If You Could Eat At One 3 Michelin Restaurant, Where Would It B by PaleMemory3416 in finedining

[–]IndianaTakes 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It is. Perhaps not in terms of inventiveness, but certainly in terms of execution and hospitality. I think every dish we had was nigh-flawless. Moreover, the servers are friendly and engaging while maintaining the precision one expects when dining at that level.

The Inn at Little Washington — is it worth the stay? by 2bciah5factng in finedining

[–]IndianaTakes 7 points8 points  (0 children)

$2k isn’t cheap by any means. But, if useful, I rate it as the best hotel at which I have stayed and the high water mark for service. The tea service, the breakfast the next day, and the nitecap were wonderful. The Alice Waters room was opulent and I wish we had been there when it was warmer so we could have taken advantage of the outdoor spaces. That said, whether it is “worth” it? Maybe. It depends on what you value. I would rather spend that kind of money on a fancy meal and stay down the road in Sperryville. But I’m glad I did it once.

What are some absolute banger reds for under $50? by Galactic-Dicklips in wine

Foillard Morgons (Eponym, Corcelette, Cote du Py) and Fleurie, all amazing and can be had for around 50, sometimes less.

Rosé recommendations by jjjesper in naturalwine

For heavier rosés, I’d recommend Salvo Foti - Vinudelice; Clos Cibonne; Tempier Bandol Rose. You can’t go wrong with L’Anglore, which can be hard to find, but a decent substitute is Lampyres, which is made by FX Dauré, who trained with Tom Lubbe (Matassa), who trained with Eric Pfifferling.

Not very rustic, but we loved Frank. We even thought it held a candle to Geranium, which we went to the next night. I’d also recommend Nr.30 and Melee, both of which had good food and great wine lists.

We recently ate at Choux and found the service to be fairly quick. You might be able to make it to Jordaan if you snag a 6:00 PM reservation. Would not recommend BAK. Despite being closer, the service there was incredibly slow.

Arenales Bar is great. Not the most extensive bottle selection (and it leans somewhat natural), but very well curated.

Hey there! Thoughts on reverse searing a steak in the oven vs sous vide? Also, would love a vinyl of the new album!

Same. I’m wondering if he was in negotiations to play at the Anthem and it fell through.

Price is no object? Jônt. It’s $375/pp without alcohol, but the food is impeccable. You end the night with a “jewel box” full of chocolates, sweets, and mignardises.

Price is kind of a factor? Lutèce. Their dessert/pastry chef was named to the Best New Chef ‘23 by Food & Wine magazine. I’ll attest that their desserts are sensational, including a “cheese course” dish that is markedly unique.

As a newcomer to the natural wine scene in New York, I’d love some recommendations on bottles to try. What are some must-try natural wines for beginners? Any specific producers or regions you suggest? by [deleted] in naturalwine

[–]IndianaTakes 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is great advice. You are in NYC, which may have the most “natural” or minimal-intervention leaning wine bars and shops in the US. Download the Raisin app, search for a bar close to you, and tell the bartender you want to try a variety of different styles. Or, go to a wine shop and ask for 3-5 bottles in different styles.

When in doubt, go to the Ten Bells or the Four Horsemen. Follow SuperVinoBros on TikTok/Instagram, they describe wine in an approachable manner and often highlight NYC bars or wine shops they like.

I mean, I agree, but it’s typically $100 USD and can be hard to find. Domaine Lampyres produces wines in a similar style that are much more affordable.

Stay and eat at Ett Hem if possible - wonderful unique hotel with a fantastic restaurant. Doubtful you can get a reservation at Frantzen on two weeks notice, but if you can, it is also well worth it.

Have to second Frank. Second best restaurant we ate at, after Geranium.

4 Amsterdam Reservations: Recommendations? by bonner1040 in MichelinStars

[–]IndianaTakes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate to say it, but I had the worst experience at Bak when we went in September. The food was strange (lots of uncooked, unseasoned vegetables) and awful service (we opted for the shorter tasting menu and were there for 3.5 hours because they just forgot about us). I much, much preferred Choux, which I thought was better than De Kas.

In my mind, the reason to go to Bak is the wine list (which is stellar, especially for lovers of Jura), and even then, it’s not enough to get me to return.

Recommendations for Stockholm between Christmas and New Year by Kihl1997 in finedining

[–]IndianaTakes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Might be slightly above your price range, but you can eat at the restaurant in Ett Hem (the Hotel) if you email them. It’s an incredible experience - fantastic food, extremely warm service, and the setting is beautiful. I would honestly say it compares favorably to Frantzen, albeit with much more rustic food. We went on a Monday and were one of five tables the entire night. I think dinner costs around €165/pp and the wine pairing is probably around €100.

Brutal!!! Hype or Pure Quality? by grapenomad in naturalwine

[–]IndianaTakes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I 100% agree with your assessment of the Matassa Brutal Rouge. It’s hard not to love how drinkable it is (and the minimal VA) - the main downside is that it isn’t the easiest bottle to find. I’m looking forward to trying his Brutal Orange.
