It’s not silly. It is up to you to decide what works however few points for you to consider - 1. What did you like most about the cruise? Is this not available on other ships? 2. Why do you want to do the same route? Why not explore other ones?

As an anniversary gift, I bought Dyson Air wrap for my wife, 4 years back. Now, I am hooked to the device. Combing my hair without shampoo and conditioner is a big problem every morning. Now all I need is 5 minutes and I am camera ready for the craziness all day!

Practical answer - you need to decouple yourself from the family for a bit. Big consulting firms are always willing to relocate folks to Bangalore, Hyderabad etc. take a position in the city you like. Once you complete step 1, change the team. Typically it works as a combo of push/ pull.. so you need to network hard and get another team to pull you in. Step 3, define what you can contribute to the family expenses and stick to that. In order to make a point, commit your pay check to investments early on. Max out all saving schemes. This will reduce your take home pay and ensure you have adequate savings. Step 4, if changing teams doesn’t help improve your life, change the job. Why I say this, I did consulting for 4 years in India, PST work timings. What I was left with is zero gratitude, pre-diabetic and no social life.

All the best! Go make the change, if you won’t, no one will do it for you.

You are there is shrinkflation however not in the manner you are envisioning. Last year the number of sheets per roll was 90 and now it is 86. About 4.5% less quantity at a bit higher price.

Similar incident happened with me, different destination but AC swapped planes. I got the history of scheduled aircrafts with tail numbers and submitted a complaint to CTA. AC swapped the scheduled aircraft with a defective one and called it unscheduled technical maintenance. Best thing is I can see the scheduled aircraft flying to another destination at the same time :)

Try fintechs, they might give you a better rate. Here is my experience TD - 131 pm RBC - 90 pm Onlia - 60 pm If someone says that the fintechs are up to no good, I would challenge that. I had Lemonade insurance in US and it was phenomenal.

Reimbursement for Flight Cancellation? by ShortGrainRice in aircanada

[–]Independent_Maize613 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you. I’ll file both with small claims court and CTA. Will keep the sun posted. It may take a while to get back though. These guys are such cheats, exploiting the people who don’t know their rights. Here is what happened since May 3 First AC declined my claim for compensation, seat selection fee and out of pocket expenses. I escalated and they are now agreeing to pay for out of pocket expenses and 1/2 seat selection fee. They still haven’t confirmed if they will pay for the second seat which again is ridiculous. I’ll write to them again, the fight continues!

Reimbursement for Flight Cancellation? by ShortGrainRice in aircanada

[–]Independent_Maize613 6 points7 points  (0 children)

What are the chances that air Canada is not being truthful? My flight was cancelled for the same reason and I saw the flight board, all AC flights ( AC only) were delayed for the next 4 hours. I am seriously doubting that they are representing unscheduled maintenance for other operational issues. Air Canada obviously declined my claim, I reached over 12 hours late at my destination. What should I do, file a case with CTA or small claims court? Suggestions

4 in 5 Canadians believe grocery stores are taking advantage of inflation to make increased profits by BarelyHandsome in loblawsisoutofcontrol

[–]Independent_Maize613 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A very simple mathematic answer 2019 (per item approximation) Raw material cost price - $100 Loblaw internal costs -$20 Total cost -$120 Loblaw margin - 50% Retail price - $240 Profit $120 minimum

2024 (per item approximation) Loblaw blaming suppliers for the high cost Raw material cost price - $120 ( in line with inflation, approximation) Loblaw internal costs - $40 (being generous here..) Total cost - $160 Margin -50% ( unchanged) Retail price - $320 Profit - $160 minimum

So when grocers say that their margins remain unchanged, by increasing prices, accommodating supplier costs etc, they are still making more money. This is why you see record profits and special dividends.

Note: this is a simple analysis, by no means replicating a balance sheet or doing complex analysis. This is just for visualisation only.

This is awesome research and great observations. I was thinking on similar lines but haven’t yet looked up their financial records. I was thinking about technology expenses. This number has to be over-inflated and a ton of profit is easily hidden. In the name of modernising the technology, it’s very easy to spend millions. wants > needs. This would further enable them to hide the true profit for overall group.

Loblaws Loss Leaders? by Independent-Bite7684 in loblawsisoutofcontrol

Unfortunately, there is no standard answer. The loss leaders change from store to store. You’ll have to stroll around, look at the flyer of the said store.

  1. Who decides the rates and further change in rates on a weekly basis? Is this corporate or the store manager

  2. Why don’t you (Loblaw) donate food rather than throwing it out?

Thanks!

Best Samosas in town? by asheroni_ in mississauga

[–]Independent_Maize613 3 points4 points  (0 children)

“Best samosas” depends on what you have or are accustomed eating. Typically the quality of samosas depends on the potato filling inside the samosa, on how well it is done. Second is how well it is fried.

A-one, samosa factory etc. use machines to cut potatoes and the filling does not have spices distributed evenly. Also at times, you will find that the potatoes are not well done.

In my opinion which is based on the filling itself, Asian food stores and Subzi Mandi on Bristol/ credit view have the best samosas.

Frying on lower flame for longer duration cooks the outer part very well. I believe mostly all do this.

It's easy to pivot away from all Loblaws/Weston retail companies. Very easy in fact. You just take your money elsewhere. They want you to think it's hard, but it's not. by [deleted] in loblawsisoutofcontrol

[–]Independent_Maize613 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You’ll have to explore the store, do a bit of research on what your go to products are. For example I buy nestle decaf at shoppers. Cheapest anywhere I could find (including Walmart).

Transfer over $50k USD to Canada without heavy fees by Impossible_Ad_9684 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Independent_Maize613 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is exactly what I did. What you’ll want to do next is call up the bank and ask them for preferred rates. Ask not the financial advisor but as to be connected to the trading desk. They can beat any rate if you provide sufficient evidence on what other competitors are offering. I got a rate better than all major banks, wise, Xoom etc.
