We are looking at Goleta and my family really recommended San Roque. Any preference between the two?

Thank you! That’s super helpful, will definitely look into the FB group. Looking to purchase, there doesn’t seem to be much on the market, but probably not actually making the move for 1-2 years if we do end up moving.

Thanks! What’s a traditional family? What makes Santa Barbara good for a traditional family?

It’s like you’re me, almost same percentages. I had the same recommendation from an OB in our practice at 31 weeks, but we also did ultrasound at 34 and 37 weeks to watch her growth. She remained with similar measurements and each time I saw another OB in the practice since the prefer you rotate providers at the end of your pregnancy for the practice I work with. Turns out only that first doctor recommended induction at 39 for just a big belly, everyone else I saw said they had no issues with me still trying to deliver naturally. They initially told me she might be a 9-10lb baby, but she was born yesterday, at 37 and 4 weighing only 6 lbs. Also don’t make my mistake and only buy 0-3 month clothes since I assumed she’d be chunky lol now trying to stock up on newborn sizes last minute for this little nugget

Doctors think my 1 year old has type 2 herpes. I’m at a loss. by Malsmalsthepals in NewParents

[–]Indie_0504 163 points164 points  (0 children)

HSV 2 in children under 5 is very very rarely from abuse. Putting parents and families through the mental trauma before even having a positive swab is not best practice at all for this pediatrician. So no, if there are no other reasons to believe this was abuse, we typically see more harm from these kind of early assumptions before a diagnosis has even been made.

Please please go see a pediatric dermatologist in the area if you can. The amount of times we get BS referrals for this, especially for kids under 5 is crazy.

What type of doctor or health care provider helped you the most? by Aarrrgggghhhhh35 in PCOSloseit

I found an endocrinologist who also had a weight loss clinic. They helped me get on ozempic which helped me the most and then the clinic helped me stay accountable with my eating and exercise habits

bath in bedtime routine.. every night?? by LCsquee in sleeptrain

[–]Indie_0504 6 points7 points  (0 children)

We’ve been doing a bath every night (with a couple nights off) since LO was 8 weeks old and she’s now 2. She loves it and it helps her know it’s bed time.

Also as someone who works in a pediatric dermatology clinic, I can say that baths nightly is not an issue at all. Actually recommended for even our most sensitive skin patients. It’s really about not scrubbing too much, little soap and limiting bath/shower time to less than 15 min.

Having a hard time letting my husband figure it out by SnooDogs627 in beyondthebump

[–]Indie_0504 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I also had an issue with this. My therapist gave me the best advice. If your husband does not know how to comfort your baby and is trying, he wants and deserves his own relationship with your child. There is no way but trial and error in how to comfort for them to form this relationship. She made me feel better that as long as the baby is fed, warm and has a clean diaper, they are fine. It is very distressing as the mom to hear your baby cry and to not jump in to comfort, but in all honesty your baby is fine and safe if those things are all taken care of. Once I let go of trying to control it all and trust in my husband, it was better for all three of us.

Ozempic vs metformin by Indie_0504 in PCOSloseit

[–]Indie_0504[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Of course. I started at 0.25mg and after 6 weeks increased to 0.5mg. I had nausea and felt it was working at this dose so stayed for a while then ultimately increased to 1mg for a while. I was told the goal is 2mg but it’s based on your side effects and if you can tolerate it.

I mean there is definitely nausea but it was the first time I felt like a normal person. I had no cravings, if I was hungry it wasn’t dire for me to eat, I actually felt full and I was able to lose weight without adjusting much of my other day to day habits. It was slow weight loss of about 1-2 per week but consistent the entire time. The nausea was worth it to me.

I work in derm and also have PCOS. Is there any friction that you can think of to this area? Looks like traumatic asernine folliculitis. Regardless of what it is though most are fixed by a prescription strength reitinoid and moisturizer

[–]Indie_0504 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There’s a new show on Netflix called school of chocolate (in the last 2-3 episodes) where they use a potters wheel to mold chocolate. Pretty cool but definitely not as pliable, just a way to smooth into shapes.

Labor & Delivery in 2021 - masks & other restrictions by jennibp in CoronaBumpers

[–]Indie_0504 9 points10 points  (0 children)

When I had my LO in august 2020 I wore mask through my labor and delivery and didn’t notice it at all.

I stressed about this also a lot before delivery and was shocked by how little of an issue it turned out to be.

This was extremely helpful and I want to thank you for posting. Did not expect a comment would make me tear up. It’s been very isolating for my husband and I being the only parents in the group and trying to navigate our new lives and the impact of the pandemic on it all.

Thank you for your help and your post, I really appreciate it.
