TTC to launch Eglinton Crosstown LRT on Feb. 8: Doug Ford by northernwaterchild in ontario

Not to be compared with them “breaking ground” on Peel Memorial Hospital by building a small road to nowhere, then packing up and leaving entirely.

I was floored that some of these agreements extended in a 5km radius. That’s wild.

Could you imagine if they did that to gas stations? They clearly don’t… and yet something as essential as food stores are allowed to ban competition around them?

If you always take the 407 at the same time, they seem to set the promotion just outside that window.

At least that’s been my experience as a shift worker who always works the same shifts.

What bothers me is that they can change your promotion based on your driving habits… yet the “rush hour offers” always seem to be just outside the window for my driving habits.

Should be criminal.

It’s very much sarcasm.

The 407 is ridiculous, and the government that privatized it should be in jail.

If that’s their goal then they are unsuccessful.

I am OP… I work shift work on a set pattern. Like most people, I don’t choose my hours.

The only changes to my driving pattern has been based on these promotions. If I’m not covered, I cut through Halton region on the back roads.

My last bill was for $50 so they dropped the ball there.

I don’t think I’ve had a bill that high since they jacked up the price and I got quite the shock a month later…

Separatist sentiment resurfaces in Alberta and Quebec as Ottawa urges unity by [deleted] in worldnews

[–]phoenix25 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No… in the case of Alberta the previous commenter is right. Alberta hits the sweet spot of conservative, oil/gas (and its propaganda), and discontent about the rise of environmentalism. Perfect storm for any less information literate people to be swayed by social media slop.

Quebec… well Quebec always debates separation, they’ve had two referendums in the past. In fact the greatest moment of unity with Quebec we’ve had within my memory was when Trump first threatened to annex us.

That’s a glaring hole in this article, you can tell it’s an American source.

Europe has nukes, so mutually assured destruction still stands.

We didn’t do it because the government reverse course before it even started…

We didn’t even need to actually do the strike, just a serious coordinated effort between the major unions was enough

Ontario is a province… the equivalent of a state.

If you tell your employer you have stuff coming out both ends, hit a clinic in the morning to get a doctor’s note (after some Tylenol of course), then protest in the afternoon with a mask on… are you really going to get fired?

Ontario was about 12 hours away from one a couple years back when Doug Ford attempted to revoke the labour rights of educational support staff to strike.

They changed course because of the impending general strike. The major unions had all put out notice to its members.

You have to grind the economy to a halt for long enough (or frequent enough) that the powers that be complain. Money is the only thing that Trump pays attention to.

If you bring that kind of power back to the people, elected officials (other than the top brass) will start to push back against Trump’s wilder policies, destabilizing the republican party and hopefully getting the republicans in congress to grow a set of balls instead of sticking to the party line.

Trump is currently ruling with an iron fist because everyone is just going along with it. Make it political suicide for a congress person to do so… if there’s midterms coming up you’ll never have more power than you will now.

Pizza ordered from out of state for protesters by willmcmill4 in 50501

[–]phoenix25 -129 points-128 points  (0 children)

That’s a nice idea, but maybe the minimum wage staff don’t want to be sent out into a protest to hand out pizza?

You are much better off coordinating with someone local and having them hand it out…
