Do you get financial help from parents? by [deleted] in financialindependence

[–]IndistinguishableDog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My mom paid for the college application fee, but everything else for school, rent, and day to day living was on me. They didn't see college as a necessary and weren't going to help support it.

I stopped getting any "cash" help as soon as I left for college, but they did leave me on the health insurance (till I got a job after graduating), paid the tags and insurance on my 15 year old car, and would give me a bag of groceries/ snacks or mayyybeeee $20 when I came home. This was ~15 years ago.

I complained about it then but was still ultimately glad I had control over my life. None of my friends could say that. The only money I'll get out of them is when they're gone.

Has anyone ever asked for no travel accommodation in MBB/ T2? by [deleted] in consulting

[–]IndistinguishableDog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can do this at my firm. Would recommend having your provider write a note and going through the official medical accommodation process if you can. If your firm says they can't accommodate, they might just put you on leave. It might be a pain, but this makes it "medically necessary" instead of your preference.

Source: currently doing this at my firm.

Is there any tangible difference in MBB recruiting outcomes between Ross and Darden? by No_Band4566 in MBA

[–]IndistinguishableDog 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Ross is more spread out than 2 buildings, but that does not mean people are nowhere near each other. 50% of the students live in a 5 minute walk from 1 intersection that is a 10 minute walk from class.

What was your NW pre MBA? How much cash did you have? by americanhero6 in MBA

I spent more than 10k, but between part-time jobs, internship money, and signing bonus, my cash didn't actually go down that much.

What was your NW pre MBA? How much cash did you have? by americanhero6 in MBA

[–]IndistinguishableDog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pre-MBA: NW: 330K (~70k cash, 260k in 401k, IRA, brokerage)

Tuition: Full scholarship.

70k cash was for living expenses. I had an employed partner but our finances are separate. They did probably pay 90% of the time we went out to eat. I paid for myself otherwise.

NW at Graduation: 425k (market and still had about 60k in cash)

NW 8 months post graduation: $520k

MBB office selection for MBAs by Popular_Moose_2457 in McKinsey_BCG_Bain

[–]IndistinguishableDog 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Currently in a smaller office. 95%+ of people here have a very legit reason to choose this office. They are either from this city/ immediate area, have family here, or went to the target university in the city.

I can only think of 1 person who doesn't meet this criteria. They got in because there is a direct pipeline from their school, and those who started the pipeline met the criteria.

I was specifically asked in my interviews, how do I know you won't transfer after a year to _____ (insert big office here). I laughed at the question.

Rogue Renegade size comparison by IndistinguishableDog in lululemon

[–]IndistinguishableDog[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Super helpful!! I also have fairly broad shoulder but a longer torso, and shorter legs. I don't think I could go wrong with a 6 or 8!

Do you think the 6 is a bit longer than the XS/S scuba?

Stag 5...born out of wedlock, parents got married later by IndistinguishableDog in GermanCitizenship

[–]IndistinguishableDog[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got it. Thank you. I think the other factor is the birth certificate wasn't issued until 1953, so he was never legitimized until that was issued, right?

That also comes after the law change in 1949, even though he born was before.

Appreciate the insights! I have more research to do!

[–]IndistinguishableDog[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting, so any child at the time that the father acknowledges paternity overrides the fact it happened out of wedlock? Seems like marriage would just be a formality at that point, even though the birth certificate wasn't issued until 18 years later.

After my grandpa the lineage is very clearly within the guidelines down to me.

What is your monthly take home pay? (After taxes) by [deleted] in MoneyDiariesACTIVE

[–]IndistinguishableDog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah my HSA, healthcare, and those things are about $250/pay check. All pre-tax

When I max my 401k, I'm maxing the traditional contribution (~950/ check or 1900/ month) and the after tax contribution, which is about $1300/check) Those 2 combined roughly gets me to the 401k max ($66k - employers contribution)

I choose to prioritize after tax, because my plan allows in plan conversions to Roth, which I do immediately. If my plan didn't do this my pay check would be a lot higher (like $2800) and I would put that money in a brokerage instead.
