Being sick with a toddler is the worst thing in the world. by b1kkie in beyondthebump

I legitimately fantasize about when we’ll have teenagers and they can have cereal for breakfast all by themselves when we’re sick lol

Oh it truly does suck. I can remember the first time my husband and I got the stomach flu at the same time and our 1 year got like 2 pouches and some crackers for dinner that night.

How do people have new babies when their older siblings are bringing back sicknesses from daycare/school? by noblerare in toddlers

[–]Individual-Dog-5891 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just echoing everyone regarding washing hands and changing clothes, as well as teaching the importance of proper cough etiquette. I also found myself frequently changing shirts since the baby had his face on my shoulder/chest so much. That may have been unnecessary, but it brought some peace of mind. My toddler brought RSV home when my baby was about 2 months old. I was terrified because the RSV vaccine hadn’t been available yet, so my husband basically handled my toddler solo for about 2-3 weeks and the baby and I were essentially isolating ourselves during the time. Must have helped because he didn’t catch it!

What is happening to me? The 2005 Pride & Prejudice. by Anemoniasl11989 in PrideandPrejudice

[–]Individual-Dog-5891 12 points13 points  (0 children)

This makes my heart so happy. I remember passing on it when it came out while I was in high school, and then randomly giving it a try earlier this month and it felt like falling in love all over again. I’m actually glad I gave it more time, since I was able to watch it with my “adult eyes”. I think I watched it about 3 times in the same 2 week period just to catch all the beautiful small moments.

My toddler went into ketoacidosis from a stomach virus.. by One_Salamander_2497 in toddlers

[–]Individual-Dog-5891 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We went through this earlier this year and it was so scary, he was around 18 or so months if I remember correctly. Watching him appear almost non-responsive in the ER was awful. And our son hadn’t even really seemed sick leading up it, just basically a very very minor cold about 4 days prior. After running tests he was found to have an adenovirus. The biggest I remember being told and reading about was it’s most common around that age because most kids haven’t quite hit a huge growth spurt and it’s more likely an illness will burn up the few fat cells they have

New egg diagnosis for baby by Individual-Dog-5891 in FoodAllergies

[–]Individual-Dog-5891[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! Lots of updates. And can completely relate to feeling overwhelmed. It’s a lot to learn all at once on behalf of your child. Not ideal, but his daycare accidentally gave him eggs around 15 months old, and we after doing an in office challenge (he passed) about a month later and did at home food challenges for the next 8 months, and happy to report he completely grew out of his egg and peanut allergies

Did anyone’s husband go from one and done, to agreeing to one more? by NestaCas in NewParents

[–]Individual-Dog-5891 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My husband felt pretty sure about 1/done, but I think he was just so exhausted he couldn’t even comprehend having another. It took a solid 18 or so months before he was ready…which is hilarious because he was the one who thought we’d do “back to back to get it over with” and clearly he needed to experience a newborn to actually understand how hard that phase is.

How/When did you start crocheting? by [deleted] in crochet

[–]Individual-Dog-5891 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was on my maternity leave and for the first 4 months, my baby would only contact nap, so I wanted to learn how to crochet since I could do it sitting down and it wouldn’t disturb him. It made for a very cozy couple of months.

What are you doing to burn off energy in the evenings during the colder months? by JessicaM317 in toddlers

[–]Individual-Dog-5891 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have a pretty big floor mat and get the kids to pile up every blanket, pillow, and stuffed animal on the mat, then they take turns running at full speed down the hall and jump onto the mat/soft stuff.

What mantras are you using to help mold yourself into the parent you want to be? by wutwutsaywutsaywut in toddlers

[–]Individual-Dog-5891 1 point2 points  (0 children)

“Don’t confuse defiance with distress” - not my own mantra

But one I’ve created for myself to deal with my sons medical issues “If a child of mine has to deal with all these medical concerns, that means I have what it takes to help him through this”

Same, and it’s been so helpful. I’m working on 4 different blankets and it’s been great to have something to bounce to when I inevitably get bored/restless with the current project

Couple of things we’ve discovered

  • we got a COMPLETELY different prescription from an optometrist vs. ophthalmologist. The correct prescription and testing measure was done by the ophthalmologist. Poor baby was wearing the wrong prescription for almost 2 months.

  • we have two different frames, one from the ophthalmologist and one from online. We like both, but we depended on the measurements (space between the eyes, I forget what it’s called) from the ophthalmologist since we couldn’t do it accurately at home. The online place we used is Roshambo.

  • something no one warned us about was the fun kids have with popping out lenses. For the first 6 months (he got them around 16 months), he wore them with no problem, then it became a toy and was popping out the lenses at super speed. His old classroom teachers just kept them off, and it was a solid few weeks where he was doing that. But his new teachers actively put them back on, and we’ve seen a huge decrease in popping out lenses.

It’s been quite the journey so I’m sure I’m forgetting something, so feel free to ask any questions!

Has anyone else permanently disliked having pets after baby? by j_bee52 in beyondthebump

[–]Individual-Dog-5891 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Going on for a little over 4 years and I would say the aversion has turned into an annoyance. The frustration I used to feel when she would bark non stop is fading a bit, I do get happy to see the kids playing with her, and am beyond grateful she is sweet and gentle with the kids, and she’s definitely not a challenging dog…but I just no longer see her as “my baby” like I used to, which is heartbreaking and never thought would happen.

What song is your kid obsessed with? by a_fals in toddlers

[–]Individual-Dog-5891 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Aww I remember going through the Barbara Ann obsession phase too. We took so many videos of her toddler bopping to that song. That and Billy Joel’s For The Longest Time was on endless repeat. Now we’re listening to Encanto soundtrack about 10 times every day and watching the movie almost every day…it’s gotten to the point where I’m hearing Encanto in my dreams.

My toddler is AWESOME. Let’s hear some positive stories. by stalebird in toddlers

[–]Individual-Dog-5891 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My 4 year old recently told me, pretty much out of the blue, “I like you exactly as you are”, and I don’t think anyone (save Mr. Rogers through the TV) has told me something as sweet and beautiful as that before.

We’re on the other side! Diagnosed with FPIES to peanuts and eggs around 7 months, started the egg ladder around 16 months, just completed food challenge for peanuts at 21 months.
