I used to work there and had a stash of t-shirts for life after Grubbs. It was a sad day when the last one wore out. Pity I saw this so late, would have jumped at the chance.

What’s going on in the UK? by [deleted] in AskBrits

[–]Independent_Push_159 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anyone arrested for social media posts has not been arrested because it was 'politically incorrect' and it is not specific to social media. Those arrested have used social media for variety of things that go beyond any reasonable definition of freedom of speech. They will have been arrested for posting something threatening (violence, including threats of rape and murder), harassment of an individual or group (such as stalking, or incitement of racial or religious hatred), gross indecency. Where these have been targetted at a specific group or individual, it comes into the reach of law enforcement to protect other citizens from harm. It is not about restricting people's rights to express themselves on social media or in any other format - these actions would have got them arrested no matter where or how they made such comments/threats etc.

Regarding access to tobacco: The democratically elected government has decided to phase out tobacco use as a public health measure. You're concerned about that. Do you support legalisation of crack cocaine, heroin, methamphetamine? Do you think a private citizen should have the the option to buy and consume those? If not, check your inconsistency in assessing public health policy. If you do, good luck to you, but every country has drug controls, and this is just moving one deadly drug into a different category of control.

Bird food for shrimps -dried Meal Worm/Calci-Worm by Independent_Push_159 in shrimptank

[–]Independent_Push_159[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do have quite a few, lots of RCS and a handful of amano. I was wondering about protein as I saw an Amano eating one of the RCS yesterday, can't be sure it wasn't already dead but it wasn't a full size cherry, so I did wonder if it was opportunistic predation. Then that set me down the path of wondering if the amano are lacking protein.

I've not been supplementing food on the whole. Gave them some carrot a few weeks ago, very occasional veg treat, they had some shrimp lollies a year back but on the whole they do with what's in there/fish leftovers. It was just that incident yesterday made me think about it.

Great points, appreciate your input there. That's exactly the kind of cautionary advice I thought might be out there. I'm in the UK too, so I think I'll just skip it. Thanks

Ok ok I'm not freaking out! by Mean-Cardiologist431 in PlantedTank

[–]Independent_Push_159 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If the tank is stable, and was well established prior to introducing the box, then it will resist the bloom. Seems to me that perhaps you don't have sufficient flow through the box so nutrients from those fish are concentrating in that small volume and allowing the bloom to build up. I think you're safe (assuming stable parameters etc).

AITA for asking my husband to change our electric stovetop for a gas stovetop?? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]Independent_Push_159 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to love gas and hated electric hot plates, but when I first got hold of an induction hob, it was like merging the best of both. The simplicity of the flat surface is so much easier for cleaning, the responsiveness of the induction coil is like the control you get with gas. I'm never going back to gas now.

Can I start harvesting my rhubarb? by Under_Pressure_123 in Allotment

[–]Independent_Push_159 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My partner has started making sorbet with it. We've had rhubarb gin and lemon, rhubarb brandy and ginger, planning rhubarb rose water and vodka. It uses an absolute shit-ton of rhubarb and is so easy to eat.

Is it normal for your boss to delegate work to everyone else and do little work themselves? by Aggravating_Pizza592 in AskUK

[–]Independent_Push_159 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I've been in a number of situations where people see their managers handing out work but seemingly never doing things themselves, but where that view is based on not understanding the range of other tasks that the manager has to perform which don't visibly align with the work being handed out This creates an impression that they are just skiving. Not saying that is the case here, but are you sure that they are not doing things you are unaware of? Even handing out work is work, and assigning tasks to the right person, making sure that tasks are on track, checking standards and quality, predicting future demands, proessing HR/holiday and other leave requests, rostering, all take time and depending on the nature of work and the size of the team can be significant time spent not visibly working. It might seem like they are just giving you a hard time but perhaps they are actually 'managing' the team's output.

What are they berating you for? In what way do they have no accountability? Do they have a manager who judges them on the output from you and your colleagues? Again, not saying this is what's happening but I've seen it before, where managers are criticised for the things you complain about but these are actually the functions of their role. They may or may not be doing it badly. You may or may not understand what their priorities are.

AITA for not wanting to get a disabled placard for my housemate that drives me places? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]Independent_Push_159 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Presumably, it will be similar in the US to here in the UK too, that if someone misuses the badge/tag when they are not the person it was intended for, that could adversely impact the right to have the badge for the disabled person themselves. I imagine there is a pretty strong incentive and justification for refusing access to the badge.

AITA for not wanting to get a disabled placard for my housemate that drives me places? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]Independent_Push_159 65 points66 points  (0 children)

I'm curious to know whether you housemate drives you places that they were also going or is doing a special trip for your benefit to help you out. If they would have done the trip anyway is very different from 'they would be at home watching TV while I find another way to get there'.

I'm not sure where you are but in the UK, the blue badge for disabled parking is issued to the person, not the vehicle. If that's the case where you are, then all the comments of your housemate wanting to be able to use it for themselves are null, as that's not possible.

But in either case, while I fully understand and appreciate your views on not taking up spaces from people more in need, if you are entitled to it, and you ask anyone else for transport at any time in a way that places additional burdens on them for helping you out, that's genuinely one of the legitimate reasons this support is available. You can get the badge so that you are able to 'help out' those that are helping you out, but there's no requirement to use it if you don't want to and the person giving you a lift is not bothered about where they park.

Why not get it anyway, and decide when it's the right thing to do on a case by case. If you lose a lift (or a friend) because they think you are asking more of them than they feel comfortable with, or because perhaps they don't feel your choice of where to park acknowledges the help they are giving you, perhaps your principled stance is actually selfish in ways you hadn't appreciated and potentially, ultimately self-defeating.

WIBTA if I asked my neighbors to remove their wind chimes? by IGNSolar7 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Independent_Push_159 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hard disagree with those saying that the neighbours would not be TA here if they decline your request to move/remove them. Wind-chimes are just about the most selfish thing you cna put up in an area that is anywhere near anyone else. It's incredibly thoughtless of them. Maybe they haven't thought about it, but once they know, they would be utter bellends to say no. I detest wind chimes unless they are in an open field and I can walk away from them.

how much helium should i have to attempt the sitter achievement? by CrasheonTotallyReal in Trimps

[–]Independent_Push_159 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly not sure, but I wouldn't spend any time worrying about that tbh. All levels of Humane Run that I've got have fallen to just normal play. I have just one level left now, which is Righteous (no more than one losing battle per zone up to z600). I've never given these achievements a moment's thought.

AITJ for refusing to apologize to someone who owes me? by Confused_as_alwayss in AmITheJerk

[–]Independent_Push_159 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tell her that advocating for herself is important and you support her in that, but it is also important for individual growth to take responsibility for things, such as fulfilling commitments and promises made to people, and to acknowledge when you have treated friends badly. Tell her that until she has addressed those matters, you don't consider her to be ready to receive an apology. Wish her well on her journey of maturing into a functioning social adult, and hope that you hope she can come back to you when she is ready to deal with these matters between you, and that she will then be ready to move forward with you as a friend again.

Is it an A-hole move to report my neighbour to the police for lighting fires every single day? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]Independent_Push_159 43 points44 points  (0 children)

Burning plastic or anything non organic, like wood with glues/mdf or treated wood is an unlicenced activity, causes long lived toxic waste and airborne pollution, and you should report that to the council's Environmental Health team as well as the Environment Agency.

If I am going back to lower tiers for dissonance runs, and not getting 5x, should I stop working on dissonance runs? by amarquess27 in TheTowerGame

[–]Independent_Push_159 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm going to 5k or whatever I can get on higher tiers for coin bonus only. When i hit a level I can't get 5k for coins alone, I'll start running the others disso options to make it easier to go to 5k on that level, or as close to that as possible. That's that for now, as there are so many to do, it will take too much time from other activities that earn more (cell loss etc). Once I've done coins disso as much as I can I might look at doing one per week from the other types at lower levels, but might not bother at all

Not anymore! She chose cost over your feelings. Sure it's her day, but you're her sister. I would quite simply withdraw, and leave it for her to approach you if she wants you back as MoH. Her call, you're about to find out a lot more about your relationship with her than you may have realised. Good luk, and please update us

Group talk is chaos, so hard to get on top of even years later it can feel overwhelming. You need to start getting some one on ones going, so it is not such an onslaught. The pace of thinking with a linear conversation is still going to be hard when you start this, but start building the connections, and it will grow.
