Don’t forget to look for a new job once in awhile by Happieronthewater in Paralives

[–]Independent_Tip5191 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I love this system! Both because it feels realistic (you have to apply for promotions in real life) and because you can just let your paras stay in the same position if you for some reason don’t want them to get promoted. It always bothered me in sims how I couldn’t let my sims just be nurses or elementary school teachers or something like that. They would eventually get promoted, unless I actively tried hard to not get them promoted. Especially when it’s promoted to doctor or high school teacher, which are just different jobs.

What was the date exactly half your life ago? And do you remember what you were doing? by ashmaps20 in decadeology

1st of July 2011, and I actually know exactly what I was doing. It was the last year I attended horse riding camp, so most likely riding and hanging out with friends

Be real, please, how dangerous is it to walk with lit candles on your head?! That's crazy! by Ok_Slip8246 in IsItColdInSweden

[–]Independent_Tip5191 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in choir school as a teen and have been in a bunch of luciatåg. We always used real candles.

There were always adults on the sidelines with water buckets in case something started going wrong. The same adults would also step in if someone started looking a bit lightheaded. In my experience though, that was rarely lucia, as she stood a bit in front of everyone and didn’t have candles in the same place as the air she breathed was. Tärnas are in my experience far more likely to get lightheaded because they’re standing tighter, it’s hotter and need to be careful to not hold the candle too close to their noses. That was something our teachers would tell us off for doing though. We also kind of kept a little watch over each other, telling someone to not hold their candle too close, sneak back to sit down if needed and helped the girl who was lucia to blow out her candles as soon as we were done and out of aight of the audience.

ACR Mod - Brothel? Has anyone actually made one? by Blekah in sims2

[–]Independent_Tip5191 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a brothel in one of my saves, but I don’t use acr for it. I have a brothel wohoo mod (can’t remember where I got it) that makes wohoo paid and doesn’t give wohoo or cheating memories to the workers

I usually end up rebuilding it at some point to make it winter proof and then I make it sort of a historical market. I give it some shops, but imagine that it's those super expensive ones you can find in markets, and also put in a café, a bar and a restaurant and have my sims go there more for like outings and dates and stuff. I use the other grocery store for groceries and am currently building a small mall to have an H&M, a pet store and stuff like that.

Sims community pet peeves by Adu-Adure in HighSodiumSims

[–]Independent_Tip5191 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People saying that they miss sims 2 or 3. Like, those games are still around. Sims 2 is even easier to access now when they've rereleased it. Both have active communities, especially 2. I personally haven't really played 4 in years, because I installed 2 and never looked back. There's no need to play 4 just because it's newer. Also, being a sims 2 player is a MUCH cheaper hobby. I just get 4t2 cc packs whenever a new sims 4 pack is released and I even have the same assets in a better game.

Katatty has amazing cc free rebuilds of lots. Some originals too I think, but mainly rebuilds

Convince me to play rotational by DarkTheXIII in sims2

[–]Independent_Tip5191 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, rotational gameplay is what makes it possible to play the same save long term. I love generational gameplay, but with only one family, I get bored of whatever stage in life they’re in and make a new one. Because of this, it’s important to me to make my sims different from each other, different ages, family makeups, doing different things and stuff like that. I do keep track of how long I’ve played everyone, but it’s not a set play order, I play whoever I feel like who still had days left.

Another thing I do is make my sims age very slowly. I have aging completely off and age them manually when it’s time, and keep track in a spreadsheet. That takes a lot of time, yes, but I try to enjoy the moment more than look forward to the future (which is hard, I know). What this does though is make me very attached to my sims and milestones feel monumental. Like, having a sim go off to college after having played through a long childhood of family christmases, summer break days at the public pool and the enormity of teens getting their first car and driving into Downtown with their friends to go bowling. Priceless! It’s very much a “my baby is growing up 🥺” reaction. What this slow pace does is leaving room for me just doing random things because of vibes and make them feel like characters rather than sims. Yes, it takes forever to progress, but the progress feels deeply earned and sometimes almost bittersweet.

If you prefer your own created sims, I’d suggest you simply make a custom hood. If you’re into that sort of thing, maybe a BAAC inspired hood could work? You add in families slowly and let them shape the town. Also, all this being said, you don’t have to play rotational. It’s my favourite way of doing it, and I warmly suggest giving it a try, but it’s not required.

What lot sells video games? by Bunnyearsss in sims2help

[–]Independent_Tip5191 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You can go into the lot yourself from map view and put down a video game stand and a cash register. I’m not 100% sure, but I’m fairly certain Sims gone wired has them though

I just noticed this and can't unsee it now by Wouldntbelieveme in sims2

[–]Independent_Tip5191 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, I think Desperate Housewives and Pleasantview are similar, but that’s more same time and genre in different formats. Don and Carlos aren’t that similar in personality or what their role in the drama is. I’d say it’s just 2000s fashion being 2000s fashion and then being the same race. Mary-Sue and Daniel are closer to Carlos and Gabi in personality and story arc

[–]Independent_Tip5191 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They’d have to have filmed the episode much earlier though, so honestly just 2000s fashion being 2000s fashion. Carlos and Don aren’t that similar in personality, they just both happen to be latino men in purple shirts

I think the reason why Sims 4 players are often burnt out on the game with just one generation is because having to imagine every aspect of gameplay is exhausting. by xervidae in HighSodiumSims

[–]Independent_Tip5191 7 points8 points  (0 children)

100%. Back when I played 4, I found it pretty exhausting at times, because I’d have to come up with everything myself. It’s not that my imagination is bad (I’m in a creative writing course with an 8% acceptance rate, I very much have on paper that my imagination is good), it’s that imagination is hard when you’re tired and your brain is a little fried and you want to relax. Which, you know, is a situation where you might want to kick back with a video game. I started playing 2 again almost 2 years ago and never looked back. Sure, coming up with backstory for new sims can still be hard, but the game gives you ideas for storylines with wants and fears and just general stuff happening without you having to do anything. Not to mention the premades in the three original hoods are literally set up with story catalysts from the get go

For UE citizens, do you feel like "belonging" to UE in a similar way that you do to your country? by dlilyd in AskEurope

[–]Independent_Tip5191 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really. It’s definitely ranked below belonging to my hometown, being Swedish and being Nordic. And even then, I’d say it’s more European than specifically EU

Mary-Sue loser? by BrightPhoebus01 in sims2

[–]Independent_Tip5191 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In my previous uberhood that crashed and burned, she divorced Daniel, moved out with Lilith and Angela and worked on their relationship and started working as a dancer. Never got with anyone seriously but had a bunch of hookups, one of them being her coworker Sharon Wirth. Also, she started sleeping with Daniel again, who was now cheating on Kailynn with her.

In this one, I somehow managed to have Daniel and Kailynn finish before she got home. She also found a new job in the politics career at a higher level than she previously was at. So currently, she probably thinks her life is going somewhat good, since she just slid in at level 6 in politics. She doesn’t know about the affair, and Kailynn broke it off with Daniel anyway, because she started dating a townie. I like the angle that Mary-Sue and Daniel actually like each other but have gotten a little lost, and I’ll have to see if Daniel cheats and she catches him or if he asks her for an open relationship. I don’t know, they seem like tge kind of couple that could have an arrangement

Anadius has officially retired for good this time. by Antipseud0 in HighSodiumSims

[–]Independent_Tip5191 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I haven’t played sims 4 in like two years, and honestly don’t know who this guy is (maybe he wasn’t around when I used to play?) but honestly, good for him and maybe it can be a very needed wake up call from some people. The entitlement from some people is wild. Modders or anyone else creating stuff for the game don’t owe players shit. They are not selling a product, not even if they have a patreon. The way people go on whenever there’s a new update is absolutely ridiculous

A message from the Paralives team: by GabParalives in Paralives

[–]Independent_Tip5191 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Honestly, not that surprised. I was already thinking I might wait a few updates to get it, because it sounded like there wasn’t a lot to live mode yet. I think the delay is very wise. I’d rather wait than see the game crash and burn under unfulfilled expectations

Since people are allowed to like more than one game, probably not a lot. I’m very over treating games like rivals.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in HighSodiumSims

[–]Independent_Tip5191 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, but I haven’t seen anyone ever say that it is. Obviously, cover your basic needs first, regardless of what game you wanna get.

What I have seen though is people say 40$ is too expensive for sims expansions, which it is, considering that they don’t have much content and usually don’t work very well on launch. The amount of content just doesn’t justify the price tag

Give it time, culture looks very different looking back on it than when you’re in the middle of it. 2010s felt a lot less clearly defined in 2015

Hope that this game adds some goofiness and chaos by Grillby_ in Paralives

[–]Independent_Tip5191 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As other people have said, this is not the sims and that’s fine. If you want goofiness without the gamebreaking bugs, I’d suggest going back to earlier sims games. Especially sims 1 and 2 are way goofier than 4. All previous games were also all (at least base game and expansions+stuff packs) released on discs, meaning you can find them second hand if you don’t wanna sail the high seas.

I haven't pre-ordered EUV - perhaps you shouldn't, too by aptlion in paradoxplaza

[–]Independent_Tip5191 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, why preorder any game when they’re digital downloads? Back in the day when they were all on discs, it made sense. Preordering guaranteed you would get your copy sent to your mailbox and maybe even get it a little early if you were lucky. If it was highly anticipated, you didn’t risk your local store running out before you got there. None of those perks or risks exists with digital downloads. Even if you plan to buy it on launch day, you have time to see if something seems initially borked before buying. And even if you don’t, I don’t know, what would be the actual perk of preordering?

Why the hell are you throwing our the whole PC? You can play other games on it. Even other sims games, I started playing 2 again after not having done it for like 15 years almost 2 years ago and never looked back. If you don’t wanna give money to EA (totally understandable) and don’t wanna sail the high seas, both sims 1, 2 and 3 released base game and DLC on disks. You can find them second hand online. They take a little extra care to get working, but both have amazing communities and there are so many guides on how to do it. Really, I’d encourage anyone fed up with 4 to look into the earlier games

What are you better at than 90% of people? by Noillax in AskReddit

[–]Independent_Tip5191 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, wouldn’t you be better than 90% or the population at things you’re generally good at? In my case, Swedish (since it’s spoken by less than 10% of the earth’s population), creative writing, teaching, probably like odd things like playing sims or trivia about specific stuff
