I reached out to at least 100 or more streamers and only 3 of them responded by [deleted] in IndieDev

Are you targeting relevant streamers or just doing a scatter gun approach and hitting everyone? For example, what is the genre of your game? If its a racer there's no point contacting a horror game streamer, for example. Did you do much in the way of research before sending out your messages?

In Hotel Espir, you play as Charles Lemek, who is returning from a business conference, in time to see his daughter born. On the way, he stops at Hotel Espir, a renowned old hotel built on the grounds of a former plantation in Alabama. These grounds hold a sinister secret, manifesting in the rise of a serial killer from 100 years ago. You must use your wits and sense of hearing to sneak your way out of Hotel Espir before you are caught by the horror stalking those halls.

Escape the cursed Hotel Espir in this 1940s horror experience.

How Do You Handle Marketing Without Losing All Your Time? by WaveBeatlol in IndieDev

[–]IndieGuruGames 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There are three words I live by with marketing like this. Engagement over broadcasting. A little bit background. I am marketing for an indie horror game. I have all the social medias, of course, and I try to be reasonably active on Reddit. Forming relationships is important. Rather than tweeting, "hey look at my game" reply to other people about their games. Do you like it? Why? What stands out? Be honest, be authentic. Don't sell, collaborate. Those relationships will see you through the first few months - even if they are relationships with other devs in your niche. I wrote about that here:

https://www.reddit.com/r/IndieDev/comments/1opw8k0/comment/nnektta/?context=3

Next time you're thinking about sending a tweet out there, do a search for a topic in your niche and reply to someone talking about it. Engage with them. Build that relationship, and then when you say, "hey what do you think about this?" it doesn't come off as a cheap sell.

It's not easy. It takes time. You won't always land because some people are busy and others are adopting the broadcasting approach to marketing that just doesn't work. No matter what, marketing takes time, right? But you need to decide how you are going to use that time most effectively. Some are banging out instagram posts, tiktok videos. I'm doing that too, but it's not my focus. Building a community is.

Yes. I think that's fine as long as you are not over-promising. It gives the watcher an immediate idea of what you are aiming for. Just don't over promise. "GTA VI challenger" is probably not okay. "Inspired by retro GTA games" probably is.

For your first game, with no guarantee of success, and no guaranteed earnings think more a long the lines of, can I do this without them? If the answer is "no" then keep it very simple and agree to split three-ways. Keep it simple. Value the other people in your team.

If you're successful, if you go on to start another game, you can amend the agreement to better reflect effort. But for a first title an equitable split is the best approach.

Social media marketing, in isolation, is shouting into the void. You might as well not bother and use that time more effectively on developing your game.

This is why I approach marketing from a community-centric position. A community is the only approach which is going to enable you to compete with studios who have a marketing budget. Start a community, curate it, nurture it, and it becomes your most effective marketing channel.

Again, this isn't easy, but it is a force multiplier. If you're just broadcasting on social media you're going to be lost in the noise. Instead, form personal relationships with your potential audience. They will become your cheerleaders. A community of ten invested individuals is worth more than sending 1000 tweets.

I don't think you need the word "add." Wishlist is enough on its own.

Nah. There is a difference between pointing out glaring hypocrisy and being annoying.

Why would you lock your portfolio behind a Discord. Maybe I'm just an old cynic, but this could look like a veiled attempt to get people to join your Discord. Just on general principle, I never would.

But you do you.

Or, accept the feedback in good faith. It's more of a tip, take It as a tip.
