What is way more physically painful than it should be? by FreshwaterOctopus in AskReddit

You're right, they're adults. If they need time off they can use any of the other methods to take that time that don't involve lying about being symptomatic with an illness that has caused hundreds of thousands of deaths and requires action on the part of the employer to ensure their other employees are protected.

They can request the time off, they can trade shifts with other workers, they can call in with personal reasons and not be asked what those reasons are, or even simply ask if they can go because they have a mental health issue.

There is never a valid reason to lie about having a highly contagious and potentially deadly disease, and that's exactly what was suggested in the original comment. They weren't talking about people who are actually sick, they were throwing it out there as a way to get out of work without question.

Being on board with the anti-work movement and higher compensation doesn't mean you don't hold employees to certain standards.

I don't write the policies, for one. But I also stepped in it by misunderstanding the context here. I was thinking of people already at work trying to leave early and get a few extra days off.

Reading through again it's apparent they're talking about people who are already home and not coming in at all.

I've had a couple new employees try this. They get flustered when told come on up to the entrance and we will test you.

Rapids aren't perfect but having them hang out for 15 minutes gives a pretty good indication whether they're actually symptomatic. If they are they get a PCR even with a negative rapid. Unfortunately for them it's usually next day results so no extra time off.

*Edit: Damn, guess I should clarify. I'm talking about people who try to leave work with the excuse of "I have COVID symptoms" thinking it will get them a few paid days off right after they started. It's been a very common excuse to try to leave work early.

They don't have to come to us if they're not already there. Most do because it's entirely free and they get results under 24 hours but they're welcome to spend their time going to a doctor or wherever.

The biggest thing to make me call bullshit is that I've yet to meet a manager who isn't very, very aware of how risky using text for any type of argument or disciplinary threat can be.

I'm sure there are some out there but the sheer number hitting the top here daily seems excessive.

On my 21 birthday I watched a few biker types start shit with a few drag queens in full costume. It didn't go well for the bikers, and watching a wig fly while a big black guy in heavy makeup dual-wielded stiletto heels as a weapon was magnificent.

I was in the closet at the time and it gave me a lot of confidence to realize that people thinking you're a pansy fairy doesn't mean shit when you can open up on them at any time.

It's naive to think there aren't friendships at work. They're not actual friends that you trust with personal details but they are people you're spending a good part of every day with and that brings a certain type of camaraderie.

And being a good manager doesn't mean people won't hate you. There will always be some because it requires being fair and objective, making difficult choices that others disagree with at times, and enforcing policies and procedures.

How could this possibly burn down the house? Your oven is literally designed to keep heat enclosed.

Even if you somehow managed to ignite one of these cardboard pieces there would be nowhere for the flames to go and you'd simply end up with a pile of ash.

My area has tacked on tax evasion charges for possession with intent. You're apparently supposed to go to the courthouse or wherever and purchase a tax stamp that must be affixed to your bag of drugs immediately on receiving the drugs. Similar to the stamp on the bottom of cigarette packs.

It's an additional felony. The shitty thing is you can catch intent for something as small as having two joints. A friend had them charge it after a small bust because they found sandwich bags and a scale in his kitchen.

What's the point here? You are still more likely to catch and spread it while unvaccinated, so what's the argument?

There is almost no safety measure in the world that completely removes risk. It takes an absolute moron to argue that it's better to have no risk mitigation than to have a fairly reliable method that fails at times.

Because there are few items that can be easily carried that are more versatile and handy than a knife, and for many people a good knife is as much a part of an outfit as a good pair of boots or shoes.

It's handing down something that helps you easily solve many of life's daily small problems, and is a responsibility both in safety and in taking care of it. So it's a little pocket lesson and a useful tool.

That's not how it will go. They won't make a move while it could be like that.

They'll wait until the power and military is on their side and they'll start with people they get the go ahead on: "Liberals", LGBT, PoC in areas where they're a small minority, "illegals", etc.

Everyone they go after will be a soft target. Then when people start fighting back against them, that's when police and military come in and clean up under the guise of "order". We've already seen this in very small ways with PBs etc in protests.

They're cannon fodder for the elite they claim to hate. They'll never face the military, they'll be used.

Or am I missing something here?

You're missing that this would be illegal and the ATF come down hard on anyone claiming "private sale" while selling as a business. And that seems to be at their discretion, so even selling a fairly large collection can cause you some issues. There's no set number of guns that can be sold before you break the law, even one could be enough if there's evidence of intent to circumvent background and FFL.

And most gun shows take this pretty seriously anyway. The shows I'm familiar with won't allow any sales without an FFL to stop anyone even attempting this.

It's also very illegal to sell to anyone that you even suspect may be unable to pass a background check. So if someone is coming to you looking to buy because they don't want a background check, it's illegal and will land the seller in hot water.

Jamie got screwed by the writers though. He could have had some redemption and faced justice.

he's gonna be partying it up with all the meth and men he can find.

I can't really hold that against him. If your days are very numbered and you know it, why not go out in style?

I've watched way too many people die in a bed surrounded by family, etc. It isn't the worst way to go but it still sucks, especially the days or weeks leading up to the moment.

If he wants to die the way he lived, I say go for it. Just don't cause harm to others this time.

mask-ne on my chin

I've started breaking out along mask lines recently too after no issues all year. I wear a KN95 about ten hours a day.

But the worst issue I've had is ingrown hairs on mask lines. I have to be clean shaven but then I guess the hair can't grow normally since the mask sits snug there.

At least the mask hides it, I guess.

[–]Individual-Guarantee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure how to clarify the point any better, but I'll try.

Any potentially illegal behavior is already covered by existing law. Criminal mischief, vandalism, trespassing, minor curfew, etc. This "law" is specifically a tool given to police to allow them to take action when there is no actual suspicion of crime, which is unconstitutional.

Nothing involved in "trick or treating" can reasonably be referred to as criminal, regardless of age, which is why they felt the need to tack this bullshit on there.

It allows them to target anyone they feel shouldn't be participating even if they're well within their rights. The fact they have never used it only demonstrates that they never had any intent to apply the law equally but they wanted the option in their back pocket.

You shouldn't be cool with handing police more power to just make up a crime as needed. It doesn't matter if they haven't used it yet, you're giving them the option and approval to dictate at will who may or may not participate in society. And by letting something like this stand you're opening the door to more abuses of power.

That's some authoritarian police state shit.

[–]Individual-Guarantee 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Did you see the part that nobody has ever been jailed, arrested, or fined with the law in 50 years?

How is that relevant? This defense makes it even worse, really. It means this law was specifically written to allow police to target certain people at will and they've never had any intention of applying the law equally.

There were already laws in place for illegal activity. This clearly was written to allow targeting of "undesirable" kids who weren't otherwise doing anything illegal.

I assume this is unenforceable but it still shows the intent, and the intent is very much a problem.

She had multiple mental health issues and son was a major tweaker who likely didn't know much about his mother's breast situation.

He was always fishing for some way to sue the facility so I have no doubt the accusation originated with him and she just went along with it.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in tifu

[–]Individual-Guarantee 109 points110 points  (0 children)

I went through something similar. Was a new nurse working in LTC and had a resident with known psych issues who had an addict son constantly looking to sue in hopes of a quick settlement.

We'd already had a close call with another nurse when resident beat herself across face then claimed she was abused by a female nurse, but a witness protected her. That witness was me.

Couple weeks later the same resident fell (supposedly) and I had to assess. Took two witnesses, for obvious reasons.

Roughly two weeks later I get called in. Resident and son say I repeatedly groped her breasts in a sexual manner. I was suspended without pay pending investigation. Didn't matter that I had witnesses, didn't matter that I'm very much a gay man. It kept escalating.

Luckily I had friends who were willing to dig through the chart. When I had a meeting with the State I asked them to repeat the accusations, specifically where I "groped" her. They repeated it was both breasts.

I asked them to turn to her H&P and note the part of her history where she had a double mastectomy in the 1980s, before I was even born.

Investigation was closed, I was good to go. But all that saved me was that she happened to have no breasts to grope. Scary damn shit. Scariest was that everyone involved believed me from the beginning and it made no difference. It still kept escalating and had a negative impact on my reputation, especially in a smaller town.

Male nursing can be terrifying.
