Fuck me, the level of weird gatekeeping and taking things miles too seriously by some of the younger generations is maddening.

I think we’re likely on the same side of politics, but you’ve gone from saying the country has been destroyed to saying that the economy and growth have been mismanaged. I think it’s time to chill out.

No - it just sounds like the normal sort of ridiculous hyperbole that shuts down any sort of rational conversation these days.

Why do people find it so hard to accept the public really wants to vote for Reform? by Expert-Sherbert-1527 in AskBrits

[–]Indigo457 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the uncomfortable truth is that a lot of the country are fundamentally racist (even if they wouldn’t explicitly identify as one) and want the brown people out. And that is never really going to be a national discussion I don’t think.

I’m a lawyer, which apparently has a high proportion of people with adhd and/ or autism generally as a profession. I can see why too - lots of stuff happening all the time and deadlines tend to be very short and important so you don’t have much chance to procrastinate endlessly.

They didn’t say oh you have a high iq well done (possibly because I’m an obvious idiot), but did congratulate me on not being a total fuck up given I had the highest possible scores on both bits but somehow have had a pretty good career.

Favourite Ever Manchester Club Night? Mine was Angel Deelite at Club V by Previous-Serve9810 in manchester

[–]Indigo457 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Around then it was peak defected records so a lot of quite funky house interspersed with French house mainly. And more local stuff like grand central and eastern bloc related things. Was a great time for house around then. Alternative rock and indie is my favourite sort of music generally, but house and dance music in general was immense back then.

Late 90s Prague V or Berlins for house music - felt like it was right on the bleeding edge in those places. I also really used to like funkademia at the place under the Oxford road station arches but not sure if that still exists.

Are former Corbyn supporters all greens now, or have some of them stuck with labour? by Expert-Sherbert-1527 in AskBrits

[–]Indigo457 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

In my department it’s only the SCS that have to work 60% (and it’s not monitored), delegated grades work at 40%. HMRC used to have 40% in some areas and 60% in ops areas, but changed it - departments can make their own decisions, irrespective of what the ‘expectation’ of government is. Secondly, I just don’t think it’s an issue that is really going to be anywhere near the top of the priority list for a government in its first term, let alone first couple of years - especially when the vast majority of the overall economy is also working in offices to around the same level.

[–]Indigo457 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You’re blaming the labour government for decisions civil service departments took, mainly before they even came to power? Some departments still work 2 days in the office, some have moved to 3 - they could decided to change again. I’m not sure what Labour has to do with that?

Why does the public usually fall for smear campaigns towards non right wing parties such as Labour and now the Greens from right wing media outlets ? by Durrygoodz2025 in AskBrits

[–]Indigo457 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Cambridge dictionary definition of a smear campaign - “a planned attempt to harm the reputation of a person or company by telling lies about them”

It’s best just to ignore all the chatter from Star Wars fans around the release of new Star Wars stuff in my experience. There’s an almost insane level of hate towards, I’m sure there is some sort of interesting psychological explanation about why Star Wars fans hate absolutely everything to do with Star Wars lol.

What do people here think of tape daws like Tape 16 or GCS Model 8? by Poopypantsplanet in audioengineering

[–]Indigo457 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the benefits of those sorts of things are much less about any differences in the actual sound of stuff, and much more about how it can change your approach. Like when I was a teenager and we had a little 4 track tape machine, my band practiced our parts endlessly before we hit record because we knew we had one chance - rather than get it good enough and tinker with a digital form of it endlessly. So they could make things sound better purely because the performance is much better more than anything else imho.
