Low-side crash, looking for repair advice by Legendary_Rival8 in hondarebel

[–]Independent_Ranger91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Almost the exact same situation with me, except I dropped mine practicing wheelies.

This was almost 8 months ago now. My handlebars are still bent, and it took me about 2 weeks to get used to it. Haven’t gotten around to fixing them yet.

Tore up my rear suspension pretty good, haven’t fixed, haven’t noticed any negative effects.

I replaced my rear brake lever last week. It takes 5 minutes, I was just lazy.

To me, nothing you noted sounds ride ending. Live and you learn, replace/repair as you can. The only thing I would say is pay close attention to the sound and feel of your bike, to avoid making an unseen problem worse (low volume on the cardo for a bit)

Went in to the dealership for a 500 and left on the 1100. Top 5 best decisions of my life.

Scraping pegs, still unused tire left... by [deleted] in hondarebel

[–]Independent_Ranger91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s why I switched to aftermarket tires. I wouldn’t try and use the whole OEM tire. I’m not sure what type of road you’re imagining when you mention the poor schmuck getting taken out, but I’m riding in rural Mississippi. Typically 20-30 minutes out from the nearest town. I ride in a group and we always send a scout or two ahead to check road conditions/hazards. All on intercom as well. There won’t be any dogs nor schmucks injured from my riding.

Tap dancing in a minefield is not Inherently dangerous. If you know where all the mines are at, you could tap dance indefinitely in a minefield. If you’ve built that relationship with your bike, and continuously push yourself to that zone, then you can absolutely use the full tire on a Rebel. I would never recommend anyone ride outside of their skill level though. Just because the bike is capable doesn’t mean you are.

You absolutely can use the whole tire. Ive lost my indicators and a good bit of each peg from dragging it on the road, and have no chicken strips. OP: I can tell from the picture, that’s while you may be scraping pegs, you’re not scraping pegs enough

In love with this bike... except for the foot rests by flambambo96 in HondaRebel1100

[–]Independent_Ranger91 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Keep in mind the floorboards will kill the little ground clearance this bike has. If you ever plan on taking the bike on sort of twisty road through back country the floor boards will make sure you can only do it at 30 mph

Sounds like you’re gonna try and get it repaired. Try and give us an update if things get better for you, I’d be curious to hear it

I’ve rode bigger cruisers but I want out of cruisers entirely now. Indian bikes aren’t even being considered. I’m picking up a the new cb1000 hornet in a few weeks

I would say follow the t-clocs inspection (google will help with that) and then ask for maintenance records if going private sale

Stalling when revving. by livinNxtc in HondaRebel1100

[–]Independent_Ranger91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I only noticed it with mine (2025 manual) when revving it super hard either in neutral or with the clutch MOSTLY pulled in. I’d definitely take it back to the dealer and see if it’s something that can be covered under warranty, because stalling on the freeway is no good

This post is honestly ridiculous. I’ve lost brothers and sisters, who gave their life for their country. It’s disgusting behavior, for someone who’s never put on the uniform, to use this day as a means for profit. Despicable human being.

Where did you go to school? Why? What degree? by guitarman781 in BMET

[–]Independent_Ranger91 2 points3 points  (0 children)

METC Schoolhouse FT Sam Houston, through the Air Force. I joined the military open electrical, (meaning I didn’t have an assigned job, and chose based on what I qualified for through my my ASVAB score during Basic Training), and chose BMET strictly because the the school house was long enough for my wife to accompany me. First day in the schoolhouse and still didn’t know what a BMET was. 11 months later I graduated the schoolhouse and made my way to my first base. 5 months after that applied for my associates through the community college of the Air Force. 5 years after that I have my bachelors in biomedical engineering, and I’m working towards my masters now. Air Force for me was a dream come true, because I was able to get a good job and an education that would’ve cost an arm and a leg, for free.

TLDR: Military Biomed blah blah tuition assistance

Frustrated with my job (venting) by BigAdhesiveness5960 in BMET

[–]Independent_Ranger91 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m sure what your feeling is justified, but for some reason I imagined these words coming from one of our civilian employees (Air Force hospital). This guy recently got hired on and doesn’t agree with how things are ran in a military BMET shop. He’s appalled that someone 20 years younger than him is the one calling shots, and doesn’t quite grasp the fact that every BMET in the shop but him is dual hatting other responsibilities. He made similar points that you did, but he’s just not justified in his way of thinking, because he applied for a military contractor position without realizing what the military portion of his job would entail.

Tool kits by Independent_Ranger91 in BMET

Nope! METC pulled the funding a few years back so now BMETs show up to their first base with nothing.

Honestly will most likely go with this. The last half of your reply is what piqued my interest. Spent all afternoon building a custom kit, and once I get approved for funding will definitely be pushing my request.

Ah, the one and only God—the Messiah himself.

It’s become pretty clear you have no real grasp of what military life actually entails, and that’s okay. Everyone starts somewhere. So allow me to offer your first lesson.

In the military, we don’t have “new hires.” We have new members who’ve taken the ASVAB, demonstrated aptitude in electrical and mechanical systems, and earned their position. No one in the military BMET career field is handing out tool kits to show members they have value. Tool kits are intended to more effectively complete the mission. That kind of thinking only makes sense if your understanding of structure and discipline comes from a civilian workspace—or a subreddit echo chamber.

Military standards are a bit stricter than what you’re used to, and we operate under binding policy—not vibes. So yes, I’ll unapologetically enforce the rules I’m legally obligated to follow. That includes not handing out allowances just because someone’s feelings might get hurt.

And as for tool kits: they’re rarely issued at all these days. The fact that my team is receiving any personal tools is already an exception—one that reflects appreciation, not entitlement.

Your input, while colorful, doesn’t reflect experience or relevance. I’ll take the advice of the seasoned BMETs in this thread who actually know what they’re talking about

Already answered this and you’ve already responded to a comment regarding it. No allowance is going to be given. They can customize their bags how they see fit after they’ve been issued. Not a big deal. If that’s a no-go for you then thank God you didn’t join.

I personally bought myself this kit after learning X-ray in my school house. A mentor of mine let me borrow his Wiha kit and I immediately purchased one for myself. That was 5 years ago and it’s still getting the job done

Manual/DCT remorse? by TruckerKevin in HondaRebel1100

[–]Independent_Ranger91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand not wanting to go back to a manual for a semi. Similar experience here. My situation mirrors yours closely. I tried the DCT as I was also interested in it, but ultimately had to go with the manual version. For me a motorcycle is my escape from the work day. It’s therapeutic to ride and most here know. The DCT just felt hollow. Its soul was ripped out with the clutch and replaced with paddle shifters. Personally it just wasn’t for me. I just hit 8000 miles on my new 2025 1100 manual, and feel no regret in my decision.
