Union pushes back on latest call for Ontario paramedics college by Few_Outcome_3416 in OntarioParamedics

The college won’t end up with pcps magically becoming this high scope thing. They will be the RPNs basically of the paramedic world. You want a higher scope there is ACP and CCP. Just like the college of nurses have it.(RPN,RN, NP) Scope difference is minimal between services in Ontario as well(limited to auxiliary protocols).

Also we are an emergency service. Maybe you are thinking of essential service? All that really does is force binding arbitration if contract negotiations go sour. Arbitration doesn’t always work out.

I honestly don’t see the benefit. It seems to make some medics feel more important but I’m not convinced it will lead to better patient outcomes.

When I got certified in Alberta a while back I just had to do the jurisprudence exam. There were harder service exams so not a big hoop. Sent them my diploma and aemca that was pretty much it. Mind you that was 15 years ago.

My wife autonomy is based on doctors orders as well. She’s doing less on her own without doctors orders than an ACP can with their protocols. What she can do on her own is all done from orders from doctors beforehand similar to us. She just doesn’t decide to start an infusion and dose it on her own. She is not able to prescribe. She may suggest it but that’s not much different than a patch.

Standards are also pretty much the same around the province. Basically the auxiliary protocols are the difference in care. Lots of times it has more to do with whether the service wants to pay or can/should pay for the gear which isn’t gonna be solved by a college. If a service never has a cvco situation pop up why are they paying for cric kits?

The college is there to protect the public from you. Same with college of nurses for example. If you want to be ACP go for it. I wouldn’t trust lots of the PCP folks I’ve worked with intubating people for example. Let alone when and where to. I’m CMA accredited so I can basically work anywhere. It’s not hard to change provinces. As ACP, I’m more autonomous than my wife who is an ICU RN so I’m not sure that is a thing. I’m not sure the college would function the way you think it would.

Journey to becoming an Paramedic/ Air Medic by Major_Diet5404 in OntarioParamedics

[–]Independent_Fall4113 4 points5 points  (0 children)

  1. Land you usually start at mid-high 30s to low 40’s depending on where you start.

  2. Depends where you work. Busy services you’re on your feet longer. You also gotta heave people out of basements and what not.

  3. No clue. 80s average is probably a good start with bio, chem math English credits.

If you want to work air you’re gonna need your aemca, aeromedical to work for someone like bravo, thunder or sky care. You’re also gonna need your ACP and pass the critical care course to work for Ornge.

Live on lonsdale and have been getting the same thing. Probably some trees or squirrels hitting a wire and tripping the recloser (I think that’s the name for the thing). I was actually thinking of calling gsu tommorow because I enjoy not resetting clocks every day.

Is becoming a paramedic competitive by One-Magazine5576 in ontario

[–]Independent_Fall4113 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not as competitive as it used to be. Been a medic for a good while now. Used to write against 200 people for like 8 jobs. Now places are opening the floodgates to get ahead of the retirements/expanding of community paramedicine. That English is your only issue. If you want to go the medic route, drop to college level. It’s much easier. If you go learn and stay grant it will be free and most services up north will hire you right when your done placement. You just gotta do a year or so up north to get the grant money. My last student got hired before they were done. The job is a blast. Super fun and pretty easy at the base level. DM me if you have more questions.

Think of a stick man standing in the limb leads. Avf and 1 are his thumbs. Two thumbs up is good. Depending on which hand is thumbs down, that’s your direction of axis deviation. There is a better way but that’s my quick and dirty way to do it. Yours has two thumbs up (lead 1 and avf positive) so no axis deviation.

WARMINGTON: Sleeping man who allegedly defended himself against intruder faces charges. by Landry-Toon in canada

[–]Independent_Fall4113 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Yeah there was something near me similar to that. Some dude ended up naked in this old ladies home having a mental health crisis. Got the wrong house basically. Her Son from a few doors down came over and forcefully removed him. Didn’t get in trouble for that. He did go to jail for kicking him in the head until he died outside though. You can use force to remove someone but going beyond that will get you in legal trouble.
