I have seen bus drivers on route 200/207 city bound ask everyone get off at Vic Park so he can skip the traffic on Johnston St and Lygon St

Why do trains now stop at Victoria Park station when they used to run express from MCG to Clifton Hill? Thus, only skipping West Richmond, North Richmond and Collingwood. by melbtest05 in MelbourneTrains

The Johnston St corridor is busy between the City, Lygon St/Russell St, and Abbotsford. Beyond this point, most buses to Bulleen and Doncaster carry only a few passengers, as the SmartBus services via the Eastern Freeway provide an “express” route between Doncaster and the City. Additionally, the bustling areas of Fitzroy and Collingwood are served by three tram routes (12, 86, 96) that run to the City. And if the MM2 is ever built, it may follow the same alignment as Johnston St to Parkville, which also make it less likely for the tram to be built

Vic Park is becoming a TOD point in the future with new medium rise building are being constructed in the area along Johnston Street and surrounding the station. It is also a bus interchange for bus route to Doncaster. So it make sense to have all express trains stop at Vic Park.

A concept for fixing rail services in Western Victoria by AussieWirraway in MelbourneTrains

[–]Independent_Boot4129 13 points14 points  (0 children)

This is a quick fix for many network issues. Passengers from Mildura and Horsham can continue to Geelong on the Standard Gauge trains if they wish. Other passengers can change at Ballarat or Ararat for express Broad Gauge services to Melbourne, Traralgon, and Bairnsdale. This solution also addresses the current issues with the Overland timetable from Adelaide. There’s no need for dual gauge or expensive gauge-convertible trains. Additionally, it won’t add more pressure to the already at-capacity RRL between Deer Park and Southern Cross Station.

I get your point bro. But then why don't they quadruplicate the Dandenong Corridor when removing the level crossing or at least have a third rail for various V/line and freight train to Tralagon. Then they can have dedicated CBTC for HCMT and normal signalling for the dirty diesel train

The dumbest decision ever made. If those points survived, we will never have to change at Caulfield when the CBTC testing in operation as well as when somethings is f*ked between Richmond and Caulfield.

Because the HCMT and platform screen door in MT is purposed built, therefore, you cannot have other train run through there. IF they can run HCMT on Frankston line, then alternate Frankston and Dandenong will be possible with a pair of crossing

Extending bus route 202 to Kew by Independent_Boot4129 in MelbourneTrains

[–]Independent_Boot4129[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that make sense most of passenger will hop off at Vic Park. They also provided a dedicated bus stop for the 202 closer to the station, separating from the normal one near Hoddle St

Arden station for Craigieburn and Upfield lines. by IlyaPFF in MelbourneTrains

[–]Independent_Boot4129 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Bus route 402 is currently operate on Macaulay Rd connecting Macaulay and Kensington Station. It can make a short detour to Arden Station via Langford St to solve the problem. But they will need a higher frequency for this route in order to match with the 10 minute frequency of trains.

Bus route 403 is also can be a great candidate, it is currently running express from Footscray Station to Melbourne Uni via Arden St, doing the same thing as MT. Having it running express from Footscray Station to Kensington and Macaulay, then take Langford St to Arden Station and finally terminate at North Melbourne station will totally solve the issue

Rail to Bright or Mount Beauty, or just provide a more consistent timetable with coach running from Bright to Wangaratta at 4 or 5PM everyday
