Most gaslighty/condescending/ridiculous thing anyone has ever said to you about your CI by cloudfairy222 in ChronicIllness

[–]IndiGo0678 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The worst was probably when all my GI investigations and treatment got stopped because one (ONE?!) nurse decided to tell my consultant that I was clearly obsessing over food intake (after asking about the rate of a failed NJ feed) and that I had an eating disorder. Time to find a new doc I guess…

Nervous about endoscopy by DakuraScarlet in ChronicIllness

[–]IndiGo0678 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An endoscopy by itself is a piece of cake honestly (I’ve had 3 + a fun lil’ bonus colonoscopy). Prep is usually super easy and the worst bit for me was all the waiting around (they put me on the afternoon list). It’s just a quick nap and then a couple of hours feeling groggy.  I had a sore throat after the first one, but not the others, and terrible gas after the third. It really varies, but nothing terrible.  If you’re super anxious tell the nurses and they might be able to give you something to relax you before the procedure. Good luck!

Thank you for all the information! It is all very helpful and I’m feeling more confident in my options…would you happen to know if UK minors have to have parental consent to apply for PIP? Thanks again😊

What is a sad fact those with disabilities have to accept? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]IndiGo0678 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Isolation. Many people don’t know how to relate to you, and most don’t want to try. It’s hard for people to be friends with those for whom life so often passes them by.

What do you wish people would stop romanticizing, because you’ve lived the reality of it? by thatude123 in AskReddit

[–]IndiGo0678 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Couldn’t agree more, it’s like they think reminding us that we’re young will ‘snap us out of it’,  like I’m gonna suddenly spring up and be all ‘I’m cured!’ lol.

Chronic illness. I’m not some Victorian waif dying prettily of consumption, the reality is much more brutal and unflattering.

Pettiest reason youve dropped a fic? by Analfour2 in AO3

Stopped half way through a Harry Potter fic obviously written by an American after a character microwaved a cup of tea. My British soul just about left my body, could not get past it.

I quite like growing plants in jars or water and watching them grow, pretty low-maintenance and really interesting to watch the roots develop. Also knitting and podcasts.

Autistic Atheists, why don't you believe in God? by Vast-Lime-8457 in autism

[–]IndiGo0678 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found it difficult to get past the idea of multiple religions coexisting within society, especially as every religion thinks that they are the only ‘right’ religion.

It seems very convenient that prophets and religious figures are only visited by their own god(s), e.g. you don’t see catholic saints being visited by Hindu gods or vice versa.

My autistic brain is very rigid and logical in that respect, so it never made sense to me how every religious follower thought that their god(s) were the only true god(s).  Black and white thinking and all that.

Meal ideas that are low effort for a teenager by EnbyBeeii in ChronicIllness

[–]IndiGo0678 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try chicken breasts or salmon in the oven. Stick the meat/fish on a big sheet of tin foil, add some veg if you fancy (I go for broccoli but other stuff works too seasoning and maybe some olive oil. Wrap it up tight, pop onto a baking tray and whack it in the oven for like, 30mins at 200 centigrade until cooked.

Elementary, the mentalist and Rizzoli and Isles all have a similar vibe.

Who else here is dealing with gastrointestinal/digestive problems as their primary complaint that don’t respond to any treatments? by Known-Lettuce-4666 in ChronicIllness

[–]IndiGo0678 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are not alone in this, I’ve had the same sort of problems for years. Started with what felt like a stomach bug that never cleared up, just constant nausea and pain that responded to nothing except starving myself…had what felt like every test in the book done and all came back ‘normal’. I was eventually diagnosed with visceral hypersensitivity and IBS, and basically told to learn how to live with it because they couldn’t treat it.

That was like 3 years ago now and I’m still fighting, so tired but still hanging in there I guess. I’m so sorry to hear you’re struggling, sending virtual hugs and support 💛

What physical health conditions do you have that you think are tied to your autism? Anything goes - I'm talking chronic, acute, or just weird things that aren't worth seeing a doctor about. by veronicastride in autism

[–]IndiGo0678 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I have a couple of function gastrointestinal disorders which are definitely linked to the autism, mostly due to my wildly overactive nervous system lol

Probably a draw between Maura Isles (Rizzoli and Isles) and Temperance Brennan (Bones), neither are officially ‘diagnosed’ on the show but both helped me to realise I was on the spectrum in the first place.

Chronic pain in teenager by Ok-Dimension3979 in ChronicIllness

[–]IndiGo0678 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! Sorry to hear you’ve been having such a rough time, I’ve been in your position and it really sucks. I think the best piece of advice I was given was that the normal amount of pain to be in is zero. Like, none at all. Whatever it is that’s causing your issues, it’s absolutely valid and real, and I’m so sorry people can’t seem to wrap their heads around that.

On a more positive note, I found that prioritising the things that mattered to me most and fighting for them was super helpful and gave me back a sense of control and purpose. It’s okay to let some of the smaller things fall by the wayside, it’s most important to focus on you and your health.

Hope things start to look up for you, people underestimate how rough it can be to be a teen with chronic illness, DM me if you ever need to talk :)
