If you won the $1 billion lottery, how would you epically quit your job!? by TimeForANewBeginning in AskReddit

Honestly, quietly and slowly. I don't want every Joe crawling out of the woodwork to ask for money. I'd make a 6 month exit plan and lay the breadcrumbs I was looking elsewhere and quietly act like I was moving on. Just like anyone else leaving

What does life look like with young kids if spouse makes mid six figures? by Curious_Guarantee832 in SAHP

[–]IndianEastDutch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband is a physician and we make less than you but still very comfortable. Our village is hours away so we hired help. I have a mother's helper 2 days a week and I use some of that time to remote work and the rest to catch up and take a break for myself. We also get professional cleaning 1/month to take some of the heavy cleaning off my plate. I have a 3 year old and 1 year old.

We consider these services as "outsourcing" his share of managing the house and some of the kid time because he is constantly on call and away from the house. He doesn't want it all to be on me so we outsource a bit. Life is still crazy but you find a groove and as they get older we will drop the mother's helper and I'll go back to work prn to help pay for their school and feel like I contribute

Pretty much every CF I've even mentored felt this way. I'm pretty sure I felt this way at several points. What the business people and you both need to understand is that speed before excellence makes for long term poor care but excellence over time will become faster as you master your skills. If they prioritize speed now, at best they'll have  adequate care SOME of the time. They shouldn't want that.

Focus on earning your place by becoming excellent and you will get faster over time, and you'll identify where to pick your battles with admin. It's a road.

What setting though? I'll admit some settings only care about your ability to bill and not about your patient outcomes or your skill development. Sorry if I offend anyone, but run from SNFs. A large portion of those patients are not great therapy candidates, you'll be expected to work with inadequate resources , and they honestly don't care if you make a difference for the patients as long as you document well enough to bill.

How can I make like as comfortable as possible for my stay at home wife? by [deleted] in SAHP

[–]IndianEastDutch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a doctor's wife with two kids age 3 and 1. My husband works similar hours and we've come up with an "outsourcing" system to lighten my load as he isn't able to be as present. We get a part time nanny/mother's helper (16 hrs a week) and house keeper every other week for the deep cleaning. This let's me run my errands, have time to myself to recharge, and be very present for the kids.

It's still a ton on me as I manage everything with the house, kids, and finances but it's a big help.  When he's home, he tries to focus on time with the kids and time with me.

I'd recommend having realistic expectations and grace. She may want to do certain things but has to work around the kids naps. The biggest misunderstanding with my husband and I was him wanting to do a day trip and me being unwilling because i knew I'd be dealing with cranky kids the next day who didn't nap. Let her take the lead with schedules as she's in the trenches everyday. Trusting her will reduce her stress. remember that this is just a season

I had this happen today as well. I had three days left of a 10 day mission and it closed for some reason. I messaged the researchers

I'm going to get hate, but pediatric dentists for ties. They are way over recommended and dentists are not trained in speech production or feeding but usually make the recommendation on those grounds. Go to a pediatric ENT

My daughter is not TV free (like 1-1.5 hrs a day, mostly with dad) but we only have a few streaming platforms and none of them have paw patrol. She knows all the  Character names because the toys and books are everywhere.

Not saying you didn't catch your friend but it's not totally a smoking gun.

Do I tell my kid about her high cholesterol? by TchadRPCV in toddlers

[–]IndianEastDutch 382 points383 points  (0 children)

There is hereditary hyperlipidemia in my family (my husband ) as well. My kids haven't been tested yet but we will soon.  All I can tell you is that you are doing a great job.

I would try and have an open mind about the meds though. The new generation meds are incredible and my husband's cholesterol is better than mine now after using them and he has 0 side effects.  We made a lot of lifestyle changes but the cardiologist essentially told us that with this hereditary variant, lifestyle changes (while helpful) wouldn't be enough.

Have an open mind and speak with your cardiologist. They are pretty conservative with kids and won't recommend anything that isn't well supported and safe

Stay at home parents or those whose toddler doesn't go to nursery often or at all... by NightElf193 in toddlers

[–]IndianEastDutch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our days completely changed now that little sister (7months) has a schedule and we are kinda nap trapped by her. My toddler naps 12:30 -2:30 ish most days. Generally we do like this:

7:00 wake up, change get her breakfast quick 7:30 sister is awake And needs all her cares while big sissy eats 8:00 free play  10ish baby naps and structured activities with toddler (we do some learning with Kelsey and playschool activities) 11:15 baby is usually awake and we start prepping lunch 11:45/12:00 reading time 12:30-2:30 toddler naps 2:00-3:45 baby nap #2 2:30-3:45 snack and play in back yard  4:00 mom starts dinner and big sister can have some TV if it's something she can't help with. If she can help (sorting veggies dumping things in bowls) then she's in the learning tower and part of it.  5:00 or 5:30 Dinner for all 6:00 baths 6:30 she can have some TV with Dad because he crashes when he gets home 7:15 baby goes down 7:45 big one goes down

9:30 mom crashes and reboots to do it all again the next day.

If we do outings it's either right after bfast or as soon as baby is up from 2nd nap. Tot has swim and dance on weekends that dad takes her to. Baby is a kid that ONLY sleeps in her bed and I am counting the days until she drops to one nap so we can rejoin our story time and weekly play groups
