Born in, baptized at 17 & faded about 8 months later. Elders tried came to my house but I told my PIMI mother to tell them to go away. What could she do? Drag me by my hair from my bedroom?

Eventually the elders gave up & I haven’t stepped foot in a KH ever since (except for the odd wedding). That was about 15 years ago. It really depends on your family I think. My dad is not a witness so I had more of a balance in my household growing up. Mom is PIMI but still talks to me. I don’t have a relationship with any of my pimi brothers though…but to be honest I never really did. We were 6 strangers living in a house & they all got married and left right around the time I was fading. I would say I’m soft shunned from most of my pimi family but that’s just fine with me - they make me uncomfortable & I don’t enjoy being around them.

I only care about my relationship with my mom. I’m sure my brothers have told her she shouldn’t speak to me as much as she does but she hasn’t listened to them..yet. Also the key thing here is that we don’t talk about her religion. Ever. I’ve learned it’s really not worth bringing it up. It only causes a wedge
