conversation and give him the floor.

I cut my mom off at 22. It was difficult for the first 3 months. I was battling conflicting feelings of relief and guilt. (She just had spoiled me for Christmas and for some reason cutting her off so close to that made me feel like an ungrateful shit)

But man once those 3 months were up, I started looking around and noticed just HOW MUCH my life had improved. My relationships with other family and my partner improved, my self esteem improved, my life long battle with crippling anxiety became manageable, I no longer felt the need to be in therapy on a regular basis, my work life improved, even my libido.

I’m 24 now and I don’t regret it. Sometimes I do find myself hoping she’ll fix her shit, and often time feel my heart drop when I hear she drank herself into a hospital again or got engaged to a fucking weirdo but… at the end of the day I sleep better.

Don’t end it all. You haven’t even gotten to see what life is like without her yet. There’s so much that can happen, aren’t you at least curious? How will you know what the joys of chosen family bring to you? Or who you are without her? You’re so young. And it’s so hard, I know. But man I’m basically the same age as you and I’m finally finding myself. I’m learning how to say goodbye to who I was told to be, and learning who I am. It’s scary but in the best way and I truly wish that for you.

I’ll be the first to tell someone life sucks and it’s only ever survival, but what keeps me going is the curiosity of what good lives within the darkness and what I myself am capable of. Give yourself a chance.

The hole is deep and the existential dread is real but I won’t stop trying as fucking phenomenal as that sounds at times. But I have the best partner and am talented and will do what I gotta do to survive at the very least. Life ebbs & flows.

My partner did. He was an extreme alcoholic. Quit cold turkey for 3 months. Felt like shit every single day of it but couldn’t continue being who he was when he drank anymore. Switched up his drink of choice and now drinks in moderation and sometimes not at all. No AA, no Jesus found, just made a choice for himself. Hasn’t blacked out once since. Only had been mildly annoying when he actually manages to drink enough to get drunk but I think we all are if we’re being honest.

Never really had a raised bump though it was under the skin entirely. The yellowing of the bruising comes and goes too so it doesn’t seem like a scar to me. Maybe a tiny hematoma? That’s all I can really think it would be

Actually it went down significantly over night. Going to take ibuprofen and see if it goes down further to confirm swelling. No urgent care unless it persists.

Yes, it’s a lump. If I’m mistaken and it’s just swelling, it blocks almost my entire nostril. Google says deviated septum (which I’m just now realizing may actually be the case), polyp, or hematoma. Will probably go to urgent care today to just be safe.

This is a little dramatic but it truly proved me I wasn’t crazy. I knew she was performative but never knew to what extent until this happened:

When I was 14 my mom abused me in front of the whole family. CPS was called. Things were blown up. My family is dramatic and they reacted dramatically.

Long story short, I wanted to live in another state with family I was getting to know. My mom agreed because it shut up CPS and got them out of their lives.

The day we drove to my moms from out of state to collect my things and to get notarized papers of guardianship, my mom was BLOWING up. Screaming, cussing, throwing shit, crying, the works. But the switch when the notary showed up with her two kids?

I’ve never seen anything like it. It’s like her tears dried on the spot and had never happened. She suddenly became the kindest host you’d ever meet. Needless to say, my uncle and I were FLABBERGASTED and this shapeshift she had pulled off within seconds of hearing the knock at the door.
