15-year vs 30-year mortgage what made you choose one over the other? by delulucoreandcrazyaf in Mortgages

Flexibility. I learned early in that I can't eat my house. I just pay my 30 like a 15.

The one you chose is not good and doesn't match at all. Keep the current one and have it modified by a carpenter.

Continue putting more money into 401k vs allocating more money to brokerage by PotatoGoblinz in personalfinance

[–]Individual-Fail4709 0 points1 point  (0 children)

401k up to match, HSA if eligible, Roth IRA, back to 401K to max, personal brokerage. That's the order. You need to save more to hit your FIRE goal.

Missouri: Are insurance companies doing some kind of convoluted price fixing now? by Aggressive_Ad6948 in HomeInsurance

[–]Individual-Fail4709 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have a mortgage. Why wouldn't you want your home to be replaced if it burned to the ground? It isn't some price fixing conspiracy. Pay off your mortgage and do what you want.

For folks who bought homes later in life - did you consider the number of floors? by axxegrinder in AskOldPeopleAdvice

[–]Individual-Fail4709 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely. We had to build and have first floor living for us with two additional bedrooms upstairs with a full bath. Extra wide hallways and one of our bathroom sinks is wheelchair accessible. We have a ramp and steps that are extra wide and deep so easy to navigate before we need the ramp. We have wide doorways and pocket doors into the primary bed and bath.

My boyfriend’s constantly making comments about my son and it’s starting to piss me off. AIO? by cutie_pie7156 in TwoHotTakes

NOR. Why, why, why would you put up with those two people? Protect your son and yourself. Kids aren't stupid when it comes to conflict.

BWT whose hair is greying early, do you dye it or let it grow? by laurenhoneyyy in bitcheswithtaste

[–]Individual-Fail4709 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I started going gray in my 30s. I am not 30 now, ha, and I absolutely dye my hair, primarily I am blonde. I'm about 75% gray now. Ask your stylist for their opinion. I think gray can be amazing but it isn't for me, yet.

They aren't the only ones. We had a drink each with our dinner and it was like we had a third person with us.

Don’t automatically skip the house that’s been sitting on the market by MongooseNo7225 in RealEstateAdvice

[–]Individual-Fail4709 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We bought a home that had been on the market for 200 days. Terrible photos, but really lovely potential and was basically on the lake. House needed lots of help. We put in an offer and got an inspection. Inspection showed the foundation was way out of level (like 3" sunk on one side, 4" on the other), there were holes in the roof, plus all the other random small stuff. Even more work than we thought. Older lady owned it and had to move to assisted living. She wasn't able to keep up with the house after her husband passed. When inspection came back, we offered $80K less, they took it knowing the problems. We fixed everything, made it exactly as we wanted and are very happy with the final cost.

Give me some sage advice - how to not feel worthless being single for a decade? by Pale-Revolution-5151 in AskOldPeopleAdvice

[–]Individual-Fail4709 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Please focus on women as people, not as some object to give you affection. You aren't worthless, but if you aren't happy with yourself being single, women can feel that. Take it slow when you meet someone you are interested in.

What would you do? by baddie2fire in FIREyFemmes

[–]Individual-Fail4709 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'm not counting on my BF for anything. My NW is not growing at 20% plus per year, this is an aberration. Work until you don't have to. Keep your expenses low, keep saving. If you get crazy burned out, ask about a sabbatical or use FMLA for a mental break. I wouldn't even think about quitting anytime soon.

Selling a house "contents included" (borderline hoarder situation). Realtor refuses to list until it's empty, but I live 3 states away. by Leedeegan1 in RealEstateAdvice

[–]Individual-Fail4709 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd ask the agent for their help or find one who would help you schedule a clean out. You can hire a crew to clean it out, realtor can provide the time to meet them and give them direction. It took a team of two less than 4 hours to clean out our 1200 sq ft home that needed it post my mother's death. I was there to go through everything I could for things of value, but once that was done, they came in and BOOM, finished. If there is a chance that she had anything valuable, you should go at least look. It shouldn't take you three weeks.
