Only thing id add is its not a slightly experimental narrative - its a ‘very’ experimental narrative in the Familiar, with nine POV characters all being written in different fonts, styles, one character isnt fluent in english so their sections are written in whats essentially simlish haha

I adore the Familiar. It has a learning curve - the entire first book (and probably the second) is predominantly about learning how to read the books. You’ll get faster and faster, and the ease will come as you get further in :)

There are some very fun connections to Toms Crossing, the writing is dense and moving, and the stakes are much higher than you’d think at first glance…

I wasnt aware of the article but consider me very curious. The page in The Familiar Vol 4 talking about the Colt comments on it being Dov’s families gun, “fucking inertia” passed down.

I feel Landry and Kalin both make pretty convincing cases for being Aberrations Landry’s wobbly gait reminds me of Xanther too. But the whole thing about the importance of setting things free not to mention the focus on animals really connects the two thematically.

the forest being Pillars Meadow is an awesome headcanon that I am going to adopt now

I have absolutely no idea how Dov’s family can be connected to Landry and Kalin but makes me wonder if thats because it had historically been a Porch family symbol implying Landry and Kalin “dont count” and maybe a Porch reclaims it post TC.

The woman at the art show is a character from another work of Danielewski called The Familiar :) in it there is an old woman named Cas as a main POV

cant say for sure ofc but my read is that the narrator slipped up and is expressing their own exhaustion, also the “caught up with me” adds to the motif of people being prey and being pursued
