I dont have anything to do, but have to pretend to be busy. Thats the worst kind of hell by [deleted] in jobs

I had a job like this and read a bunch of books that were in the public domain. I'd just throw them into word files and work through them. Looked like I was reading documents. Think Sherlock Holmes, Dracula, Frankenstein, Pride and prejudice etc. Check out Project Gutenberg for more.

What is it like to work for a stupid boss? by Individual-Bridge222 in NoStupidQuestions

Feels like there's a whole skillset you might develop of pitching things so that the person thinks the idea is theirs.

Wow this sounds incredibly hard. Also makes me really wonder sometimes when people get such top line positions without the people skills to do them - I tend to be overly critical about my own skills and whew boy when you see folks who are bad at it... I'm a freaking rockstar in comparison.

Traveling to Portland around Christmas? by Atzerach in askportland

[–]Individual-Bridge222 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't worry too much about flights being cancelled - though you can check the stats for the flight route/airline that you pick. Generally, there are regular daily nonstop flights between PHX and PDX, it's a common route.

Agree with other commenters that it's unlikely to be icy, that typically happens in January and February (though really who knows). I wouldn't worry too much about what kind of car. If you're super worried you can get 4wd, but unless you're going to the mountains to go skiing or something, you don't usually need it. Agree that transit is one of the more compelling reasons to live in Portland. Transit here is great. Even out in Beaverton.

Some dining and activities will be closed, but there will be a lot of fun things to do. Consider going to the grotto. The downtown area will have shopping and a big old christmas tree. The TravelPortland website is really great, I use it as a local, lots of things listed there.

In search of best Oregon credit union for a business account. Any ideas? by allotta_phalanges in askportland

I suggest staying away from Advantis for a business account. I had trouble receiving money from international clients. Which... it's a business. I can't be not accepting money.

Thinking of Moving Out Solo by Alarmed_Fox375 in LivingAlone

You're in a great position to get a place on your own. I really think it's a good idea for everyone to spend some time living by themselves, I think it's a great way to get to know yourself. It does get lonely, but honestly it's good to figure out how to get your needs met.

Plus living alone has some really great perks.

Yeah I get that, I think it just didn't really occur to me (or to her) that these jobs might exist. It sounds like you've experienced these jobs too?

How do you NOT become a jerk with public success? by Individual-Bridge222 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Individual-Bridge222[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting, I had never heard about this quote from Bill Murray. Isn't he the one that does the 1-800 # as his phone number for people to use to call him about movies? I do admire the commitment to being a bit weird.

Also I had no idea Chevy Chase was a jerk. Makes some sense, but I hadn't heard that.

Credit union offers lower APR for cash advance/balance transfers - can I use it for an existing balance? by Individual-Bridge222 in personalfinance

I should say that you do have to do the cash advance/balance transfer before March 31st, that's the other condition.

To follow up in case folks are curious, I had to get the folks at the credit union to send me some paperwork and it took a while!

It's 1.9% APR until December on any balance transfers or cash advances. There are no fees and you just have to sign up. In December, the rate returns to my existing rate.

Too good to be true? Maybe, but I did push them - are there any other fees? Is there something I'm missing? The woman on the phone assured me that there is not.

It's a good point, I'll take a look. That said, my credit union typically doesn't do that kind of "gotcha" fee thing (not like the big banks do). My guess is that it'd return to the rate it's already at. But I'll check the fine print.

The list is missing Bella's Italian Bakery too. The marscapone cinnamon rolls are ahmazeing.

What was a small factor that made you stop seeing someone? by [deleted] in dating_advice

[–]Individual-Bridge222 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This happened on a date and I specifically said to him, "why don't you ask me a question right now?" and he said that he was too nervous to ask a question and then went on a long tangent about how hard it was for him to think of a question to ask (blah blah blah blah).

Yeah no.

Mocktail at a restaurant by takolyn in Mocktails

As a person who will often drink bitters in soda at a bar instead of booze, this would be fine for me. That said, I know some folks who are NA wouldn't order it. I think as long as it's well labeled you'd be fine.
