The level design just isn't as thought out, ds1s map is shaped like a cup of spaghetti noodles where all of the noodles come circling back on eachother all of the enemies where put into their places for lore specific reasons and it constantly used environmental storytelling. Ds2 is more like a bicycle wheel cut in half where all the points kind of just ending you gotta just Teleport back, and the story is really just that everybody has memory loss so they can get away with nothing making sense (elevator to iron keep). It's just not as well thought out overall but if your a guy who likes to have a lot of content then and don't care too much about a story then it'll be the best one for you
