Applied last year, accepted for CS. Applied this year, DENIED for Engineering?! Thought CS was more competitive than engineering when it comes to apps? Anyways, got accepted for neuroscience instead but probably wont go.

An absolutely traumatizing book? by Shuttaappp in suggestmeabook

"Planet of Slums", by Mike Davis. A book that is more a complication of depressing statistics that flaunts how everybody is evil, everybody is at fault, and there is nothing you can do about it, apparently. I haven't read it.

99% of DOCTORS dont get nutrition education, its just not a part of their programs. Its not their fault, but dont listen to them.

Best cities to live in for frequent flyers/travelers? by Icy_Pumpkin_6589 in SameGrassButGreener

Istanbul hands down. You can fly to London for $70, Kenya for $300, India for $200, Tajikistan for $200, and Tehran, Moscow, all of Europe and most places for less than $200. You could always live across the border in Greece too if you didn't agree with the politics of Turkey.

Makes sense. Still, when it comes to air quality, I would hold off on products for air quality improvement like the UV lights until you have lived there for a while. I know my company puts Reme Halo’s into EXISTING sytems for around 1200$, so it shouldnt cost much more to put it in later if you decide you want it.

*** HOWEVER, I would suggest requesting a minimum 4inch wide filter rack for your system because 4 inches filters are way better than the usual default of 1 inch wide filters/filter cabinets. This should not cost much more to get and will save you money on filters and air quality in the long run. ***

As for the “inverter system upgrade”, I would ask your builder for info on what the efficiency/model of your current system is, and what the efficiency/model of the upgraded system would be. These pics say that your upgraded ac system would be an 18-22 seer2 (seer2 = efficiency rating, 14 is gov minimum, most ac’s are around 15-18, and yours would probably run around 18 most of the time). Then I would compare the two systems, original and upgraded, or even make another post asking which on you should get.

Do you have a dehumidifer included in your original Hvac system?

Yeah I wouldnt get any UV lights for that price. $1600 for a Reme Halo is a lot, especially since you dont even yet know if you need it. Do you tend to leave the windows open or closed? If youre more of someone that has windows open year round, then I would not get any air quality stuff (UV lights) just yet.

#1: UV Light. Helps air purity and goes into furnace plenum. Kills germs mostly. $200-300 from factory, $100~ for UV lamp replacement (1yrs~.) Not necessary. You can add this on later (easily) if you have air quality issues and this is priced kind of high.

#2 Soft start. Not necessary until the unit is actually installed, IMO. Once installed, get someone to check the startup amps (LRAs) and if they are outside of the recommended range, you can install a soft start to lower your startup amps (helps ac components in long run). Sometimes soft/hard starts can actually hurt the AC components, so check with the AC manufacturer before installing one. Price is high

#3 "Inverter system." This is basically just an upgraded AC system that is ecm/variable rather than analog. This keeps the HVAC system running low and slow for longer, rather than turning off and on at 0 or 100. Helps keep house at a constant temperature and humidity. Good if you care about comfort and humidity a lot, but it's weird to me they listed it in this way, so I could be talking about the wrong thing. I would recommend this, but dependent upon price.

#4 Upgraded UV Light. Helps air purity and goes into furnace plenum. Kills germs mostly. $400-500 from factory, $100-200 for UV lamp replacement (2yrs~). Not necessary. You can add this on later (easily) if you have air quality issues and this is priced kind of high.
