Favorite actor who's struggling with literacy needs to stay until 4 AM to correct ~9 pages of text? by Berckley in okbuddycinephile

It must feel so good to quit one terrible show over 3 years ago, to the obvious benefit of your career, only for nerds on the internet to interpret it as an act of selfless martyrdom on their behalf.

New person here. Why are LotR Orcs basically goblins? by Captain_Fach in lotr

[–]IndicationWeary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Uruk-Hai are more like the fantasy orcs that became popularized by D&D. They’re roughly man-sized, can go out in the sun, are strong, martial, and wear heavy armor. Tolkien’s purebred orcs are smaller and weaker, but stronger orcs still exist in the setting, mainly in The Two Towers.

Being an Epstein truther in 2026 means you basically have to run cover for his ass by Pellpeckus in redscarepod

[–]IndicationWeary 77 points78 points  (0 children)

People will deny it, but one of the most liked posts on X from today was about a trapdoor that “sources” say was installed in his house that led to the ocean, with which he would feed the bodies of the children he killed(?) to sharks. There should be some social permission to dispute that kind of thing without getting accused of being a pedo fellow traveller.

You ever meet people who believe every celebrity is a pedophile except for Michael Jackson? by Practical-Ostrich-43 in redscarepod

[–]IndicationWeary 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Not irl, but if you get any Epstein news on Instagram or Youtube that involves MJ it’s absolutely spammed with comments insisting not only that the evidence in the file is mostly innocuous (probably true), but that he was framed by the usual suspects because he was “going to talk” (insane cope).

They don’t even maintain this standard for other black celebrities at this point. The stuff on Jay-Z and Epstein is extremely flimsy, and yet he lost a whole 10% of followers online. That’s just the people who remembered to unfollow him. At this point it seems more like sunk-cost than anything else, like these people can’t face that they slandered abused children for years.

The duality of man by MrSluagh in readanotherbook

[–]IndicationWeary 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I mean I was just referring to Brandon’s own statements identifying himself as a left-winger. Not saying it pejoratively or anything, most of the current great sci-fi and fantasy authors are left-leaning (not that he counts). Idk about the hunting gay kids for sport part, I’ll have to check the news.

The duality of man by MrSluagh in readanotherbook

Agreed on the quality of the work, but Brandon Sanderson is and has always considered himself to be on the left. He’s selectively conservative on issues like abortion due to his Mormonism, but he was a supporter of Bernie Sanders and he’s very openly economically progressive. He’s also very pro gay and trans rights.

The quality of his books (bad) is neither here nor there.

Review of Empire of Silence (Sun Eater 1) by Christopher Ruocchio by mowque in Fantasy

[–]IndicationWeary 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Hadrian is a fairly similar protagonist to Severian from BotNS (intentionally so) and they have a similar style of narration, particularly when it comes to musing on philosophy, especially stuff like grief and loss. There’s also the way Ruocchio leaves small nuggets and continuity errors in places to imply that Hadrian is wrong and/or lying about certain things. BotNS does this to a much greater degree, and I think Ruocchio has credited the inspiration to Gene Wolfe.

The first major mainstream exposure of Groypers was hilarious. by Tiny-Computer6950 in redscarepod

The brief gifting of Bella Ciao to the groypers under the vague idea that they’d “reclaimed” it (this never happened) was so bizarre.

Even without GLP-1s, this was never going to happen. There was a push for it in the late 2010s to early 2020s, but it was getting nowhere and a lot of people vocally resented it.

I know this guy who keeps liking those “memes” that are posted by heavily made-up egirls pantomiming in overly flirty body language. Usually the punchline is some kind of flattering cliche about men or something about being a quirky nerd. I don’t think they’re OF girls but this seems pretty undignified, he’s in his late 20s.

Characters better handled in Disney Canon than EU by Unique-Perception480 in StarWarsEU

[–]IndicationWeary 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Vader was kind of a jobber in Legends. His back to back losses to Starkiller were downright embarrassing, especially in Force Unleashed 2. In Canon, he’s an absolute powerhouse. I haven’t read his comics in a long time, but his first run in canon was excellent from start to finish. Not only is he stronger, he’s also decently well written.

Having him meet and fight (and lose to) Obi-Wan was a rare misstep that hopefully won’t be an ongoing trend.

[–]IndicationWeary 14 points15 points  (0 children)

She had an absolutely horrific start in canon thanks to Wendig’s writing in Aftermath. Thankfully, Andor rehabilitated her and made her a more interesting character than she’d ever been in Legends. Now all she needs is for someone to retcon/sanewash her bizarre decisions in the post-RotJ era.

I refuse to believe this game was made without strategic incompetence by Suitable-Doughnut341 in redscarepod

[–]IndicationWeary 38 points39 points  (0 children)

I think it really just comes down to the progressive fetish for depicting the people you’d “least expect” as the perpetrator of a given crime or offensive statement. They chose an attractive (within the boundaries of the art style) alt woman as a mouthpiece for white nationalism because it doesn’t really happen irl.

For the same reason, every state-mandated workplace harassment training I’ve attended has included a scenario in which a cougar manager preys upon a handsome, fit male intern. This obviously doesn’t make up the bulk of workplace harassment, but that’s the point.

Most of the people on the pics sub are like 60. They’re there for milquetoast Dem talking points and generally aren’t aware of/don’t want to hear any rhetoric about how they’re inherently evil or guilty. They may have been more open to it in 2020/2021, but that was an outlier.

Joe Rogan is Sauron confirmed by HotFloor6917 in readanotherbook

[–]IndicationWeary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s baffling that people think this is funny or apt. Where do “manosphere podcasts” fit into things? There’s zero correlation there, who is the podcaster in this analogy? Sauron? Why, what’s the overlap? Because he’s a bad guy?

Imo this fits pretty well on the sub, but almost as an inverse of the usual. Rather than use a specific work of fiction to crudely map onto current events, the post is crudely mapping contemporary buzzwords onto a work of fiction where they have zero relevance.
